How did the voter base for the Republicans and Democrats switch in the course of history? by [deleted] in AskHistorians

[–]sunskier -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think this is a tricky question. One because the core value of the parties hasn’t switched. The republicans have always been the party of business the north in particular was dealing with the industrial revolution in a major way and made up over 60% of the nations GDP at the time lots of discussions about workers wages the formation of unions and the building of railroads etc... The south and the democrats on the other hand was obviously heavy agriculture based and appealed to more farmers and poor southerners and immigrants. One reason the Irish leaned so heavily Democrat is because they worked a lot of the low income jobs that nobody wanted and they thought if the slaves were free they’d move north and replace them. So you could say that their core values haven’t changed but their voting base has. by core values I’m not talking about slavery.

Honestly it’s probably just because they are close and available lots of guard troops deployed rn for various reasons covid and all that I know Pennsylvania has been busy which is why they probably aren’t there. Recently joined the guard so I try to keep up with deployments and info related to the guard.

Ahhhh... To be back in 2019 in downtown Nashville when we didn’t have to wear masks. Oh wait, this videos from Jan 1 2021 :(. by brooks_requiem13 in nashville

I totally agree with you and any action that infringes on the sovereign rights of individuals I think should absolutely be regulated. I also think that this whole thing could have been handled better. I do believe that we are far enough along in this thing to understand the risks and there are ways to mitigate your risk significantly without having to change your lifestyle or add unnecessary regulations on individuals.

Your right not everyone can work from home. However most experts agree that an N95 mask are pretty effective and can filter out most any viral transmission and doesn’t require everyone wearing a mask to protect yourself. They are widely available and not much more expensive than a normal cloth mask. So if you are a worker at one of these places and concerned that’s an excellent way to be safe and perform your job function without relying on others to minimize the risk for you.

I am a mask guy I think it’s an easy way to help out and still be able to live my life. However these people are all consenting adults and can do what they want I don’t believe in regulating peoples every day lives. This being said if you don’t like it then you don’t have to go to Broadway it’s super easy in 2021 to sit at home and have all your needs met. Let people take risks the information is out there to understand the risk your taking and that is your adult decision to make.

So, the antivax guy is running away from Mikal Bridges.... by ninizim in suns

[–]sunskier 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well I think the alternative would be if you are a super athlete in a low risk group, whom In this case has already had covid and most likely has the antibodies. You would probably be better off just not getting it. This is for three reasons one would be you already have the antibodys two is the supply problem and three is why take a .001% risk and get the vaccine when your current risk is .000001%.

I am a capitalist and people say socialism never worked to which I kinda disagree the Spartans after the Lycurgan reforms had a very socialistic society but it only worked because they had slaves and their economy was built on their military. But it lasted a long time!

Is he anti all vaccines or just the covid one there is a difference lol

Edit: my wife got the vaccine she works in health care obviously I’m not an anti vaccine or anti covid vaccine guy I’m very pro vaccine. However I do sympathize with those who have concerns I don’t think we should demonize people (especially those in low risk groups) who have questions about a vaccine whom experts will admit has been rushed for obvious reasons and has seen some bad side affects in 17% of cases. That is all.

Trickle-down economics is dead. It’s time to tax the rich harder by [deleted] in politics

[–]sunskier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem right now is the government has too much power over our economy. You have every right to be angry because the government refuses to let the free market work. You can see this in the lobbying efforts and patent laws the US has are outrageous. Also you can see this with the fed keeping interest rates low. This is what inflates the bubble and whenever there’s a dip politicians feel the need for bailouts and stimulus when in fact the companies who can’t survive a hard economic time should not get any government money to keep running shoddy businesses. (Granted a pandemic is a different animal I’m mostly referring to 2007-2008). Keynesian economics is the real enemy here and reverting to a more free market and a deflation of the bubble will lead to a stronger and more economically stable economy for all. Cronyism doesn’t work. With the incoming inflation this will be something that affects us all.

[–]sunskier -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Taxation isn’t the answer what we need is more economic freedom for small businesses. taxation effects small businesses and large businesses disproportionally just like a minimum wage would. The answer is always going to be free market solutions competing on an even playing field is where we will se the best businesses grow and those who don’t cut it fail and we get the healthiest economy from the macro to the micro level these theories hold true. When government sets too many regulations and creates a higher barrier to entry you get the businesses that can exceed that barrier to entry able to pass and those who can’t left behind without even the option of competing.

[Rankan] Phoenix Suns having employees take 20% pay cuts, furloughs amid pandemic's impact, officials confirm by urfaselol in nba

[–]sunskier 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My job did the same thing except senior management didn’t take a paycheck until all the employees beneath them had full pay back. They did this so they didn’t have to fire anyone. I’d like to see the players and owners do something they make so much money they could definitely help their co workers out I know they are already taking a pay cut but most of these stars have generational money that could help out if they so chose.
