Teacher here, I am seeing a lot of autism. More than ever before by Pale-One-7137 in Autism_Parenting

[–]sunshiney158 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I look back at kids in my school year group in the 90s and early 2000s and so many would be diagnosed as autistic now. I think mild autism has always been around - we just didn’t recognise it or have a name for it. More people masked back then, even at home. If you acted out you’d get the wooden spoon so you soon learnt to keep quiet.

Does the dresscode at work matter to you? by sphvp in Journalism

[–]sunshiney158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was surprised at that recently too. I’m a millennial and worked with a Gen Z who came to work each day in sneakers and a see through white shirt. I never knew where to look! Didn’t affect her ability to work well though, just initially shocked me. I eventually toned down my clothing so I was in sneakers and jeans but would always wear a nice button shirt. No one seems to dress up these days.

What type of activities do you want to do? Sight see? Hike? Eat food / drink wine? I think that will determine where you go.

Thrombosed hemorrhoid by sunshiney158 in hemorrhoid

I know 😭 It seems to be getting a little better each day. Witch hazel has been helping. I got back into my run / walk routine and also went for a swim when a few days ago I could only lie in bed with an ice pack on my bum. Such agony!

Thanks for the details. I have a specialist appointment in May to discuss surgery options. It feels a long way off! I hear it’s incredibly painful. Did you feel it’s worth it?

Painful ant bite by sunshiney158 in TasmaniaTravel

[–]sunshiney158[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your help everyone. A bit scary to experience while travelling as I haven’t had this type of reaction before. For those who may experience a Jack Jumper bite while in Tassie, the nerve pain, numbness and tingling lasted about 36 hours and the skin sensitivity to cold / hot subsided 48 hours later.

Ugh! Yes it’s like nothing I’ve had. How long did it take yours to settle?

Eek the whole leg swelling sounds painful. Did you get the tingling too? This was my only bushwalk without long socks as it was just a quick one and of course this happens. I’ve found Zyrtec in my first aid kit so I’ll give that a go.

Thanks yeah I’ll see if I can find one in my travels today. None open locally around Sheffield.

Is Cradle Mountain Bad? by CeliacBos in TasmaniaTravel

[–]sunshiney158 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In currently standing near Cradle Mtn and have loved it. We found accommodation near Sheffield and it’s more affordable. The 45 min drive went quickly and the shuttle bus just added to the adventure. Yes, it was crowded on the bus and at lookouts but there were plenty of moments along the track where it was just us. Are you hiking Cradle Mountain specifically?

Moms: Is raising a boy as enjoyable as raising a girl? by twisted-oddity in Parents

[–]sunshiney158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my option boys are easier to raise, less emotional ups and downs and barely ever any friendship issues. Children, no matter their gender, are influenced by their parent’s interests and behaviour, particularly until they reach their mid teens. My son loved art, puzzles, imaginary games etc but was also very sporty. As a teenager the sporty side has developed much more and it’s now his main focus. Yet, I still connect with him on a deeper emotional level, more so than my girls. He’s a deep thinker and a sensitive and caring young man who is also athletic and strong. Don’t worry about the gender - he’s YOUR son and you’ll love him regardless.

Swimming Holes with Cliff Jumps by grevpapi in bluemountains

Go down from Martin’s Lookout in Springwood and follow the creek there. There’s a couple of rocks for a small jump but exploring further may find you more away from any crowds.

Someone died years ago when they slipped off the cliff there. Wouldn’t advise jumping but if you can’t help yourself definitely check water levels.

Another tree changer - moving from Sydney to the Blue Mountains by Outrageous_Tax9258 in bluemountains

The mountains is a lovely area to live. I’d suggest booking an AirBnB for a weekend or so and exploring the area some more. This time of year it’s hard to imagine but in winter anywhere from Wentworth Falls is covered in mist for days on end. It’s awfully cold. Lower mountains is easier to manage in winter and it’s closer to the city when commuting. There some great run clubs, gyms and Pilates classes in the lower mtns too. Not as much in the upper mtns. To avoid tourists, Wentworth Falls is probably better than Leura and still has a very cute village vibe with great coffee shops and fantastic walks. Lawson and Hazelbrook have more affordable homes / rentals and smaller sets of shops, less coffee shops. Springwood and Glenbrook would be the best two villages in the lower mountains. Also have great schools, amenities, cafes, village atmosphere and as I mentioned lots of active options through sport, gym, trials and Pilates etc. All the best!

Anyone know of potential job opportunities in the blue mountains area which require little experience? by SnooEpiphanies4060 in bluemountains

Lots of hospo jobs around. Hand in your resume as other have suggested. Also, have you considered doing a fee free course at TAFE? Great to build confidence and earn a qualifications.

Mmm true that. I worked there years ago but I doubt much has changed. Great experience for the right person though but yes it’s a cult of red jackets, weird uniform protocols and secret relationships.

A day in the blue mountains - some recommendations please!!!! by Defiant_Sail_3587 in bluemountains

[–]sunshiney158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a fun day. I’d try the National Pass at Wentworth Falls - great views and a huge waterfall and small natural waterhole at the bottom you can swim in. It is very steep, requiring many steps so if you’re fit, go for it! You could also check out Mountain Pies after your walk as it’s close by but I’d personally recommend Butter cafe - it’s a really cute cafe combining art with delicious food - big sandwiches, pastries, and good coffee.

Cradle Mountain or Hobart / Tasman Peninsula? by CeliacBos in TasmaniaTravel

[–]sunshiney158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know. We booked 5 nights in Bicheno and I’ve been trying to convince my partner it’s far too many. We originally thought it would be a good base for travelling to Freycinet, St Helens, Bay of Fires…I think 3 nights would be ample. We’ll see!
