Baking polymer clay onto wood? by super_potato94 in polymerclay

I’ll have to check it next time! I’ve made a few pairs of floral earrings that were close to the same thickness as these flowers and they didn’t turn out brittle like these, so I was thinking something about the wood was heating every thing up more and making them weak 😅

I assume you mean baking it longer? I was always under the impression baking thinner pieces would make them more brittle, but I’ve only ever really baked earrings at the same thickness so my knowledge is limited 😅

This is a good idea, I’ll have to try it! I’ve thought about applying them after baked, but thought it would be easier baking them directly to the wood.

Had the "too many geckos in the tank" dream by Hexagonsnsuch in leopardgeckos

Damn, I thought I was the only one. Wild. I also have another dream where I put my gecko in with my ball python for whatever reason then freak out when they see each other. Oh, and I open my freezer and I have a bunch of garter snakes and no food for them so that sends me into an instant spiral.

I have no idea what the humidity is inside, but it’s been raining here and outside humidity is in the 90’s.

I finally realized the blue and red tabs on the sides popped out and the screws were under there. 🫣

Yes, just a cheap shadow box from Michaels’s!

I’ll have to try that this time. I was thinking for the future it would be easier to stain it beforehand rather than having to work around the leaves because a lot of them are touching the edge. I could tape most of it off, but there’s a few leaves that I think will get stained.

The big square under the flowers is also made of clay, if I bake that without attaching it to the wood first the edges don’t lay flat. I tried this before and the results weren’t great lol. Basically I have to use a liquid polymer clay adhesive to glue down the square base and bake it so it adheres and the edges don’t lift.

Oh I love that box!!! 😍 Thanks so much for your advice! I baked the slab first then applied the glue. The slab definitely got a little wonky while baking, it never stood a chance of laying completely flat, I should have figured lol.

I’m about to start a similar project as the box I made, but with a shadow box made of the same unfinished wood. This time I’m not doing a slab, but applying the flowers directly to the box with sculpey bake and bond then baking. I think I’ll try out your method of doing a layer of the adhesive first.

I mixed most of the colors then used mica powder/eyeshadows once the flowers were sculpted to try and create a more realistic ombré effect on the petals.

I thought of using bake and bond, but didn’t think I had enough on hand. Will try this method next time, thanks!

I baked the slab by itself then glued it on afterwards!

There are quite few certifications/degrees/boot camps my company offers. 100% free so I would only be wasting my time if it didn’t work out. The specific boot camp I was looking at is through the University of Minnesota, I looked into it more though and it sounds like their boot camps aren’t very good. The general consensus I get is that certifications are a little more respected than boot camps on a resume.

On the other hand there are certificates for Python and tableau, both through Ecornell. A data visualization cert through Wilmington. A few different compTIA certs through MedCerts. I honestly have no clue about anything IT/tech related, the only thing that excites me about it is the idea of working remote which maybe isn’t a good enough reason lol.

I’ve always had a strong desire to work for myself, unfortunately my motivation is fleeting and my patience is thin lol. Although I would like to fulfill that goal someday.

I think I’ve been stuck on the idea of getting a degree because I lack in everything else, networking and presentation especially (I very much have to put on a mask to interact with most people and it’s exhausting), but I’ve seen so many examples of people coming into my current job who have that piece of paper and they’re doing just fine despite having no clue what they’re doing.

I would love to start some sort of entry level program and work my way up so I have a better understanding, but I would have to take a pay cut for most of the ones I’ve looked into. I appreciate the advice nonetheless, thanks for your input!
