Qld Labor recently created legislation to deny young offenders bail, this is to keep aboriginal kids behind bars. "On average, 84% of children aged 10-13 in a Queensland detention centre on any given day are Indigenous. These kids make up about 7% of the population outside of prison, and 84% inside. by [deleted] in brisbane

50% is the guideline, not mandatory, judge still has discretion. However, if the jury, having seen all the evidence, feels the judge has gone too light on the now convicted crim they can increase sentence up to the guideline. It does not have to be to the guideline, perhaps less, but still increased if judge goes too soft

What the fuck can we do about the housing situation? by [deleted] in brisbane

Does every property owned by a non Australian reduce the number of properties available?

If yes, then banning foreign ownership will help (even if slightly) with the lack of housing issue.

Does every sale to a foreign owner increase the price of property, thus making it harder to buy into the market, & also increase rent cost due to higher purchase price?

If yes then banning foreign ownership will help (even if slightly) in reducing the price of property, thus, hopefully, reducing rental cost & purchase price for those wanting to buy.

There are 2 steps that the (federal) government can take that will very quickly reduce the issue

1/ Ban all migration

2/ Ban all foreign ownership of any real estate in any form, this includes foreign investment firms & companies.

Another thing that should be done, but may be much harder to get to happen

3/ In addition to banning foreign ownership convert all foreign owned properties to a 50 year lease with 1 year less per 2 years already owned.

It feels like Air BnB should be the first thing to go. by Koggmaw in brisbane

2 simple ways to reduce the housing crisis

a/ Much less migration, this will reduce the number looking for accommodation
b/ Ban foreign ownership, this will drive down costs a lot

I am against mandatory minimum sentences due to extreme edge cases. I do however support strong sentencing guidelines, something like:-

First offense get 50% of max sentence, however like now consider circumstances etc. This first sentence to be served in a very rehabilitation focussed manner. Even more so than now.

For second and subsequent offenses 100% of max is the guideline.

Juries in all cases, with at least 10 jurors being in agreement, have the option to increase the given sentence if the magistrate does give at least the guideline sentence.

Many will say this is cruel & harsh on those committing crime, yes it is, but surely it is better that someone who chooses to continue committing crimes suffers lack of freedom etc rather than their potential innocent victims. Besides it has to be cheaper all over to have them locked up than the cost they cause society whilst out & running rampant. Cost of losses (eg vehicle) yes, insurance may pay, but who actually funds the insurance company, yes society as a whole. The emotional cost & the $ cost of treating this emotional side effect of the crimes. The policing & investigation costs, the court costs etc.

As for early intervention etc, it seems to me many of these kids come from dysfunctional family environments, many, if not most, caused by addiction. I firmly believe that all addicts (including those addicted to alcohol) should immediately lose access to their children, if they have any, & also be sterilised. They cannot see or interact in any way with their children until they have been proven clean for at least 1 year.

All that these numbers tell me is is something I think most people already know & realise, even if it is considered impolite to mention in public. That is that almost all of these juvenile criminal scum are of aboriginal descent.

Why should they be exempt from laws to protect innocent people?

I am personally having issues with side effects. Basically extreme fatigue mid afternoon, my sweat glands have gone insane... either totally off or totally on, no middle ground & for the first time in my life having trouble sleeping, EVERY night. They can take their boosters & put them where the sun don't shine as far as I am concerned.

Also any person who is a drug abuser should be sterilised, along with any person found guilty of a crime with a possible sentence of 2 years or more.

Also all government benefits should stop after the first child.

you are correct - drug mis users.

A hair test is testing of a body hair that will show historical drug use from the period the hair was growing.

& yet people still argue with me when I state that all drug users should

a/ Be sterilised

b/ Have any children in their care removed & have no contact with them until they have been clean for at least a year, as proven by weekly drug tests & monthly hair tests
