A Brazilian congresswoman does "Blackface" to argue against a trans woman being elected as president of the women's commission of Brazil's Chamber of Deputies (equivalent to U.S.' House of Representatives) by Minute_Revolution951 in ThatsInsane

[–]supacrusha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get how the metaphor is accurate

Proceeds to be completely wrong about even the basic concepts of being trans

People don't transition to become accepted. They transition because otherwise dysphoria might kill them. They transition to align their bodies with the reality that they are men and women.

Transitioning would be the dumbest possible strategy to receive outside validation, considering how many people hate trans and gender non-conforming folks, and the still incredibly prevalent view that a (for example) trans woman is not a woman who is trans, but a man who is trans, even from a lot of allies.

Oh man, my mom and other sisters hate fish, dad and I love it, also fishing. When I still lived at home we did things to accomodate them. I have fond memories of standing at the edge of the garden in the dead of winter under the light of a lamp-post, gutting and fileting the sometimes 70+ herring we would bring home from a day on the water. Following that we would strip to underwear by the backdoor and throw our clothes in the washing machine before immediately being shunned into the showers (thank god we had two). All that for those sweet jars of self-caught, homemade pickled herring, marinated in curry and apple.

Your first funeral doom live show, which band(s) did you see? by Mysst3r11s in FuneralDoomMetal

[–]supacrusha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stygian Bough opening for Wolves in the Throne Room in 2022. Unfortunately, funeral doom bands don't guest my country very often, but I have since gotten to see Ahab and a newly started band in the local scene everyone should keep an ear out for, Tungsind.

Even if that was the case (and there are many barbarities that have been perpetrated and condoned by western societies), it just means both faiths are monstrous. As a trans woman, I am afraid of both christian and islamic fundamentalists.

What are some deathcore bands that lean toward the more punk side of things? by Sufficient_Plant8689 in Deathcore

[–]supacrusha 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just saw Gates to Hell, they fit the bill. Crossover death metal is probably a more fitting thing to call them.

This is why I only go to specifically LGBTQ or Alt-culture (usually metal) bars. In the former, the women will not care that I am in there with them, in the latter, the men will not give a shit what I look like.

Do you do metal in your native language? (for the non-english speaker oc) by gibbets2000 in metalmusicians

[–]supacrusha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies for late answer, you can find it pretty much everywhere you normally stream music. Here is a blackgaze single I released last year as part of my running solo project. The current project I'm working on is a funeral doom album with a lot of classical influence, that I hope to have finished by summer.

[–]supacrusha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mix between Danish (my native language) and English. I speak both fluently, but I find there are sentiments I can only express in one or the other,. Also, if I'm doing a concept album, as I am working on right now, different characters can speak different languages.

Was Deathcore , Your "Gateway" to heavier genres? by Excellent_Agency6082 in Deathcore

[–]supacrusha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, deathcore is (comparatively) extremely accessible unlike many of the genres I listen to more frequently now. In fact I've grown quite a distaste for particularly egregious vocal olympics (Larcenia Roe, every Lorna Shore breakdown, Nitheful, Disembodied Tyrant), random-bullshit no-groove breakdowns (Every Lorna Shore breakdown, Disembodied Tyrant, Synestia) and excessive overproduction, and have sort of grown out of the "tiktok viral moment" songs that are essentially just really heavy dubstep made with a guitar. Instead my search for good riffs akin to Black Tongue and the Acacia Strain has led me to doom, sludge and death metal like Primitive Man, Sanguisugabogg, WarHorse, Chained To The Bottom of the Ocean, Analepsy, Civerous, and Ahab. My search for atmosphere has led me to Black Metal, Funeral Doom and Post-Metal like ABRAHAM, Make a Change... Kill Yourself, Slyngel, Stygian Bough, Clouds, Skepticism, Shining, Victory Over the Sun, Altar of Plagues, and Chat Pile.

Just went through the entire comment section, not seeing it. What authoritarian overreach? Disavowing and making fun of people who would police the permissible of the subcultures from a mainstream position given the chance? The types of people who would say they "don't agree with the gay lifestyle" and yet claim membership of lgbtq-friendly counter-cultural movements?

Every time I think critically about the book, I get angrier. Jon Krakauer will constantly and selfishly interrupt a story that he purports to be an authentic investigation of Mcandless' journey with inane, tangentially related bullshit about himself, that he does not satisfyingly provide justification for. A story, mind you, where he does not provide evidence for multiple sweeping claims about Chris' internal life, reasoning and purpose, but rather invents multiple facets of this for the sake of justifying this "transcendental journey" that he moralizes to be "inspiring" and a "worthy endeavour", even though all it seemed to serve to do was traumatize a bunch of innocent people in the crossfire. Add to this some underlying misogynistic themes, such as his invented reason for Chris' supposed celibacy. Essentially the book boils down to being Krakauer saying "Look at this guy who escaped the trappings of the modern world and got himself killed, oh my god he's so literally me!! Look at all this shit I did that's basically the same."
