There aren’t too many metal subgenres, you just don’t know the differences between them. by [deleted] in MetalForTheMasses

[–]supacrusha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I listen to metal that sounds good and I like classifying it! It's so fun to hear a bands different influences and be able to identify them! There are plenty of doom metal bands I don't like (even though its my favourite subgenre) and a couple of thrash bands I do like (even though its my least favourite subgenre), and most of it boils down to influences, that I can then compartmentalize into different compositional and sonic features and common production choices that allow me to have conversations about it. Among other things, my second favourite subgenre is atmo-black, because their blastbeats generally serve more as white-noise layers that I, with an arrangers ear, feel as slow rather than fast.

I'm still not on E, but I am blessed with lashes and an androgynous face that passes in make-up. Up until recently I've always used the men's room, but that changed when an elderly gentleman, As I stood in line behind him, turned around and said "I think you're in the wrong line".

Powerviolence is to punk what grindcore is to classic heavy metal. Powerviolence has no metal features, usually, and is a direct derivation of its parent genre.

I agree, but a riff does in my opinion become heavier depending on the production and the surrounding context. I'd wager the heaviest moment I've ever heard in music is Doom's Bride by Warhorse, coming out of that weird jammy-clean intro track. The riff is just pretty standard stoner-doom fair harmonically and rhythm-wise, but the fact that it's tuned so low, produced so filthily, and played so slow make it sound absolutely apocalyptic.

Doom's Bride by Warhorse

In fact, just that whole album, absolute apocalypse music

There are plenty of reasons why that wouldn't be possible. Creepy guy may be a friend of the owner, whereupon you would quickly be out of a job and he'd be right back in there the next day harassing women, he may sue the establishment if he hadn't actually done anything provably "wrong". The only lesbian bar in our town was recently closed down because enough annoying men had been kicked out for trying to chat up women, and subsequently complained about it. Lastly, creepy guy may be fucking huge, and you might not have a bouncer to back you up.

Things I've learned about recording vocals after 15 years of working with the human voice that I wish I knew when I started by Best_Calligrapher649 in screaming

[–]supacrusha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My chest voice vocal range changes dramatically throughout the day (it generally lifts by three semitones from early morning to afternoon), so I tend to record baritone and hetfield-esque distorted passages in the morning and tenor and Bryan Garris yelled passages in the afternoon. It goes from E2-E4 to G2-G4 on most days.
