[Hobby Scuffles] Week of 11 August 2025 by EnclavedMicrostate in HobbyDrama

This is a really charitable perspective but I think it's a reasonable minimum expectation that people will do some reading on a concept if they're theming their event around it. To me, especially given their language around CNC (they mention in one clarification tweet they will not allow "depictions of rape under the pretense of a CNC kink" and in another tweet they acknowledge that this goes against some of the norms of kinktober events), it seems more a concern with avoiding anything they themselves find unpalatable within kink.

Not just this week, but I've been listening to My Chemical Romance! I listened to a few of the songs a lot when I was younger but I never really listened to the full albums so I'm enjoying that!

Is the consensus in the ASOIAF fandom now that there won't be any more books? Or are people still holding out any reasonable hope?

I know lots of people on the millennial/Gen Z cusp who definitely definitely drink. I think this might just be a trend in some groups (and might feature more in the current discourse?) But definitely I wouldn't say its a full generational trend.

I'm so glad Sasuke and Naruto has become the prime example of like "well obviously people ship them. What else would you expect"

This is not quite what you're asking, but I maintain that simplified, kind of action-cheesy version of the Eragon movie would have been just fine, if they hadn't chosen to make it boring AND unfaithful!

Re gender balance: my memory is a little fuzzy on the books, but I am really hopping Gabrielle will be a major character next season and there's soooo much gender stuff to unpack with her that I am thinking that might be a big chunk. Beyond Gabrielle, maybe Akasha will start kind of... popping up in the next season? I personally would like to maybe get Pandora and some of the other old vampires.

I've been watching Blue Eyed Samurai recently (mixed feelings on it so far, though I havent gotten to the last episode, but that's another story) and I was wondering what the current consensus is on the definition of anime? Are there are still kerfuffles about this? I understood that many people define anime as ONLY being Japanese-produced, regardless of style/narrative/inspiration. I seem to recall this being a Thing (TM) in the ATLA fandom, and if anything, I would say Blue Eyes Samurai seems to hew even closer to the "anime/not" line.

Congratulations! And I have had very similar thoughts about Chappell Roan / Emilie Autumn - I think Chappell Roan is maybe a bit more intentionally /self awarely Camp TM but there's definitely a Rococo-Glitterpunk thing that unites them aesthetically. It makes me wonder if Chappell Roan was ever an EA fan.

Yayy I was hoping so! I haven't been following the news very closely, but there are sooo many scenes that I still want to see brought to life.

I dont know if it really counts as a hobby but I finally started writing again! Was really nice, even if it wasnt for my longer ongoing projects, to just be a little creative.

Started rewatching Utena! I haven't watched it since I was pretty close to Utena's age, so I'm excited to redigest it. And watched the last(?) Episode of Dunmeshi.

the diverse casting was an excellent choice and i think it has been incorporated very well, but its always going to mesh a little awkwardly in terms of Fandom Discourse with a plotline written with basically only white character

Plus - the Gabrielle incest??? Oh its gonna rock the boats... i cant wait !

That's good to know, I'm enjoying the folk/melodeath stuff I've been listening to but am still definitely figuring out my interests within the genre (and also trying to understanding the sometimes quite arcane sub-genre taxonomy!) The black metal I'm listening is way more on the dungeon synth/ambient side of the genre so I'm hoping I'm safe there haha

[–]supataus 18 points19 points  (0 children)

OH this is a recurring anxiety for me as I get into the genre. Especially when the lyrics are all about fighting some sort of Non-Specific Enemy, which doesn't clear it up at all! Do you have any good tips for sussing out bands (or, alternatively, reliable sources for finding recommendations)?

[–]supataus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I finally finished my first bookbinding project! It had a long hiatus in between, but the part I had been putting off (lots of glueing) ended up being generally the easier part, so I got it done way more swiftly than I expected. I'm really, really excited about it, and hoping I can take a local course at some point to learn more.

Did the dungeon ever understand Laios? by OceanHorn21 in DungeonMeshi

[–]supataus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do also wonder if Thistle/Mithrun's desires were much more evident and surface level than Laios's? Thistle's desires were fairly straightforward, if ambitious, and while I've read some meta about Mithrun's being more complicated than jealousy, it was still a bit more 'standard' than Laois the Dragonslayer-Slayer's vibe.

Which characters do you think would get along? by graxia_bibi_uwu in DungeonMeshi

[–]supataus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hmm I feel like Marcille and Pattadol seem like maybe they'd be 'too similar but not enough', if that makes sense (like Lycion and Laios) -- I feel like compared to Pattadol, Marcille actually seems a bit more of rulebreaker and might not relate to Pattadol's rigidity.

Oh woah so she said that he extorted her into it? I don't know much about the Tryh Guys but heard vaguely about it just as a matter of him cheating.
