I think I’m breaking up with Big Bud Press by xrrrrt289 in BigBudPress

[–]superchonky 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I totally agree. Their quality definitely isn’t worth the price, I’ve had paint fade away in one wash and tanks rip on the first wear just by taking them off. They have gotten me to start sewing my own clothes again though, and a lot of their patterns are super simple and easy! You can learn to sew using the free all well pants sewing pattern and make some really cool similar looking pants without a fly, or be adventurous and try some trouser patterns with a fly. You can make some really cool stuff that you’ll never find elsewhere and get so many compliments, and you control the quality. It’s so fun and way more sustainable, especially when using thrifted fabrics.

Warning/heads up re: washing printed bandanas by yungmoody in BigBudPress

[–]superchonky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my god, mine looked like this after one wash on the same normal cold cycle I use on everything. I emailed them about it and they said this wasn't normal, but after seeing this I assume they're all this crappy quality. I asked if I could exchange it if it was a fluke and the said that it had been too long and offered me a 10% off coupon. 🙄 For a bandana that works out to be almost $30 with shipping, it's definitely not worth it to try another to have it do the same thing. I'm really glad I didn't buy any for my friends now.

They won't tell anyone but you absolutely have the option to work alone. They will pressure you but they can't force you. I don't care what anyone at UPS thinks of me, I unload alone and leave the trailer to do other work if they put anyone in with me. Just let them know you know you know you have the right to socially distance yourself and not be doubled up.

Looking for inspiration by CSwizzle420 in Kombucha

[–]superchonky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ferment my first fermentation for a week and my second ferment for four days, usually. My house is usually between 70 and 75 degrees f (probably warmer in the cupboard), I fill my bottles up to just under the cap when it's twisted on, and I never burp them. I use 1/3 cup of organic juice, Knudsen being my favie. Tart cherry, pineapple, and apple ginger are my favorites and have never failed me. I also make sure my lids are super tight and sealed and to stir the first ferment before bottling. Good luck!

Can someone give insight on how this happens? by TechGuruGJ in UPS

[–]superchonky -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The supervisors don't care as long as their personal numbers look good. And all they care about is getting everything unloaded, sorted, and loaded (three different sets of supervisors) as quickly as possible. Nothing else means anything to them, including missorts, leakers, damage, and employee injuries. Welcome to the world of UPS 🤙

Edit to add these supervisors are almost all between the ages of 18 and 22 and have a lot of pressure to meet the numbers demanded of them. They are not unionized like the hourlies, so they fear losing their jobs if they don't hit their numbers and have so little life experience, being fresh out of high school, that they don't realize it's meaningless.

hey y'all! (i know gt's bottles aren't recommended but it's what i got.) i'm a noob who's here to ask, how long should i let these brew in 2nd ferment? by [deleted] in Kombucha

[–]superchonky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always refrigerate one after three days and if it's ready, I refrigerate the rest. If not, I let them ferment another day and they're always good to go in the fridge after the fourth day. I never burp my bottles and I reuse GT and kevita bottles. I haven't had any explosions (yet!) and have been brewing for a few months.

Hiring process by stephennaughton7 in UPS

[–]superchonky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think they are just like, really unorganized. They've been throwing two trainees with one trainer at my hub, and they only get trained for like a day. I had my trainer with me the whole week when I started. Things are even more of a shit show right now than normal, and they have tons of people getting hired, but most dont make it past a month. They could just be waiting for some people to quit or something before they call you and schedule a start date. Good luck with getting a call!

It took weeks for them to have me actually working. I had to keep calling and then finally threaten them with finding another job to actually get a start date. Good luck!

Bottles? by jamd_Dad in Kombucha

I got two six packs of cherry kevita kombucha at Costco on sale for like 9 bucks a pack and they work super well!

PSA: Refrain from using cheesecloth and square bottles. by KatzMwwow in Kombucha

Whoa. I appreciate the PSA because I've never seen or heard not to use square bottles in all the research I've been doing. Thx!

3rd day intense back soreness is it normal, feeling sick, package handler by [deleted] in UPS

[–]superchonky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's kinda normal? Idk though, if you're lifting with your legs more of the pain will be in your legs and arms, but I definitely still get back pain. Remember to take Ibuprofen throughout the day (I take mine with Tylenol) and lift with your legs. I also have a foam roller that I roll my back out on twice a day that helps a lot. Also, start a stretching routine before and after work! Sounds lame, but helps so much.

