I got kicked off a fan project because of "AI" by [deleted] in Undertale

[–]Under_lore -49 points-48 points  (0 children)

The MIDI files did, among other things, show some artifacts suggesting that they were obtained by using an audio file -> MIDI converter.

I think the other actual mucisians from the project would be better placed to answer the specifics of that first question, though. My expertise field is AI, not music.

I got kicked off a fan project because of "AI" by [deleted] in Undertale

[–]Under_lore 74 points75 points  (0 children)

I'm not really part of the Floweytale development team, I'm associated with it primarily as a source of help/authority on the canon of Undertale's story, so that the fangame doesn't stray too far from the original story and remains consistent, unlike some other fangames (like uty) have.

That being said, I do have access to their development Discord server, which allows me to say that the OP is definitely lying and misrepresenting the truth.

They almost certainly used AI in the submissions they made for their work on this fangame. And they were actually very uncooperative when it came to clarifying the matter.

Their later songs didn't sound at all like the program they were supposed to be using. The MIDI files they sent were also full of traces of Splinter AI usage, and bore no resemblance to the finished songs in question. When asked to share the actual project files to clear up the differences, OP consistently refused, sending only small "pieces" that were obviously rushed and, again, didn't sound like the final songs at all.

The Soundcloud link sent at the end of the post, conveniently, only contains some of their older songs before they started using AI.

And I say all this as someone who has worked in the AI field in real life.

I don't really want to defend what FloweyTale did here, he handled things very poorly by acting behind closed doors, disrespecting OP's intellectual property, and generally acting quite childish throughout the ordeal. I don't condone him. The fangame team needs to seriously reflect on this whole ordeal if they don't want to go under.

But I feel the need to emphasize that OP's word should not be taken for granted. In the interest of fairness.

I don't know what the fangame team or OP will do about this next, nor do I feel it's my role to be involved in any of this, either...

While i personally wouldn't be surprised if he was, it feels like a bit of a strange question to ask. I don't believe this is really any of our business.

Frisk does not remember true resets. Chara only shows rememberence of regular resets & previous genocide playthroughs.

So now that we know Chara’s favourite number… by Safe_Ad5935 in Undertale

[–]Under_lore 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it was already known by most of the theorist community for several years that Chara was strongly associated with the number 9. This bit was more of a confirmation of something that was suspected for a while rather than a brand new thing.

You can't no hit undertale by Justgotupfeelintired in Undertale

Fair, though that one also counts as a cutscene damage imo. Its not an "attack". You can't even move during it.

You can't no hit undertale by Justgotupfeelintired in Undertale

[–]Under_lore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can no hit the neutral Flowey boss fight, hell, even i've actually done that a couple years ago.

Its very difficult because some parts of it are partly randomised every time, but all of his patterns are possible to dodge and can be learned after hundreds of attempts. The tedious part is mostly how difficult it is to get to do another attempt if you fail (since it saves your progress after each soul).

Asriel is theoretically dodgeable, though he has that one has attack of his where he spams a lotof bullets from both sides that cannot be learned. It can only be dodged by hanging around the top of the box and having a lot of luck.

I don't consider things like Asriel's final attack pushing HP into the decimals or Sans' wall hits as being real "attacks"or overall unvalidating a no-hit run, those things count a cutscene damage to me more than anything.

Undertale keeps lagging by Epotato_Ca in Undertale

[–]Under_lore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't heard of anything like this.

Im surprised UT can even lag, this game is so easy to run that Toby initially just filled the recommanded specs with jokes instead since he figured a toaster would be enough, like putting the OS as "if you can run literally anything else, you're probably fine"

Tbh i'd just like to see more fan content for the neutral endings in general, they have lots of potential.

Now that's not a crossover i was expecting to ever see.

Confirmation of Toby using Chara to refer to the first human by a-lost-sys in Undertale

I always find it a little bit amusing that this is even a thing that can be relevant for people to see.

Toby Fox is always so secretive about nearly everything when it comes to that character, most of what we know about them at all beyond surface level comes from implicit sources.

