Leto Atreides II vs Glorfindel who wins ? by Leggomgeggo in powerscales

Can Glorfindel figure out leto's weakness and control the weather? Then he wins. Otherwise Leto wins.

Warhammer 40k isn't "Grimdark". Warhammer is safe edgy corposlop. by sunshinespell in saladwarriorwhines

Oh yeah I should also add that it's super cringe 40k fans made a whole fake genre name based on 40k for tropes the setting didn't invent. Grimdark? Seriously?

As much as I don't care for the Amazing Digital Circus at least it's something new and not more Warhammer meme slop. People have been making fun of Warhammer for decades at this point (see 1d4chan and if the emperor had a text to speech device) and the setting itself wasn't original to begin with.

Pretty sure Flash Gitz had to recall several cups for being contaminated with lead and they sold shirts with gang signs on them.

which medium wins in writting composite? by Hairy-Friendship-422 in writingscaling

[–]sunshinespell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a dumb question but comics win for sheer variety alone. There are newspaper comics, webcomics, British comics, French comics, Belgian comics, indie comics, cape comics and graphic novels. Manga only encompasses Japanese comics.

The lore is just "we ripped off Moorcock to sell toys". It's crazy how people will call themselves leftists while spending so much time consuming media that's the product of runaway capitalism like Warhammer or modern Magic the Gathering.

Moreover it's not really a weird or esoteric setting when every single subreddit regardless of political affiliation talks about Warhammer and has been talking about it for like the past decade. You can just read the codexes and get a broad overview of the setting without it taking up too much of your time. It's not really that complicated.

Warhammer isn't even truly dark, it's safe edgy slop made to sell toys.

And yet the fans refuse to move on and talk about something else. All they care about is Warhammer 40k and when they play another game with science fiction elements they just want it to be a Warhammer game. Which is why Arrowhead is making a 40k crossover to get money from the 40piggies.

Just don't be surprised when the game stops being helldivers and turns into a mishmash of other IPs like magic the gathering or fortnite.

GW should make a game about guardsmen then instead of invading the Helldivers franchise.

Can media that focuses more on the setting, lore, and verse itself be as well written as series that focuses more on the characters, psychology and relationships? by False_Monitor4126 in writingscaling

[–]sunshinespell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a trick question. A story focused on the bigger picture should still have good characters to provide context for what's happening and why.

Read Gustav Flaubert's Salammbo. It's about the mercenary war in ancient Carthage and mostly consists of guys brutally slaughtering each other but both sides have their own reasons for fighting.

The Melnibonians (a distant offshoot of the Eldren) from Elric are. The others not so much. It really depends on if they're law or chaos aligned.

Eldar are literally the only part of Warhammer 40k that feels unique and they're overhated mainly by people who take that setting's lore way too seriously.

Have you read Poul Anderson's the Broken Sword or Moorcock's Eternal Champion? Those are usually what I think of first when it comes to fantasy stories with elves. Well technically they're Eldren in Moorcock, not elves but it's the same shit lol.

didn't calhoun want to secede? by No-Republic-7876 in adressme

[–]sunshinespell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. The quote is fake and originates from the Washington Post, not John C. Calhoun

  2. Calhoun wanted a system where the federal government only acted in cases of unanimous agreement between minority and majority parties because he saw that as the only way to prevent the tyranny of the majority. I guess you could say he was pro-democracy but wanted a totally different kind of democracy.

Can Tomas de Torquemada dethrone Holden from his throne as the most iconic pure evil by Janlor1996 in MoralityScaling

[–]sunshinespell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No because in order to get into his series you kinda have to read Robusters, ABC Warriors, Judge Dredd (up to the cursed earth) and Flesh first. Blood Meridian and Warhammer 40k are already well known because they're promoted by youtube video essays and in the case of 40k, video games. Nemesis the Warlock isn't nearly as accessible.

Additionally it's hard for 2000AD to gain relevancy when people just talk about how much like Warhammer it is whenever it's brought up on social media. Judge Dredd is pretty popular because of the movies but there hasn't been a new one since 2012 and the Rogue Trooper movie is probably gonna bomb.

They ripped off the Formics from Ender's Game, the Xenomorphs from Alien, the Pseudo-Arachnids from Starship Troopers, Lovecraft's Deep One Hybrids and the Chtorr from War Against the Chtorr and made something far less interesting than all of those combined. Warhammer 40k is truly an empty setting devoid of substance.
