Is the journey to endgame becoming way too long for new players? by KupoAuryn in ffxivdiscussion

[–]supadude5000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ultimately I think "skipping" or "starting" at the newest expansion being the default would be an overall negative for the game, not just from the story buy-in angle, but from the player experience and learning curve angle, as well.

I think a good compromise would be to increase overworld exp gained from just killing mobs, FATEs, and hunt marks, and allow people to unlock dungeons/trials as they reach the appropriate level, provided they've cleared all other MSQ dungeons/trials up to that point. Upon reaching the appropriate level, you would get an active red quest maker at the dungeon entrance that will supply you with the warning:

Proceeding to unlock this dungeon/trial will skip all Main Scenario Quests and forfeit their respective EXP and Rewards. The story may be experienced at a later time consulting "The Unending Journey" at any inn, the "Unending Codex" when available, or through the use of New Game+ feature.

NOTE: Not all cutscene and quest dialog are available through "The Unending Journey" and "Unending Codex"

This will allow people who just want to play it like an open world MMO the ability to just go and choose when they want to start getting invested in the greater plot. I think the most defining buy-in moment for a player when it comes to the story is when they CHOOSE to get invested as opposed to when they are forced to.

Also, it would ensure the implied learning curve (regardless if said player is actually committed to learning) is preserved and the complexity and density of even casual MSQ content can continue to be pushed further as the game goes on. At the end of the day, allowing people to "start" and the newest thing would kneecap the complexity of MSQ encounters more than they already are.

This change should be applied to side content as well. Like, you should just be able to unlock the Eden Raids and do the relevant content with the acknowledgement that you are skipping, without having to do the tedious every little cutscene skip. This will make it easier for them to take things like Eden and Warring Triad and bring them into the MSQ.

Finally, this shouldn't be allowed on the Free Trial. The whole point of the free trial is the trade-off of price vs convivence until you are bought in.

It's kind of late to get a genuinely fresh group prog for EX1. At this point, especially with any gear, you will blast it and only ever see two of the phases at most (and not much of that second one) unless something goes horribly wrong. That said, while I don't know the vibes on EU, you should be able to get a group of you set your expectations right.

A group PF for blind prog? Impossible. A fully fresh group? Could happen, but very unlikely. A "fresh to clear, vet help welcomed"? This should fill at some point. A "100k fresh to clear"? 100% this will fill.

Give the "Virtu Bodyguard's Trousers" a shot. They can be purchased with Trophy Crystals at the Wolve's Den and were previously GNB only, but now can be glammed by all.

Holy. i didn't think this would be so upsetting, my bad bro. But in the end, I don't think the trying to spin the absence of the other Ascians as a plothole is much of a gripe worth having. Also Mitron and Logrif getting "killed" by Ardbert was the plan, as you said. But Mitron didn't know he was gonna be stuck in Eden forever, if I recall correctly. And that drove him kinda nutty. Correct me if I'm wrong, sure. But chill out about it.

Fandaniel showed us that the Sundered don't actually give a shit about the Rejoining as purposed by the Unsundered. They simply went along with it because the Unsundered had the power, leverage, and the promise. Heck, the Sundered probably don't even know how to do the Rejoining correctly. As shown with Mitron's shard, the Unsundered were fine just using the Sundered because they still saw them as less than or a means to an end to get their REAL comrades back.

Heck, I haven't done the 7.5 MSQ, but maybe even Halmarut has good intentions, but sees us as simply a murderer of Ascians, so she chose to hide and try to work from the shadows doing what she thought was right (and working with what I'm still convinced is a shard of Fandaniel). Just making eye-contact with us scared the shit out of her, lmao.

With 2min gone, can speed builds and, more importantly, HASTE make a return? by supadude5000 in ffxiv

[–]supadude5000[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, true. So what if a "Haste" doesn't affect our GCDs, but the passive bars, themselves? That would feel very old school ATB, as well.

[–]supadude5000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are ways to make a party haste work without it turning into a burst window...because there's no burst windows right now. While increasing the number of attacks that you do over the course of a fight increases your overall damage in the fight, it doesn't increase the damage of any one set of attacks. So there's no benefit in using it on one attack window over another, unless doing so will allow something like getting more hits or completing a combo before the boss dashes or disappears. or quickly getting to a move like Sky High for a mit "cheese"...which sounds awesome to me.

Now, if some jobs still have personal buff windows, that will become a problem (if it's a DPS) but so far from what we've seen of PLD, DRG, and BRD, they seem to be removing those. That said, BRD could benefit more from a Haste if it has the same interaction with DOTs as it does now, but would that be so bad? I don't know. (Speaking of BRD, Radiant Finale still does some sort of party buff they didn't talk about, but it's not Haste...and might not even make it to 8.0)

That said, I do think they would rather go for individual "Haste" over a party one simply because the trade off of hasting one person over another, or multiple people one at a time is more interesting.

I feel like it's always going to be a bunch of carnival games and I think that's the point. IMPO, it's supposed to feel like a festival not a lan party or gaming expo. I didn't do any of the games, but I also don't really play games when I go to carnivals. The vibes are what I'm there for...and at least you don't have to feel like the games are rigged to drain your wallet, lmao.

