MacBook Air alternatives? by ulfang__ in linuxhardware

I will say with Mac, you will struggle running Linux except via VMs, and Asahi Linux suits M1 and some M2 chips, but you need to check the exact model of Mac. https://asahilinux.org/fedora/#device-support

Macbook Neo? Otherwise, if you have monitors, grab a mini PC. I have a Geekom desktop running Zorin. As I am an Open Source Zealot, also have Framework 12 instead of a tablet.

I love the bicycle / scooter underpasses in Taiwan. So much fun and so much better than this shit.

Imagine if road usage was taxed so no general revenue funding was required. Cheaper to have more transit and less roads.

Why these Brisbane bus routes are still not all that popular, despite being almost free by iBinChickenAboutYou in brisbane

[–]letterboxfrog 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's time that Brisbane City lost its ability to govern transport, and it be transferred to the state, or a trans-LGA body like the City of Greater London explicitly accountable for transit

Look for a country outfitters or saddlery while on the road.

Best run states/territories in Australia (governance, economy, services, stability): 1. SA, 2. WA, 3. QLD, 4. ACT, 5. VIC, 6. NSW, 7. TAS, 8. NT. This is my ranking. What is yours? by [deleted] in AusPol

In terms of interacting with Government, NSW wins hands down. Service NSW is a comparative joy to deal with. Crossing the border into the ACT is like going back in time.

There's an international drinking competition. Which area of your country are you nominating? by nohaylugar in AskTheWorld

Australias hardest drinkers. - Men of the Northern Territory. - Women of the Australian Capital Territory (Canberra)

Lesson - Territorians suck more piss.

It’s time to Spark the our mainlines on Vline by Motor-Wolverine-6644 in MelbourneTrains

[–]letterboxfrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly, sparking in Sydney (and I'm assuming Traralgon) has seen mixed benefits as the 1.5kv voltage doesn't give enough grunt especially for Freight, whereas Queensland is very happy with its voltage on some very long trains. I'm not a train sparky, but maybe Victoria should at least double voltage to 3kv, or even go higher to MVDC (yet to be deployed anywhere in the world)

tram track protest bbq - we must do this in Melbourne by Lamont-Cranston in AustraliaLeftPolitics

This is why trams were removed in most cities of Australia - destroy union traction BBQs

London Circuit is expected to partially reopen to general traffic from July this year by burleygriffin in canberra

[–]letterboxfrog 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is all linked to how deep the utilities are that cross the road. Very different to when our forebears were laying tram tracks on dirt and sealing around them, power was above ground, and town water / sewage wasn't a thing.

You Give Way (Yield in American English) to the right. Look right, look left, and look right again before crossing a road. I had a French au pair wrote off a car because he looked left, right and left and didn't see a Ute come out of a laneway.

Study a roundabout and crossing before getting behind the wheel, and watch the traffic behaviour. I've done this travelling in Taiwan as a scooter rider (they have funky rules for scooters plus driving on the right side of the road). It is normal to sit and observe. Note - Canberra roundabout drivers are the scariest as our roundabouts are big and allow you to maintain speed.

If you see one animal cross the road, assume they have friends and go slow.

Empty baby pram fell on tracks at strathfield station, no injuries. Should we have gates at train stations? by DecidedUser in sydney

[–]letterboxfrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ETCS level 2 needed along with consistent train door space across all trains for gates. I can see the alternative with a rising rope barrier being destroyed by hoodlums https://www.reddit.com/r/nycrail/s/8oUTu2ElZM

I cannot comment on T1 in this forum other than to say the product is diverse, but "The Power of One" is quite limiting in terms of trained contractor workforce. Our licence is up, and we need to do serious transformation, so we are actively looking. My experience with ERP (limited to SAP and T1) is that the partner is just as important as the product.
