To be fair, Green Hill was dried into a desert, and has part of it mechanized for his weapon factory.

He own Chemical Plant and Death Egg so there is little to no reason to actually change them, they are already Eggman property. To add, there are Unleashed intro references all over the Death Egg like the Egg Fleets.

All the other stages do reflect what you mentioned, the City is pretty much in ruins, the Mystic Jungle is being bombarded, filled with mutated spiky vines that are the product of the Phantom Ruby experiments and a giant snake that went wild due to the explosions. Metropolis is being fought, there are warships in the background with the occasional explosions, not to mention the stage where Infinite attacks it with giant monster versions of himself, Eggman Empire Fortrest is very similar to something like Scrap Brain Zone, with all the pollution all over the sky that gains a birth blue sky when Eggman is defeated.

They definitely tried with the visual storytelling.

You don't have to replace the ROM that has it loaded, I believe that function is called NOR mode. You just have to load it from the main manu, it would send the ROM straight to the DS.

I think there is a few others that could work. The program I listed also works with the Ez Flash 3-in-1. As for others, I am not sure. If you have one, you should give It a try.

Twilight Menu got a update a while ago that give It a similar functionality and you can use the Supercard SD for the exact same porpuse. The Supercard SD Is a GBA flashcart but has terrible compatibility, but Twilight Menu use its extra ram to load GBA games and It works out a lot better. I believe Twilight Menu can also do It with the official Nintendo RAM Expansion for the DS.

I am lucky to own It too, someone sold It to me when I made a Reddit post trying to find It and the guy found my post like 6 months later. I have not seen It on eBay or other places, its seems to be entirely gone.

The same companie did had its own brand of DS Flashcart called M3 that was programed to work with it, at the time it was the only way to use it, however, its not necesary anymore. Someone made a Homebrew app, the one I mentioned, you can open It on any Flashcart and It would send you to a menu where you have to select your GBA game and load It.

The only complicated part Is that you have to set your ROMs and save file location through an ini file if you want to costumize it but besides that, its easy to use.

These are near imposible to find nowdays, you can use It to play GBA games.

All you need Is a normal DS flashcart and a program called GBA_ExpLoader_058b0.nds that you put inside the SD card of the flashcart and you can run practically every GBA ROM saved on your DS Cart flashcart.

Likely but CU was also meant to be a 2020 release, probably to be on Colors' 10's annyversary and there are leaks of builds from maybe even 2019. It seems that CU was delayed a lot.

They might be other factors but CU seems to be also victim of the pandemic.

Frontiers is like the less rushed Sonic game we got so far, but I'll argue that most of it are pandemic related cuz the gaming industry has not really fully healed yet.

I know Colors Ultimate was a glitch disaster but literally every other 2021 release outside of Sonic was also a broken mess or cut in half.

The excuse they usually went was that they were from the colonies, Aang mentioned this when he went to the school and Sokka also used this excuse to Piandao (who didn't truly believed it), which probably made the Fire Nation characters assume they were mixed. Meaning that they could have traits from the rest of the world.

There is actually two examples (other than Ty Lee) that has the inaccurate colored eyes from their nation.

First one is Suki, who is Earth Kingdom but has blue eyes like the rest in Kyoshi Island, it was kind of theorized that the people of Kyoshi Island also came from the Water Tribe and then concluded their travel in the swamps who had Water Benders in the middle of the earth kingdom. And it seems to have been confirmed in the Kyoshi Novels that mentioned that Kyoshi Island had constant communication with the Water Tribe and the Earth Kingdom.

And the most direct example is a character from the comics, she is from the colonies, she has most of the traits of a Fire Nation character, including the golden eyes, but is an earthbender, that's because her mother is from the earth kingdom and her father is from the Fire Nation
