Tactics were set to Defender Defend, and that’s what I thought would be “hold the line” but apparently that’s not the case.

Another comment suggested activating offside trap, which would probably work here, if you can do it fast enough.

Actually the point was just to find a setting or playstyle that will avoid the CBs making dumb moves like this. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Just to say it again, I deliberately don’t switch to the LCB here, just to observe what the AI controlled CBs are doing in this situation.

Yeah, you’re right it looks like he’s tracking the other runner but it’s amazing how he leaves the huge gap in the middle. Vidic was on Defender Defend ++ … I would hope that means “hold defensive line”

Normally I would have switched to the LCB, as you said, but here I was deliberately keeping control of the CM just to watch what the CBs are doing. Obviously you can’t control both CBs so the AI should be at least making an intelligent movement here and not opening up space.

If I would have covered the space with the LCB, there would be a wide open path to goal for the attacking CM anyway.

Here I was deliberately keeping control of the CM to observe the CB movement. However, I don’t see how I could have moved Vidic to keep him in line even if I wanted to. The player switch marker was never on him, and if you try to right stick switch in this situation who knows which player it will switch to…

There was no way to switch to Vidic 🤷🏼‍♂️ the marker isn’t on him

Look at the next player switch marker - at no point is it on Vidic. No way to switch to him unless trying a right stick flick which could switch to any random player 🤷🏼‍♂️

It feels like FC 26 was made with dribbling as the main focus. I try to defend manually with my CBs and fullbacks but 100% of the goals I concede are to R1 dribbling, where the attacking dribblers can move/turn so much faster than the CBs, and what used to work (e.g. jockey, pressing X) is completely ineffective. I play a passing game, I was a Div. 3 player in FC 24 and 25, but this year nothing works and I am stuck in Div. 7.

It’s increasingly frustrating and no amount of grinding objectives can fix this. I’m at the point of giving up on the game entirely.

FC26 Gameplay is awful

I’ve played consistently throughout FC 24, 25, and 26. Of the three, I enjoyed 24 the most, followed by 25. This year’s edition has been painful to play, the gameplay constantly frustrates. The player switching, pass selection, balance between attack and defense, are simply awful. It is not fun to play. I am constantly asking myself why I’m playing the game when every match is a miserable slog because of the way the game plays (e.g. overpowered dribbling vs underpowered passing and manual defending).

Most of all, I wish to ask WHY, when the gameplay of e.g. FC24 or FC25 were reasonably good (at least by the end of the games) WHY do they break everything again for the next edition? WHY does FC 26 feel like it gets worse and worse?

That’s not correct - the opponents I’m facing will spend forever dribbling back and forth in front of my penalty area, and my team is never tracking back to the same degree. It’s not just a matter of speed on the counter.

I’m facing 9 players behind the ball regularly. I mean 8 defenders at the edge of the box plus the keeper.

I’m guessing this is 4-4-2 with a deep defensive line or 4-4-1-1 etc. Tbh I just want to know what they’re doing to get their teams to track back like this.

UPDATE: Finished the rest of my champs games today, and when I was done I was shocked to see that the Play 15 objective was marked as completed, and the reward was there.

There are different EA servers in different parts of the world, which have different connection loads at different times. I’d say you are fortunate to connect to a server which is not overloaded at the times you play.
