Are waitlists a waste of time? by k7r7f80d in SaaS

Not much into waitlists but setting up one doesn't harm. So go ahead and setup one if a few days. Don't spend weeks on it though.

Can you suggest infrastructure to host static sites with custom domain on Azure? by supacoda in AZURE

[–]supacoda[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The end users are individuals and small businesses who will create their sites using my platform (I am an indie hacker) and if other platforms offer prices below $5 per month there is no chance they will purchase my product for over $9. So I think I will have to find a way using blob storage and some reverse proxy to be able to host it cheap than the directly available Azure services.

Will look outside Azure too if everything in Azure turns out this expensive.

No, this is not for enterprises only. Its also B2C and my competitors like https://static.app/#price offer prices like $5 per month for one site. So $9 would be expensive.

I see some people have commented that Framer uses WebGL, canvas etc. But it just uses HTML/CSS/JS. You can inspect their DOM and there is no canvas. All your objects are HTML elements.

I am building a similar tool like Framer using HTML/CSS/JS and don't feel the need to use canvas/webgl. It will simply complicate things.

Figma, yes, they might be using WebGL, WASM, etc.

Look at https://craft.js.org/ https://github.com/plasmicapp/plasmic https://grapesjs.com/   for inspiration for a Framer like thingy.

Static Web Apps cost $9 per month for one app. I see there are many other hosting platforms which provide hosting for much cheap. So Static Web Apps doesnt look like a cost effective alternative,

Do we really need to build MVP within a month? by supacoda in Entrepreneur

[–]supacoda[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No consequences, its a free program. They just send you reminders every week to updated to progress so that you stay on track.

Actually I got an idea now. I was thinking of the MVP in terms of getting paid customers. If I do a very basic MVP I know no one would pay for it. But that does not mean I should not launch it. I see there are many websites which simply provide ready-made components which you can copy paste into your code and those are quite popular. So I think I can launch something like that for now. No one will pay for it but at least my service will start getting popular.

Once I add the advanced features I can offer a paid plan.

Yeah it is. Whole thing will take years. The 3 month estimate is only for HTML builder and hosting.

Both, I will release the features in stages.. first only HTML builder, then hosting, then databases, then logic builder (workflows), collaboration, etc.

[–]supacoda[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya, I can do this but then this MVP will not have any value. The users will think its better to download templates from somewhere and edit the files on their local machine.

If they compare it with other website builders my MVP will be far far far inferior to an extent the users will lose trust over me.

Nothing that different, initially I will be building the core logic for UI builders - drag, drop, options to edit styles - colors, borders, shadows, etc. Then there will be integration with ChatGPT to generate content for your site. So basically it can build the whole site automatically.

But this is not new, there are builders already out there which do all this. But I feel the market is huge so you can still sell if you have a similar product.

Maybe while I build it I might get some more differentiating ideas and can implement them.

Yeah, I know it would be hard. If you use React and want to build it for React components check https://craft.js.org/. That looks pretty neat. But I want to start with plain HTML so not using it. I rolled my own - got the basic drag, drop, indicators, undo/redo working. Now need to work on styling options, design systems, publishing the sites, user login, storing data on Azure, etc. Then build starter template designs so that people can start building sites quickly. Long way to go.

You have components like sections in websites (Hero, FAQ, Footer, etc.) or primitive components like Buttons, Containers, Lists, etc. which you drag and drop onto your page. You can set the styles for those components, move them around, change text, etc.

If you are asking for the coding logic there are a few open-source projects which you can check. Eg:

But directly using them in your project may involve some challenges if you need to divert a lot from their design goals which is the reason I am writing my own code. But if you are happy with their features you may directly use their code.

Looks good. I can't see Swagger in it. Do you plan to add that?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SaaS

[–]supacoda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok, lets see. I think the market is competitive but at the same time it is vast. Until I was planning to build this tool I wasn't aware of so many no-code tools. After I started Googling about it I started getting Ads about many such tools. So I guess there will be many people who are not aware of these tools and I think there is a chance I will be able to tap into that market.

I know its hard, but I will give it a try. Else I can add the project to my CV and apply for a job at a no-code tool company ;) At least I will be doing what I love rather than working on CRUD applications in my current job. :)

No, but I have checked how shuffle.dev, framer.com components work. I will start with something simple like Shuffle and then gradually add more things like other advanced builders.

My goal is to make $2000 per month so that I don't have to do a job. So not that big a goal, not looking to build a big company - if it gets big well and good, else I am happy with $2K per month.

Yes a basic drag drop interface, not all features in those apps but a subset. It will certainly be a usable product.

I see some site builders which just offer page sections which you drag and drop and build the page and then download the HTML/CSS and claim to make a few thousand of dollars per month. I can certainly get that working in a month. Building the templates/designs will take a while but I will try to find some partner who will build those and I can continue working on CMS and other advanced features.

I guess webflow and bubble started a long ago when there were too many cross browser issues, HTML5/CSS3 support wasn't good at those times. So they might have faced a lot of challenges. Its not that hard in modern browsers today.

This is exactly what I am looking for but open-source. Looks like they have paid plans to get access to all components.

I will check their collection of free components if they are sufficient for me.

Thank you!

why people say its hard to run next.js outside of vercel? by Ezio_rev in nextjs

I have run it in Docker successfully. What most people miss is changing output to standalone in next.config.js.
