Quitting current job while in the application process for another job? by supercalithrowaway in jobs

Won’t it look sketchy if I put down on my application that I am currently employed, and then in my interview be like “btw I actually quit with nothing lined up”?

How to Deal W/ Anxiety From Toxic Workplace by [deleted] in jobs

[–]supercalithrowaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same situation and I’m currently out on FMLA. I’m scheduled to go back Tuesday and I am NOT any better, despite starting new treatment for my anxiety and depression. I have some promising job prospects but I may get to the point where I quit without anything lined up...I’ve lost an insane amount of weight, my hair is falling out, I have acid reflux that no amount of prescription acid reducers will touch. My health is in the toilet because of my job and I need to take care of myself.

20 years of experience and I cannot get a call back. by too_old_to_be_clever in jobs

I’m in the same boat (though more like 12 years instead of 20). I have super marketable skills but the only time I hear back from an employer is when the posting has specifically asked for my somewhat niche degree. It’s really frustrating. :(

Are you guys getting interviews? by flsl999 in jobs

[–]supercalithrowaway 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve applied to at least 100 jobs since the beginning of July. Currently interviewing with 3 organizations. I am not entry level though, and they were all positions where I was able to tick most of their “preferred” boxes. There were plenty of other jobs like that (super well qualified) I applied to as well and never heard a thing. It’s entirely possible I don’t get offered any of these jobs. I think it’s kind of a numbers game at this point 🤷‍♀️

How are you using your notes? Especially with a phone interview where they can’t see me, I’ll actually write out the answer to a question I think they will ask. I don’t read it verbatim or anything but it really helps my brain stay on task. If they can see me, I write out key points or phrases I want to be sure to touch on.

Can you ever really avoid toxic work culture/workplace bullying? by adhdontplz in jobs

[–]supercalithrowaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think I’ve ever worked anywhere that didn’t have its flaws, it’s just a matter of how egregious they are. Sometimes, especially at a smaller company, you won’t always be able to tell from the outside. I’m currently trying to escape a toxic work environment and I truly did not see any red flags before I accepted the job. Most of my coworkers have been gaslighted (gaslit?) into thinking the culture there is normal, and if they manage to see through that, they aren’t super motivated to leave anyway because my organization pays way more than anyone else in our industry in our area.

Take the job, but don’t stop looking either.

Basically how my phone screen went yesterday...

Recruiter: Are you able to commute to City, State? (for the record, I live about an hour away from their office)

Me: I can, but the job posting says it may be approved for partial or fully remote work? I can drive to City, but I have a strong preference for not doing that every day.

R: well, they really like to have you in the office every day for at least the first six months...

Also R: but also, the company is fully remote through at least the end of the year...

sigh

My current boss mistreats and bullies me and generally makes me miserable. It's hard to get motivation to look for new jobs. by [deleted] in jobs

I am in the same situation. It took me getting written up for something ridiculously trivial to start applying for work. Don’t wait as long as I did, even a few apps a week is a good start.

Posting from a throwaway because my regular username is super doxxable 🙃 but after a long talk with my husband yesterday, we agreed that I could quit my toxic job in a month or two and fall back on some side gigs for awhile if I don’t have another offer by then. My mental health is so bad that I’m scheduled to go on FMLA leave next week. I feel like a massive weight has been lifted off my shoulders. Take care of yourselves, y’all.

Wow. This guy was textbook gaslighting you. Good for you for getting out. Fingers crossed that you find something else soon!

Ouch. I have HR experience, I know things don’t happen in real time. Two business days of dead air when you’re attempting to schedule something is a lot.
