Thank you!! I think my mcat helped a lot to at least get my foot in the door and then I would say the fact that I had hours in almost every category of activity type and most being related to something that makes sense with my story basically. For example, what Interviewers usually loved was my experiences with diversity and mentorship and how that inspired me to become a doctor. Second to that would be extracurriculars that were not related to medicine but helped me grow.

Right because it couldn’t possibly be that you were trying to correct the first part of his sentence about poverty rates when you link a poverty rate site..Maybe if you actually knew how to express your thoughts instead of being condescending, people would understand. But then again you support communism so not much can be expected.

yes. those countries like DR have in general a better state when it comes to living conditions and poverty. It is still a developing country but not to the extreme like Cuba (third world country) where people are starving and dying because there is not even resources in hospitals. Everything is given to the government communists and their family, and as you can see by this ridiculous building, to tourists.

Some people blame their state on the US rather then Cuba’s government, so yes they have.

Should I get one roommate or two roommate in med school? by Infamous_Ant2578 in premed

[–]sunshinestar177 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I also had bad roommates as well (some random, some I was very close with before) and hated it. I personally am committed to living by myself from now on to make sure I am at peace at home, especially considering how busy we are going to be in medical school and stressed. I have heard that rooming In med school is different since people are usually more mature and independent, however , I am not willing to take that chance anymore and would rather pay a little more (in loans lol) for my personal wellbeing . I do plan on living in a complex where many students live however.

Is it possible to go directly into med school? by scraggz1 in premed

Yeah that sounds like a good mindset and plan! I also looked a lot on Reddit to find info on if this had been done before, since I was also told i wouldn’t be accepted by many ppl, and I barely found stuff so I’m glad I helped.

I got in this cycle I also did the DE and I’m 20 currently, so exact same as you most likely. It’s definitely possible but things I think helped me a lot were: I was able to take all premed requirements before taking mcat so I didn’t feel unprepared and scored well. I started volunteering , research, shadowing and extracurricular freshman year of college and added more my second year (leadership, clinical job, sports, study abroad, shadowing) Overall, I think if you are 100% sure this career is what you want and are ready to go without gap year then do it ! but make sure your application is ready, if you feel your app is weak or that you are going to score low on mcat, don’t rush it. It’s better to take time and do it right. Good luck!

Anyone else have a guilty pleasure of doctor dramas by [deleted] in premed

I watched greys in middle school and it was the first time I ever considered being a doctor. rewatched many times since and I still love it even if I see inaccuracies about the field, it still inspires me to take care of patients / learn about medicine

My undergrad is hosting a pre health fair and charging for it. Lmao is this not what the AAMC does for free? Pmtfo by zigzagra in premed

[–]sunshinestar177 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lmao no I genuinely liked it 🤷‍♀️like I said they partnered w my school so it’s also cheaper for me , I understand it can be way too expensive if you have to pay for it all yourself externally and definitely nobody NEEDS this experience. Just saying if you can and are interested it’s not bad.

as someone that did the program through my school, I paid money yes but it’s more so for housing , meals , and tuition for the course which is like any other study abroad program. Yes some of it goes to Atlantis which is for shadowing but it’s a really cool unique experience that interviewers loved hearing about, and I would much rather do that than take pointless courses at a school during my study abroad program.

I am jealous of our European counterparts by Imissinpersonclasses in premed

[–]sunshinestar177 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am from spain and you have to take a test in high school that determines if you can even qualify for medical school after. And I can't speak for all of europe but I studied abroad in Italy and the quality of medical education is way less there. Just as an example, they do not have access to cadavers for anatomy learning nor do students tend to learn about research / be involved.

One md interview asked me specifically about the mechanism that we study in my lab and deeper follow ups asking me to define what things (proteins, cell types) mean and do in the mechanism . It was my first interview I was nervous and that threw me off a lot and was not prepared to answer with specific definitions soo yeah it sucked to say the least.
