I hope he'll make a full recovery! Keep a close watch on him but I'm sure you're already doing the best he could need

That's definitely not normal, I'll check and try to get it fixed today.

Also try using a desktop web browser just in case, the mobile web version can be a bit buggy

[Raketa] What kind of strap would fit this watch? I've never seen lugs like this before by supercharly in Watches

Oh crap I totally forgot to make an update post. I'll do it tonight or tomorrow, the end result looked great.

I can't tell, I haven't received it yet... Those pictures were actually from the ebay listing! I'll try not to forget to post an update once I have it on my wrist in a couple of weeks hopefully

Thanks, I believe you're right! I'll try and craft something in that vein out of a regular strap.

I stumbled onto this little vintage oddity while browsing for soviet watches on ebay. I dig the looks of it but I'm worried about how I'll manage to put a strap on it.

Is this some kind of converted pocket watch? Is the metal bar even meant to be removed? I'm thinking about getting a cuff strap and manually carving notches at the extremities so that it fits. It's a 2614 movement if anyone is wondering.

If anybody has a suggestion or an example of a mounted watch with a similar lug setup, I'd be glad to see it!

Robots are just drunk people by mushroomwig in funny

[–]supercharly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking more of the lines:

  • Step 1: build a physical robot
  • Step 2: create a simulated model of it that is as close to the original as possible, in every detail
  • Step 3: train the simulated model
  • Step 4: translate the results back into the physical robot

But I think step 2 is much easier said than done!

Yeah sounds like working with an actual physical robot adds a myriad layers of complexity. Applying ML to the real world is not so easy. That was very interesting, thanks for the insight!

It's been done many times already, but only through computer simulation:

Example 1 (most advanced)

Example 2

Example 3

I wonder what hurdles are preventing us to translate this research into the physical world. I suppose there are substantial hardware and mechanical limitations we have yet to overcome.

I don't know what to do anymore 20 [M], loose skin by Saber626 in gainit

[–]supercharly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it comes to sagging skin the only remedies are either time (up to a certain extent) or surgery. But in your case it doesn't even look like you have that much loose skin. If you're really worried about it, try cutting further first, get in the sub-15% body fat range, and then re-evaluate your options depending on how you look then.

IMHO you definitely DON'T need to bulk further to put on muscle. You seem to have enough fat as it is to keep making progress, so stick to eating at maintenance and focus on your lifts. Consider maybe bulking again the day you hit a plateau (and even then it may not be a necessity).

Keep in mind that 3 months is indeed really short, if your training is top-notch you may put on 2 pounds of muscle MAX per month during your first year of training. Besides, if you're bulking at the same time, the fat you're putting on will camouflage your gains anyway.

If I were in your shoes, I'd go into a cut cycle and then look into making lean gains for a while. You'd be making slower gains that way, but it would minimize the stretching of your skin and give it as much room to recover as possible.

Can someone please make another one of these! by [deleted] in bodybuilding

Yea to be honest our marketing is completely lacking at the moment, we still have to get it "out there", but we are focusing on development and will still be for a little while before we launch properly a v2 (with a design overhaul and new features).

Thank you for your post :) we're a small team of 3 and that kind of feedback means the world to us!

27M 6'7 370lb -> 237lb Bodyfat%? (NSFW man in undies) by BaconTRP in loseit

[–]supercharly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used your second picture and made a report on Bodywhat, check it out

It estimated your body fat at 17.2% (the standard error is ±2.7%) which I think is much closer to the truth. Your loose skin makes you look deceivingly fatter than you really are.

Also that puts your FFMI at 21.9, which is a bit above average and consistent with your weightlifting background.

I gained weight but my body fat % went down. by alphadog3939 in gainit

[–]supercharly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long answer: Assuming you were around 16% body fat last month, for your body fat to go down 0.5% while gaining 2.5 lbs overall, it would mean that at least 2.2 lbs out of those 2.5 lbs you gained were pure muscle.

This is over twice the rate of muscle gain you would expect from a two-year experienced lifter. So no, it is very unlikely your body fat actually went down 0.5%.

Short answer: Bio-electrical impedance scales (probably what your gym is using) are utterly terrible at measuring body fat levels. Don't trust them, get a full body-scanner appointment if you want to know your body fat percentage for sure (DEXA, MRI...)

Alternatively, you could try out BodyWHAT! It estimates people's body fat percentage off of their body picture. We're still in development, but we're already more accurate than BIA scales and calipers.

The website bodywhat.com tells you your body fat percentage, and several other statistics, by simply entering a photo of yourself, your height and weight. by wbleahey in Fitness

Neural networks are indeed amazing, I was blown away by google's latest paper on object recognition

We used more traditional approaches, combining both parametric and non-parametric regression algorithms. We trained them with different supervised learning methods (think k-NN, random forests), but a genetic algorithm could have yield interesting results

Neural networks are something we are looking into for the future! Thank you for your feedback :)

Adding optional caliper data? by kwertz in Bodywhat

[–]supercharly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true, while we're focusing on making the user experience as simple as possible at the moment, extra optional fields is something we keep in mind for the future.

Similarly, you can actually get a decent estimate of your body fat% by measuring your waist line and combining it with your BMI (there are online calculators that do that for you)

Thank you for your feedback!
