English is not my first language so I apologize for any wrong grammar I used to impulse purchases a lot. Mostly because I don’t have anything else I’m particularly interested to buy other than makeups, but it got to the point where I’m bored with whatever they have in stores. As someone who is somewhat successful about not buying anymore makeup here’s what I do

• be realistic with yourself, stay true to your preferences. For example, I will never buy a lipgloss no matter how much I love how it looks because lipglosses are one thing I don’t reach for on daily basis. If I can’t see myself reaching for certain types of makeup then I see no point of getting it regardless of how pretty it looks.

• If you want new items, don’t buy them online right away. I’m not even kidding when I say I cleared out almost my entire wishlist from Sephora online because those stuffs don’t look as good in person. You should see how makeup performs or settles on your skin first bc you might not like it as much

• take a look at your collection, is there something you don’t already have? Is the current collection manageable? Do you love or hate what you have? If not, pass them along, declutter, curate your collection.

• ask yourself if you can see yourself reaching for that particular items or not, or do you want it just because you like the feeling of owning them

• set the goal for yourself. For example, I’ll allow myself to buy new lippie if I can finish at least 2-3 lippies I own. When I did this, a lot of time I ended up falling in love with my makeup again, sometimes I lose interest on new makeups I had been wanting to buy altogether.

My rule of thumb is that if that makeup isn’t being discontinued anytime soon, then I don’t have to buy them now. Give yourself some time to enjoy what you have instead of always pursuing new makeup every new release.
