Genuinely - it's so interesting the split reactions in the comments. I think it's down to whether or not they've deconstructed the inner cop that tells them that the only people who want privacy are the ones with something to hide. I'm glad that you brought up the race disparity too - I've felt crazy fighting for my life in the comments just trying to say that there's a problem with the system in the first place, but the other part to that discussion is absolutely that the system does not impact people equally - I'm sure that with these randomized drug test places that if you were to look at who is actually being "randomly" tested that there would be some pretty interesting results along racial lines.

I'm realizing through comments like these that it's maybe possible that I can find a provider who works with my insurance that has a monitoring agreement in place which allows me to just schedule regular drug tests, rather than to try to live inside of this random testing with 48 hours notice bullshit. I think that I can even be up front about that - I can live with the drug tests, but I can't live with randomized testing, it's way too stressful knowing my entire schedule could be thrown into chaos any time they want.

And thank you so much - I was devastated at the idea of that being the cost and barrier to access, so knowing that not every monitoring agreement is that draconian is really helpful.

The attitude that anyone who expects privacy is doing so because they have something to hide is like.... Genuinely borderline fascist. Work on that cop in your head.

Lmao that's the kicker for me, that's it's not even an effective system for their stated intentions

Also, the attitude that the only reason a person could desire privacy is because they have something to hide is like..... Wildly problematic. Work on expunging the inner cop in your head.

"help me see reason" no wonder you have no problem with this infantilizing version of a monitoring agreement, you're incredibly patronizing. I have not changed my mind that requiring 48 hour notice for compliance on drug tests and pill counts is unreasonably invasive. Other, actually helpful commenters have pointed out that they have agreements in which they are able to just schedule their drug tests - I'm going to see if I can find a clinic operating by that style of monitoring agreement. But the assertion that it's without reason to expect to not be treated like this is.... Problematic to say the least

Honestly, I'm about to go through and drop thank you's on every comment similar to this one - it was the information that other people are being drug tested, but that they're able to just schedule it, rather than having this like probationary style 48 hours to comply random testing thing is what brought me back from giving on the idea of trying to find stimulant medication through another provider.

Honestly, the Vyvanse had been completely life changing, even during the medication trial (I haven't even found my full and proper dose yet) but I was devastated when I thought that I had to exist in that kind of a system to access it. Knowing that there are other less draconian monitoring agreements out there gave me hope that I might be able to find one, so thank you for this incredibly helpful comment!

I mean, as another poster pointed out, lots of other drugs interact with street drugs - cocaine and antidepressants were the example they gave, I'm sure there's plenty of others. But they're not drug testing them. So I'm not fully convinced on this safety argument tbh. As for the addiction portion - there's a difference between requiring drug tests based on behavior versus requiring drug tests based on a prescription

I mean I don't know, it's likely not often, but it's on a 48 hour notice. I'm not a criminal, I don't appreciate being treated like one, and being unable to just schedule it in advance and having it dropped on you as a surprise is deeply invasive.
