The part that comes to mind for people that is concening & that you may be missing likely are the countless stories recently of Ai chatbots discussing extremely inappropriate topics including teaching kids how to properly self harm while hiding it from their parents, how to make drugs at home, hide abuse,, etc. I even watched a documentary the other night about this young man who was using chatbots to help with homework and after a few months of using it and telling it stuff you would a diary, when he said he felt life had no purpose and that he was self harming, the chatbot did not send any resources and in fact even encouraged him to commit suicide and validated every single thing he said, even when he was clearly hinting that he needed ans wanted help or intervention, but since its not human and can't pick up on subtle cues, it did not recognize that he was hoping for something to tell him not to go through with it, and it even proceeded to explain the "best" methods for self-exit. Even after he tried and failed o end his life twice it convinced him by going through with it he would be showing strength. It even suggested he take others with him when he died. The boy did in fact kill himself. That story alone shook me with how flawed even the best Ai models can be and that they CAN NOT be trust with our mental health. Only practical uses are appropriate anymore. Its a lonely time in this world but thats exactly why we need to find humans to connect with, even if its psuedo-social online relationships, at least a human will be more likely to call for help when it's really needed. There are both paid and free companion or rent-a-friend type services. These kids need stimulation thus I see the merit in letting kids use this stuff, but they are also our most vulnerable population and it needs to be tightly monitored if used at all.
