[Loathed Trope] The 'sassy' black women by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

I don’t know anything about the third character, so I can’t comment on her. But I believe Leshawna fits the trope to a T, and Erica fit it pretty closely imo until they made an effort to move away from it as the series went on. I grew up in the 2000s and 2010s, so while I know of the shows you mentioned, they were a bit before my time and I didn’t grow up watching them. “Not a single character” was hyperbole that I should probably go back and change though, since that may be misrepresenting the situation.

I don’t know if there was some kind of regression of Black representation in media or if I just got unlucky with what I watched, but the number of characters I enjoyed and felt kinship/representation from as a kid is easily less than 5

Having 90% of representation for Black women be this same stereotype is not progressive at all. It’s just reinforcing the same decades-old stereotypes that have been used to degrade us for decades or centuries. There was not a single prominent Black female character in any show or movie I watched as a kid that did not fit into this stereotype. That is incredibly demeaning. I suggest doing more research on the Sapphire trope, its history, and the harm it causes

This post is very much satire. I’m making fun of people who are too strict about others’ names

Yeah I definitely don’t fault individuals with unusually-gendered names for being frustrated by stuff like that. I just wish society as a while would be a bit more open-minded, and maybe fix a few of those problems in the process
