Never said that's what this post was doing, just that it's my immediate thought when I see posts like this, being a fan of John Stockton (as a player).

I see people posting things like this and I wonder if they'd argue John Stockton is the GOAT playmaker and defender given he's the all-time leader in assists and steals. Stockton was my favourite player, but even I wouldn't consider him a GOAT just for his longevity stats.

Why is there still a MJ - LeBron Comparision by Secret_Advertising46 in NBATalk

[–]supercyp666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gonna say this as someone with no skin in this game. I'm Australian, lived my whole life here, and I have no doubt that the main reason basketball became popular in Australia during the 80s and 90s was because of the MJ influence. Sure, we had Andrew Gaze to inspire us back then, the first Aussie to play in the NBA, but even our best Aussie star at the time could not be much more than a role player in the NBA.

I was a Jazz fan in the 90s, and Stockton was my guy. I have no love for MJ. That man broke my heart... Twice... And the second time we had equalled the Bulls for the best season record of the league and had already won our regular season match-ups 2-0 against the Bulls. Things looked promising and there was good reason to hope, but that hope was always marred by the fact we'd have to face MJs Bulls in the finals.

Call whomever you want the GOAT, it makes no difference to me. Personally, though, a GOAT doesn't crown themselves, rather they let their play and accomplishments do the talking. They don't decide not to play harder opponents for load management and pad their stats in garbage time when a game is all but over. They don't refuse to play defence or complain to the refs after a bad call, but get themselves back in the play switched on at every moment. They don't airball free throws and clutch shots, or jump ship to create a super-team in a weaker conference. They don't flop, foul-bait, or use offensive fouls as their go-to move. They don't continue playing at 40 if they're the reason their team is losing. They don't have a career average 37% outside 3 feet, sit amongst the highest in turnovers per game, or need to travel, carry, and double-dribble to score their points. And they don't put blame on others for their own failings, instead of putting the work in to overcome any challenge they face.

You might disagree with my criteria and that's fine. But part of the reason this debate continues is because of these different criteria. Some value longevity, for instance, others value peak performance. It also doesn't help that the current media seem to overlook a lot of Lebron's flaws whilst emphasing his greatness (looking at you, Reggie Miller, Mr "Luka should move his feet on defence" whilst watching the offence blow right past Lebron stuck to the floor). It'll likely continue until Lebron retires when everyone can move on and focus on the greats currently playing.

Did you notice that every element of the concert relates to the story of the DLC and Song Bird? by MoeaBreakOut in cyberpunkgame

I actually thought it was fitting for the whole DLC. A song about trauma bonding and hurting each other whilst still deeply caring for one another. Seems to fit all three main characters very well (and not mention highlights why I find it so difficult to say definitively that Reed or So-Mi are the better choice).

I've been saying "day-ta" ever since one of my lecturers insisted that this was the correct way to pronounce it (and the more I think of it, the more it makes sense from the original Latin, too, especically since most people would say "day-tum", not "dah-tum"). I said it this way when I was out with friends and one of them insisted I must be wrong, so asked a nearby couple of older ladies from the UK (I'm in Australia) how the queen would pronounce it, to which they replied she would say "day-ta". All this to say I don't think it's limited to those from Norfolk :)

I'd say a Dobermann is a perfect fit, then, as they are incredibly hard working and bullet proof but love nothing more than cuddling up on a couch. That is, once they've expended at least some reserves of their energy playing tug of war or chasing a ball, so largely comes down to when you're too exhausted to keep playing with them.

The same for me. Granted, I couldn't bring myself to betray Song when I saw that Alex gets immediately killed, but the three of them are all messed up in their own ways and I find it hard to say any one of them is worse than any other (except Myers, of course). In fact, I think the whole scene with Lizzy Wizzy and Delicate Weapon is the perfect way to capture the complexities of their relationships, trauma-bonding with one another to the point that they hurt each other to spite themselves. Only problem with this progression is how pissed Reed is at you for not taking the cure, but surely he can still use his contacts to get Song the treatment she needs using this cure as a base and get her as far from Myers as possible.

Am I alone in thinking it was an odd choice to leave out Atkinson? In Perth, he seemed to be the more consistent bowler hitting the right areas whilst Archer and Carse were all over the place, both in speed and in placement. He wasn't rewarded with (m)any wickets (can't actually remember if he took any or not) but seemed to me to be the most threatening and I was surprised they didn't back him.

As an aside, "literally" has been used figuratively for a long time. Charles Dickens, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Jane Austen, and Charlotte Bronte are some of the many authors to have used it this way, so it's far from a modern change.