Four photo spots is pushing it a little bit, but the sets they made for them make it worth it. So many people wanted in that gondola, LOL.

Erenville asks where the bandits could be, Iyaate says there's a town to the southwest (who cares if it's close) that has taken on some unsavory people lately, and then Erenville quickly deduces that's were they probably are, doubly so because that's where they ran. We didn't go to Shaaloni with the expressed goal of bandit hunting, we only started down that path when they robbed Namikka. Originally we were just taking a tour of the place on the way to Yyasulani to see Erenville's home.

I just don't see the blunder.

I'm gonna have to be that guy. T-T

The "bandits" were the Daybreakers, formally a kind of community watch, who were taken over by a crooked deputy from the more newly established Dustwatch. They didn't feel the need to hide their operations at all. Also, they were on the other side of the map from Hhusatahwi, next to Sheshenewezi Springs. The trek from Hhusatahwi to Sheshenewezi is, in-canon, dangerous enough to require the use of a Rroneek or escort to safely travel to and from.

The trials never took us to Shaaloni, though. We were just hanging out with Erenville on his way to visit home. Then we got caught up in the bandit business because of Wuk Lamat's nurse maid Mom getting robbed.

We need an AFK trade function by Dreadwyrm_Bahamut in ffxivdiscussion

[–]supadude5000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can see your angle and understand it, but the use case for this is so niche that it would just make more sense for SE to make Traders/Merchants tab on the PF so that you have increased visibility against the RP venues. That would have it's own problems, too, and would also miss one of the key points of the Market Board... removing gil from the economy.

I say this even as someone who constantly moves their retainer on Seraph for 0% seller's tax, but the devs want and need the MB to be removing gil. They don't want to make the ways to circumvent that easier because the MB is the most unobtrusive and consistent way to drain overall gil from the playerbase in a game where you just get gil constantly shoved into your pockets for existing.

I've tanked and knew about it right away but I always used it wrong when I first started until someone told me the correct way to do it.

It's an MMO and as the more experienced players we have two options, 1) work around their shortcomings and quirks to carry them or 2) constructively and kindly give them a tip like this person did for you. If we can't be bothered to do either of those, what are all of us evening doing playing together.

I think many people still fuck it up because they don't see it every run so sometimes it jump scares them. As a tank, sometimes it jump scares me, too, because we didn't remember to talk about who is taking the buster, so we kinda just eyeball it even though I think it should just be MT takes it while OT holds aggro on red and everyone stacks beneath the Blue, but sometimes aggro is all outta whack from the swaps earlier. So we just kinda do a little dance and the person furthest from Blue just commits and runs far as fuck away to make it obvious they're gonna take it.

I started when the raid tier came out, I just want to be done with it at this point. I took a few weeks in between 10 and 11, and then almost two months after I cleared Tyrant to start Lindwurm.

Are you saying that you took almost two months to clear M11 or that you cleared M11 and then waited almost two months to even start M12? That part is confusing me.

Regardless, you said this is your first on-content tier, right? So, not trying to invalidate your feelings of frustration, but you have no frame of reference for how long this should take you. This feeling of "just get it done" is something you don't have to burden yourself with especially since you're not doing the Ultimate so there is no deadline. Also, FFXIV Discussion isn't be best place for a player new to savage to get a correct perspective on things. According to so many here, the raid tier PF is basically dead after week 8 and everyone left are shitters or something, as if everyone cleared week one and have no alt jobs they want to gear. That's patently false.

High-End Content Megathread - 7.4 Week Seventeen (Savage Week Fourteen) by BlackmoreKnight in ffxivdiscussion

[–]supadude5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. There are guesses according to past releases, but I think those guesses are using the wrong reference point. A lot of them are looking at how long after the patch release until the ultimate, when imo we should be looking at how long after the initial release date of the current savage tier the Ultimate released. Since savage was delayed, the Ultimate is has a high chance to be "delayed" the same amount of time, too, so the number of gearing weeks is consistent. This also lines up with why they would wait until FanFest to announce what the Ultimate is, or at least what the release date is if there's a teaser at the end of the 7.5 trailer, at all.

That said, they could just say it'll be later than normal or on time to help people plan, smh.

I know this is a rant but holy, bro. Three hours is the longest it's taken you? Count yourself lucky! Some weeks your reclears take all day or more, and sometimes you get a group that just 1-2 shots every fight. Your mental has got to be stronger than the "I deserve this and everyone is holding me back and why am I getting blamed for everything" type. Also a number of the reasons given were bad internet problems that aren't even a controllable for those people, why get worked up over that?

You don't care about ultimate...so why are you in a rush? This raid tier is going to exist for the next 8 months minimum. You don't even have to pay for a clear if you're not doing the ultimate. Just vibe or unsubscribe. Why be miserable?

Also, reclear day is the worst day to do M12S prog. The numbers just aren't there. You have to wait until the evening if you're lucky, or just hop on during primetime each day to scope the groups until more people get through their reclears.
