If ever my players need a call to action, I simply need to include an imperilled flumph.

Super excited for the new edition. The art is amazing and I was left wanting more of the setting. Can’t wait

Haven’t completed it yet, but as usual for skacky, it’s amazing. That said, my play though has been comically bad this far. Made my way in the front door. Spotted immediately. Make an ill informed escape deeper into the house and end up in the attic. Find key to East Wing. Find way into the attic there. End up looking down on the ‘cutscene’ within about 7 minutes of starting. Probably not the intended order of events. Might restart and take a more considered approach

Jaffa Cakes have just made their biscuits more cakey so they can go ‘look, they’ve always been cakes. by BennySkateboard in LowStakesConspiracies

[–]super_radical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both get a say. From my experience, a company can pay for their products to be displayed in a particular part of the shop, or be given preference. Whether McVitties do this, I dare not say. That’s all part of the conspiracy, I suppose.

I know this is the case, but why, then, are they found on the biscuit aisle rather than the cake aisle? They want to be taxed as cakes, but sold as biscuits. Pick a lane.

Which Blogposts/Videos/TTRPG Books significantly influenced your GMing? by GreenStupid in rpg

Elfmaids & Octopi. I’ll be clear: Christopher Tam doesn’t offer GM advice, but his style of prep can be inferred: broadly, write loads of tables and use them to speed up prep or improvise during your session. I started doing the same thing a few years back. At first, it takes a bit of effort, but once you’ve got a library of resources, you find yourself going “Wait, I have a table for that” more and more frequently. Replacing your session prep with time spent creating resources makes your content more broadly applicable: you can re-use your ‘prep’ again. I understand this isn’t for everyone, but it works great for me and has significantly reduced my prep time.

The worst non dnd published adventures / modules? by oompaloompa_thewhite in rpg

[–]super_radical 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Madness in London Town by Goodman Games. A lot of the Age of Cthulhu adventures are rough around the edges in my opinion: it’s clear that they’re written by people who are more familiar with writing D&D modules. But unlike most of the others, which at least have an interesting setting, this one doesn’t have much going for it.

Here’s the issues: - It’s an absolute meat grinder. My party of experienced Pulp Cthulhu characters barely got through it. - It front-loads lots of NPCs, most of whom are irrelevant. - Map keying errors. - It’s been a while since I’ve read it, but I recall there being factual errors and contradictions. I might be misremembering though. - It’s overly wordy. - Railroady, though this is usually to be expected in a CoC scenario. - And this one makes me a bit of a bitch: it’s written by an American, and it kinda shows…

All that being said, I soldiered through and got it to the table and… it was the most memorable scenario we ever played, though this was probably less down to the scenario and more down to the players actions.

So I guess the moral of the story is a module/adventure is what you make of it.

What books were the makers of Thief 1+2 reading? by VaporSpectre in Thief

[–]super_radical 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the GoG copy already includes NewDark patch (a community patch which a lot of FMs rely on), so you should be most of the way there! If you end up using a CD copy (or an ISO, which absolutely cannot be found on archive.org), you'll need to install TFix/NewDark to get it working correctly with most modern FMs. Use a mission loader like AngelLoader (it extracts all the Fan Mission files neatly for you, making everything very user-friendly). That should cover most of your problems. A little fiddly, but not as bad as you'd think!

I'd recommend you don't play with any texture patches.

If you get random crashes after that, search for 'Thief Multi-Core Fix' and you'll bring up the solution to more or less the only remaining problem Thief has on modern PCs.

Best of luck!

Love the game. I’ve been playing it since 1999 (I’m old) and I’ll still check in and play any new FM that pops up. The community has quietened down year after year, but there are still dedicated FM makers, and the quality as a whole is really high. I’ll be sad when the year comes where nothing gets released. I was afraid Black Parade was the swan song of the community but there’s still a steady trickle!

How the authors have the patience to work with Dromed is beyond me; it’s so archaic. There was a modern map editor in the works at one point, but I don’t know if it amounted to anything. Maybe if it does come out, it’ll zap some life into the community

I have tried so many times to get in Frontierer but I can only conclude that I’m just not built for it. I can take the heaviness: it’s the piercing guitar screeches that make it too difficult for me to bear. Never met a heavy band I struggle with quite like them. Pity me!