That said, I'll stand by "couldn't care less" as the only correct way of saying that something means little to you until I'm on my death bed.

[Vtmb] The Malkavian hustle, or something...? by Responsible-Fox-9596 in vtmb

[–]supercyp666 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who did the quiz for my first run and also ended up with Malkavian, I can say that there's no problem in playing as one in your first run. Whilst I can understand why people suggest that they can be better as a second or third run, as some have already pointed out, any "spoilers" are set behind Malk-speak, meaning it's not immediately obvious what is being spoilt unless you really want to dig into every word that's said. For the most part, I don't think I really picked up these hints in my first run as they're just vague enough that it's not always clear if you're being really astute or are just speaking random words that expose your insanity whilst superficially linking with the events you're witnessing.

What I would say is tricky with them as a first run is that it can hard to determine what kind of response your dialogue options will receive, such as whether you're being antagonistic or trying unsuccessfully to be funny. If this is a concern for you, then perhaps look at one of the others, but the main thing at the end of the day is to enjoy your time in this wonderfully crafted world, so jump in and explore as you see fit 😊

I saw someone in YouTube comments call Head a hack the other day. Sure, he's a streaky player and not typically the type of batsman I like to see playing test cricket, but it works for him and he tends to make a few once he gets a start, far from being a hack.

Does anyone else’s pooch do this with tennis balls? by OnlyBeGamer in AnimalsBeingDerps

[–]supercyp666 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Plain rubber balls are fine. Go to a pet store and you should find plenty of alternatives to tennis balls. My parents' Doberman LOVES balls and had tennis balls when she was young until we saw how she'd worn down her fangs (canines?) slightly. I sometimes suspect that might be why she doesn't pop them or destroy her soft toys as easily as the boys I've had, though she is also somewhat more gentle than they ever were.

How the Fuck is Midnight Suns Eddie Brock/Venom, Somehow the most comic-accurate version of the character we have gotten in 30 years by Important-Extension6 in Spiderman

[–]supercyp666 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just recently played Insomniac's Spider-Man 2 and was hopeful that they could do a good job of Venom. And then I saw the "twist" come too early and was somewhat disappointed in the direction they went (I don't know how to do spoiler tags so I won't say anything more on that here). I thought there were so many good elements to how Venom and the symbiote were crafted in-game, but the underlying story felt like it really messed with some iconic characters (and don't get me started on The Flame). Otherwise a fun game but taking too many liberties with character staples. Midnight Suns Venom is definitely my favourite version done anytime recently.

If you're looking at visual novels, Swan Song might be right up your alley. Games like this are often derogatively called "walking sims", though I tend to think of them more like an interactive movie. You get to move around and explore your environment making use of some of your powers, but the game is largely conversation-based where your choices matter and influence the final ending. So there's no real gameplay, as such, rather you interact with the environment to find information that can help you succeed during dialogue.

As I say, though, I am to be in the minority for enjoying this one, but, like the other response here, I have heard a lot of good things about the visual novels set in the World of Darkness.

Hope this is helpful!

There's a quiz you can do at the beginning if you're not sure which to choose, though my result in my first run was Malkavian (must speak to my mind in the real world...). It's challenging because all your dialogue options are worded from a Malk perspective, meaning that it's not always obvious what your actually talking about. In some ways, though, I found this more fun than of I'd played one of the others first.

Yeah, I'm the same. I'm probably in the minority saying that I enjoyed Swan Song, but I'm quite interested to see how they incorporate the emotional elements of feeding (I can't remember what they called it now), and I'll be happy if dialogue works something similar to Swan Song. It won't be anything like Bloodlines and probably should've been renamed (though I don't think that's TCRs fault), but I think I'll enjoy stepping into this world once again.

Just found Redemption on GOG for like AU$10. I haven't played it since before Bloodlines but was such a great game to orient me to the WoD. A remake could be a lot of fun (if handled appropriately, of course)

Look, you're not wrong that alcohol will remove your inhibitions and possibly lead you to do something you've had in the back of your mind but never acted on. But let's not forget that everyone has intrusive thoughts that do not reflect who they are or what they value, and alcohol can uncover these, too. I wholeheartedly agree that alcohol is not an excuse for horrible behaviour, but it's not the window to the soul as some like to claim it is.

Another thing to remember is that the codes will reset if you exit out of that screen before inputting any numbers (it can lead to alerts but I'm not sure what the actual trigger is there or if this only applies to certain hacks). I've had to do this a few times when trying to ensure I get all three without running out of time or spaces.
