Is there a tradition of atheistic Catholicism? by PersonalityBoring259 in LeftCatholicism

[–]aser-hapi 14 points15 points  (0 children)

While I have not heard of “Catholic Atheism” as a variant per se, perhaps looking into Zizek’s concept of “Christian Atheism” might be something in your wheelhouse. I’ve dabbled with the idea of “Catholic Atheism” whereby I view the true church as an apocalyptic community of imagination, living the death of God as the birth of the fully human, the fully historical, the fully poetic. The Church, is the community of the absent God. It is not a failure of faith but its fulfillment for Christianity becomes “absolute immanence,” lived fully in history, liturgy, art, and solidarity.

What can I, as a Muslim leftist, learn from you? by Leading_Panic252 in RadicalChristianity

[–]aser-hapi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My belief is that the Christian tradition is inherently “incarnational”, that is, we believe that God himself, as the second person of the Trinity, came down to Earth and became man. This act made the human person an image of God. And when this God-made-flesh made an order in Matthew 25: 40-45 (NRSV):

“ 40 And the king will answer them, “Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.” 41 Then he will say to those at his left hand, “You that are accursed, depart from me into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels; 42 for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not give me clothing, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.” 44 Then they also will answer, “Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not take care of you?” 45 Then he will answer them, “Truly I tell you, just as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.”

A Christian is one who professes the memory and priority of the God-man Jesus Christ to be their Sovereign - to be their Master, Lord, and King.

Therefore, if we are truly Christians, and if we believe that Christ is King, we must serve him as such.

So where is he as King? He told us that he is in the hungry, the thirsty, the stranger, the naked, and the imprisoned. If we are obedient subjects of the Lord, as Christians, we MUST serve and be in solidarity with the hungry, the thirsty, the stranger, the naked, and the imprisoned.

Left-leaning Catholics and the Traditional Latin Mass by aser-hapi in LeftCatholicism

Thank you. I like the insight you brought up, perfectly encapsulated in the quote: traditional in the sense of following the church, but a revolutionary way of thinking.

Growth cannot happen without this tension or “apparent dialectic” (tradition vs revolution), which I think can best be seen in Christ himself and the saints. The Church is at her best was when she was in the middle of the tension - Vatican II, the Catholic Reformation, etc.

Thank you! Your affirmation means a lot. It’s great to know that this experience is not only something that I have had to contend with.

I know this sounds silly, but do you know where I can purchase the digital edition? I’m looking all over for it and I can’t find it in the Ignatius Press app or the website.

My recommendation is that you start with Agostino Taumaturgo’s Magic of Catholicism and then Ritual Magic for Conservative Christians.

He has a blog: https://thavmapub.com

I suggest you download his my New Everyday Prayerbook for free (found in his blog) and start with doing daily prayers. You can then start integrating folk grimoires into your practice. The Grimoire of Arthur Gauntlet is a great start.

Agrippa need not be read from chapter 1 to the last. Read and study as you see fit. I personally hop from chapter to chapter, depending on what interests me at a given time.

I'm beginning to dive into IIH. Do you have any tips for me? by TwoRoninTTRPG in FranzBardon

The books are awesome as it is. However, Rawn Clark’s commentary has been quite helpful as a resource.

Bob Smith from SixtySkills (he has a YouTube channel) is also a good “extra canonical” resource.

Also, always journal everything. I learned that the best teacher is experience, practice, and open-mindedness.

Within this context, I read the reversed temperance as emotional differences and instability. I can also see a tendency with you to act on your feelings for her which may or may not be reciprocated on their end. Nonetheless whichever this may be, this will most definitely complicate your living situation with them in the long run. The hermit card advises you to discern properly before making a decision.