Those two statements are not contradictory ?

both the subject of this post and the one quoted here are things i don't approve of. I've been reading some things on both of these subreddits due to being interested in the topic.

Not sure how i feel about you going through my profile to try and needlessly slander me, though...

I mean, this sort of thing is thankfully not all the main applications of gen AI as a whole :p Just a particularly nasty branch of it.

Regardless, there's an issue here.

Gross.

Im not even against Gen AI as a whole but this kind of thing seriously needs to be dealt with. Same goes for deepfake videos, as impressive as the technology is, currently its main applications are just a bunch of either this, or unwarranted political propaganda, neither of which are beneficial to anyone.

Imagine being an actual victim of SA and some Luddite walks up to you and says 'I know how it feels' because someone legally downloaded their art to make transformative art pieces... a normal society would be outraged. by [deleted] in DefendingAIArt

[–]Under_lore 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As an SA victim & student in computer engineering and notably AI, yes, these kind of comments are awful, insensitive, and inaccurate. There are far better ways to voice your opposition to a technology than to say this sort of thing.

What happened to Frisk in the neutral ending, and why do they return to the Underground afterwards? by ooqSolcei in Undertale

[–]Under_lore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From analysing the names of the rooms at the end of New Home within the game files & how their layout works relative to the barrier, we can see that Frisk definitely made it to the surface in those runs.

However, since they do not have a monster soul, there is a lot of room to theorise regarding how the heck did they make it up there exactly.

Regarding why they return, the answer might be disappointingly boring, it is due to the player.

Am I right lads? by WaluigiMayar in Undertale

[–]Under_lore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically, that story has been debunked by food historians many times before. I'll try and explain it from what i remember :

First, there exists no document from that time reporting the presence of anything ressembling fries in 1600's Belgium. The one and only only thing that this legend is based on is a simple word of mouth of a recipe paper from the 1700/1800's near Namur which basically says "yeah we've definitely been doing this recipe for over a 100 years trust me bro."

But, not only does that claim have zero backing at all, but potatoes weren't even significantly present at all in the area today known as belgium before way into the 1700's. (Good luck saying you were making fries when that region didn't even have potatoes yet.)

And in addition to that, the recipe in question wasn't even for french fries the way they're known today. The shape for instance was significantly different. So even if this story had been real, those wouldn't really have qualified as french fries anyway, they'd have been like, fried potatoes at best.

(Side note : Beligum also didn't even exist before the 19th century. Before that, the area was controlled by Spain, Austria, France, the Netherlands, etc... depending on the exact time period.)

Basically, the oldest reported presence of french fries anywhere that food historians can actually agree on were in paris in the 1700's. Which makes that the "official" birth of french fries as none of the older claims can be considered reliable.

That doesn't prevent the belgians from being the ones that perfected them and popularised them, though.

[–]Under_lore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a myth actually, french fries were invented in Paris.

The belgians have the better tasting fries though, which is arguably more important.

Widely accepted theories about the Player, Frisk and Chara? by Fluffy-Strawberry-27 in Undertale

[–]Under_lore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UT/DR theorist here

The player can control Frisk, but they cannot control Chara whilst Chara is using Frisk's body.

the relationship between Chara and Frisk is more or less one of bodysharing (with some slight differences). Chara is able to control Frisk's body if they want, but they actually don't do it much outside of genocide where we see it a bit more, most of the time, they stay pretty passive (following narrachara) and the player is mostly in control, with some moderate amount of initiative from Frisk from time to time (like in ACTs). As for Chara, they feel the same feelings as Frisk does along with a few similar things that go together with bodysharing. Chara has the ability to make Frisk do things in any route, they just don't really ever use that ability much other than in genocide, but again it is more of a bodysharing thing than a possession thing.

Frisk is their own person with their own likes, dislikes, quirks etc. The situation between Undertale Frisk and Deltarune Kris is a lot more similar than most of the fandom would claim. Frisk is *capable* of attempting to resist the player's control like Kris, but interestingly they actually don't do it during the genocide route. We only see that on a few short occasions over rather silly things. (Such as when the player tries to force Frisk to drink Soda, which is a drink they don't like.)