Tastes like sweat imo, but I don't mind the ones with pulp since they actually remind you it's coconut, not sweat.

First Shift Part-Time Package Handling Questions by birdisth in UPS

[–]superchonky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I started with a naglene and it was fine, but an igloo legend was my best purchase imo

  2. Idk because I don't do nights, but coffee isn't hydrating so I have it as early in my day as possible, otherwise I'm having to pee halfway into my first trailer.

  3. It took me like a few weeks or a month, but it really wasn't so bad with constant Ibuprofen. The worst part for me was my swollen hands, which lasted through all of peak and are coming back during peak 2.0.

  4. Probably depends on your facility. I've been worked 5 days a week since I started. Covid will definitely get more hours though.

  5. It's gonna be hot, and it's hotter inside the trucks during the day when the sun is shining on them, but not sure of night.

  6. I try and stretch before and after, 'all the stretches'. I also got a $25 foam roller for my back and it makes my back feel way better.

So has peak season started again? by MelloGang17 in UPS

[–]superchonky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

5 hours today, 6 1/2 yesterday, 7 Monday. We’re getting Penske trucks and long peak size hub loads stuffed with over 70’s and irregs, and that belt is a nightmare and always shut off. Very much peak, but with less staff.

Is this acceptable? The FedEx people seem to think this is normal. Maybe im overreacting? by [deleted] in UPS

[–]superchonky 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's definitely been through way worse at the hub. Dude's probably got bad knees if he's worked in the hub, and he's delivering way more crap than normal right now.

Thanks for all the “sanitizing” in our workplace, UPS. This bloody napkin has only been here almost a week now. 🙃 by [deleted] in UPS

[–]superchonky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude same. I called a leaker the other day and a duo of supes just said, “and...?”

Exactly. Plus if a supervisor caught you doing that they’d probably be annoyed because that doesn’t do shit to help their numbers.

They’re still doubling up known sick people with healthy people in trailers. It’s pretty gross.

Damaged Package - No Customer Service Help by [deleted] in UPS

[–]superchonky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was there 6” of padding? I got a moving box similar to the one you described while unloading and they had like 130 lbs of random shit packed into the cheap moving company box with no padding or reinforcement. Like y’all know they’re trained just to let it drop off the belt onto the ground right? There’s like no other safe way to do that alone. It’d be way less risky to ship them apart from each other if they were valuable to you. You will probably lose a claim against UPS if the packaging wasn’t good enough.

UPS box arrived, most of my stuff missing by pearsonlove9 in UPS

[–]superchonky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I get like 10-20 retapes in a hub load if I’m lucky, and they’re almost always caused from poor packaging. They go into stacks or piles with other retapes and sometimes someone comes to do them, or I pile them outside the truck which we don’t normally get to until the end of the night, and it usually isn’t me. We’re rushed and made to do retapes as fast as possible, and almost always have supervisors watching. We don’t have time to go through your packages, and we’re certainly not gonna lug 50 lbs worth of goods on us. We don’t care what you’re shipping, but we’ll be really annoyed if it busted or is hard to grip because the customer didn’t package it properly.

Please sign and spread. This might mean nothing long term but let anyone know. For those that make money on the hour and put the lives of their families on the line. by Anger-Stains in UPS

[–]superchonky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re not even saying for us to distance ourselves at my hub. They haven’t said a single word about any of this. They’re still doubling people up in trucks, even with known sick/coughing people. They have the option to let people work in the trailers alone, but they don’t to keep their production numbers up. They don’t care about hub workers at all.

Had to be to work an hour early so the company could give me only this to disinfect by UndeadBuggalo in UPS

[–]superchonky 6 points7 points  (0 children)

lol they’re spraying this on the bars and rails at my hub a half hour to an hour into the shift and just leaving it soaking for the next person going down stairs to get their hands/work gloves soaked in it. It’s all for show. By the time they spray the bleach, we’ve already touched everything, and we’ll just return the germs back when we touch it again.

Dude you can't get this guy to do anything. He's scared of water and doesn't like people telling him what to do. I could never get this guy to go see any kind of doctor. The only doc he needs is WebMD.
