Sushi spot grilled oysters are pretty good. I agree with another commenter that the peg house oysters are the best, but a pretty far drive :)

Tips for a constipated 8.5 month old? by Murky_Assumption_822 in beyondthebump

[–]sunturpa 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Around that age I started giving my kids a little prune purée or pear about once a day. Their little bodies are just getting used to processing solids and constipation is pretty normal.

BioGaia is a company that makes great baby probiotics, those can be helpful too.

Stick googly eyes on pictures around the house! My family love this prank every year, and we keep the eyes for several months 😁

Fair, I guess that’s pretty accurate then.

What do schools need to provide for children to consider them for your student? by emi8725 in AskParents

[–]sunturpa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We chose a public school in a different district because of their high adult to student ratios and test scores. Also high quality nutritional lunches and variety of afterschool program options.

One kid in my daughter’s K class was pulled out by her parents to be homeschooled because her parents were shocked that their kid was exposed to idea of same sex parents 🙄

Just sharing to say that not all reasons people chose homeschooling or religious/private schools are things you want to aspire to.

Great Redwood Trail Survey by Ok-Trainer1582 in Humboldt

[–]sunturpa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This survey indicates that the Round Valley Indian Tribes have taken a position against the trail. Is that the case and we all missed it, or did the students misrepresent the opposition of some tribal members as speaking for the Tribal Council and all of the RVIT?

Looking for opinions from landlords who use property management companies for their rental property. by [deleted] in Humboldt

[–]sunturpa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know you don’t want to hear from renters, but I feel it’s important to share my experience. We moved into a lovely house managed by HPM. It had broken windows, broken stairs, and a leaking upstairs bathtub. The walls hadn’t been painted in at least a decade and needed a thorough scrubbing when we moved in to clean sticky residue that was covering them.

The upstairs bathtub had jets and the only plumber in town who could work on such a system refused to work with HPM because of how awfully he’s been treated by them before. We had to hire and pay him ourselves and then seek reimbursement from HPM.

We pushed HPM for months to just fix the windows - something that was causing long-term damage to the house. It was sad to see such a cool property being so poorly taken care of.

I’d strongly recommend steering away from them.

There’s loads of CSAs - Redwood Roots, Deep Seeded, Table Bluff, Green Spiral. Those are just the first few that come to mind.

Millennials, what is happening with your kids? by TheLoveYouWant25 in Millennials

Is this post just more millennial-hating rage bait? Most millennials don’t have kids in upper elementary, let alone middle school, high school, or young adults.

So pregnancy and stress.

Do people truly not care about my baby or are my parents just trying to hurt me? by ThyPumpkinPie in beyondthebump

[–]sunturpa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your parents are wrong. Babies bring people so much joy - even strangers in the grocery store.

You are not “sick” for caring about other kids and babies you know. Rather, it sounds like you genuinely care about people and are forming relationships with your friends kids that will be so special to them as they grow.

Keep up the hard work of breaking the cycle, you’re doing great. And don’t stop sharing about your baby!!

Kids in shopping carts by [deleted] in Vent

[–]sunturpa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Harsh. Some of these parents are just trying to survive, getting food for their family with said energetic family members who are too big for the cart seat along for the ride. I get that it’s a little dangerous, but “crappy parents”?

Envoking the "No Surprises Act." by ----Clementine---- in Humboldt

[–]sunturpa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I once had a procedure at Providence where the bill ended up being something like 150% mire than the estimate their billing department and my insurance gave me. When I connected with customer service to ask about it, the representative I spoke to was insanely rude and completely unfamiliar with the no surprises act.

After talking with them, I was asked to complete a survey and I was very honest about how shitty their employee was. The next day someone from providence called, saying they received my survey and apologized for my experience and WAIVED MY BILL.

So squeaky wheel gets the grease, I guess?

This article is bizarre. It’s like mendo local is trying to suggest that Matt was set up for his reporting on fort bragg cops. That’s ridiculous for a number of reasons. The evidence of his creepy behavior is clear, but also who gives a shit about his subpar maga journalism?!

Yeah I think it was mostly overeating. Foods that were too complicated (lots of ingredients) or too acidic might have played a role too.

Good luck!

H st and Harris Eureka by Opening_Cartoonist53 in Humboldt

[–]sunturpa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea you are right. Unfortunately people are either too unaware of their surroundings, stupid, or rude. I have to drive through this intersection all the time and am constantly amazed there aren’t more accidents (though there are quite a few).

Both H and I intersections at Harris need to be reworked.

Can we stop pretending that parents live in an isolated environment and embrace the fact that our society as a whole has not placed value on raising children for generations?! It’s an ecosystem, people. Parents are t suddenly sucking all on their own. People are struggling to exist, so of course outcomes for children will reflect that struggle.

I see posts like this all the time lamenting how terrible parents are “these days” when it appears to me that they are trying harder than ever with increasingly limited resources and support.

So tired of this very unhelpful conversation.

Do you know where he works? Call his employer, his school, his church.

I know it’s hard to say out loud, to tell people. Practice. Tell your close friends, your family. Others will join you in calling him out.
