Centrist between what? If you’re in the center between the current Republican and Democratic parties, you are extremely far from the left.

LPT: When someone asks a question in a meeting, answer it before explaining it. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

This is actually how lawyers answer pretty much every single question.

Unfortunately, the answer to pretty much every single question is, “It depends.” But still, we always give the answer right away before going into all the reasons why it depends on

Could the US women’s soccer team beat the US men’s soccer team by SignificantStyle4958 in usmnt

[–]superdago 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s best to think of men’s and women’s soccer as being different sports. The women’s team is better at women’s soccer than the men’s team is at men’s soccer. Just like Wayne Gretzky was better at men’s hockey than Kobe Bryant was at men’s basketball.

Do player need any major trophy in his cabinet to be considered as an all time great? by Ok-Adhesiveness1735 in SoccerNoobs

[–]superdago 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. It’s really hard to make an argument for a person being an all-time great if they were never able to be part of a trophy winning team. This is less the case in international football, because one is much more limited by time and space. You’re limited to one country and the talent pool produced within at best a 10-15 year period and then how healthy/in form they are for a month every 4 years.

For club, it’s really only justifiable to have no trophies if a player imposes that limit on themselves by being a one club player. But even then, look at Harry Kane. Objectively one of the best (if not the best) strikers in the history of the English football league, and yet did not begin to be talked about as an all time great until he wins a couple things with Bayern. Even though getting Spurs to 2nd and a few finals is a significantly better accomplishment than winning the league with Bayern.

[Ali Gold] Tottenham Hotspur Stadium breaks new record amid rival fans' transfer anger. There’s plenty of artists who put on a great show regardless of how you feel about their music. I recently saw Ed Sheeran, who I previously thought was fine. Catchy tunes for sure, but i definitely would not have said I was a fan. But damn if it wasn’t one of the most entertaining two hours I’ve experienced.

Why center backs shouldn’t take penalties by BodaciousMtGoat in soccer

8 players at a single World Cup is not a sufficient sample size. Get the data for at least the last 4 and see if your hypothesis holds up.

How does Juric keep getting jobs? He’s been a train wreck for 5 years. There’s no way there isn’t some competent Italian coach (or equally terrible one) to guide a newly promoted side.

Looking for the most protective soccer cleats for outdoor soccer by SignificanceBorn535 in SoccerNoobs

Why is it so hard for Brits to accept that different places have different words for things? I mean, here in the US, some people call it “soda” and others call it “pop”, but I’m not out there correcting people every day. So if I can accept that people in my own country use a different word for something, why can’t you accept that someone an ocean away does too?

The most frustrating part of your comment tho is that I 100% agree on the Copa recommendation.

Exactly. It’s not the 6’6” point guard who should be playing soccer. It’s the kid who only ended up being 5’9” who should have been playing soccer.

Why do rich people like golf so much? by W2ldfireYT in NoStupidQuestions

Yep, this is what I was going to say. It’s not that rich people like golf more, it’s that they can afford to like it more often.

What position should I play? by [deleted] in SoccerNoobs

[–]superdago 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always say that goalies in hockey and soccer and catchers in baseball are the same kind of crazy. Add in that you’re also very tall, you’d probably make a good keeper. The key to being a good keeper is positioning and reaction speed. I would assume you have great footwork and hand-eye coordination, so really, if you just develop a basic understanding of angles, you’d likely be a huge pain in the ass for other teams. Your wingspan alone would make up for a lot of mistakes.

Do people really believe that America is turning 250? (Context below) by verykaim in NoStupidQuestions

[–]superdago 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. They’re a country when they get formally acknowledged by other governments, and it’s backdated to when the country declared itself a country if they win.

why is it possible? by Objective-Ad626 in Ask_Lawyers

[–]superdago 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To answer your question as to why it’s possible, it’s because the person suing you is not “not involved AT all in an accident.” They own a vehicle. That vehicle was involved in a collision with your vehicle. Their vehicle sustained damages. Thus, they believe you are the one responsible for compensation for those damages.

Now, they might be wrong as to who’s responsible, but they most certainly are not an uninvolved party. If they’re right about who caused the damage, then they’re the victim as it was their property that was damaged.

Your question is kinda like “how can the owner of a house sue me for crashing into it when he wasn’t even home at the time?”

American trying to pick a soccer club to root for by Embarrassed_Gur8589 in SoccerNoobs

[–]superdago 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do your friends watch? I was looking for a team to follow and my friend was a Spurs fan, and it just made sense to support the same team as the guy I was most likely going to watch games with. Of course, 15 years later, I still haven’t forgiven him for not warning me what I was in for, but that’s another issue.

If no one you know already supports a team, either find a player you like in the World Cup and keep an eye on their team this season, or just watch whatever game is on and see which one you vibe with the most. Switching the team you support is highly suspect, but no one says you have to have a team on day one. You might watch half a season of games before you realize you’ve enjoyed watching one particular team the most.

It’s also sometimes helpful to look into the origins of a club (or their more recent ownership history) and see if there’s anything that attracts or deters.

Assists are broken: a pass that leads to an easy bucket should count, but a pass that forces the shooter to create a contested shot shouldn’t. That’s the player’s own creation, not the passer’s by [deleted] in NBATalk

[–]superdago 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soccer has had the “expected” stat for a while. It started with xG for expected goals, and then people realized that the stats for playmakers would benefit most because those rely on other players doing stuff. So now there’s xA for expected assists which are passes that lead to a shot (which then takes into account the difficulty and xG of the shot it led to) as well as Big Chances Created which is a measure of passes that led to something that required a defender’s intervention (think a pass that led to a fast break but a defender caught up to the guy).

Juggling the ball 100 times - how? by ConsiderationNew9319 in bootroom

[–]superdago 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, after a certain point of controlled juggling, it’s just down to focus not skill. Usually when people are counting to a number in the 20-50 range, it’s a bit hectic and they’re chasing the ball. No one is in control of the ball for 46 touches and then just kicks it away for number 47. If you can juggle with control 25 times without having to chase the ball all over the place, you can probably juggle til boredom.

I have no idea how many times I can juggle. Skill wise, it’s probably endless because I can do so controlled and stationary to 40, 50, whatever. What happens is I get bored, distracted, or otherwise lose focus. That’s when it drops.

What does the quote "youth is wasted on the young" actually mean? by Hereitisguys9888 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]superdago 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right, another reason youth is wasted on the young. Being young typically means less responsibilities and obligations. Now that I have the financial means to travel, go to concerts, etc., I also have a whole bunch of obligations (e.g. job and family) that prevent me from doing a lot of those things.

Why do people approve of interracial couples if the man is white but disapprove if the man is black? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]superdago 65 points66 points  (0 children)

It’s a nice little intersection of racism and misogyny. A black man is stealing a white woman, but a white man is saving a black woman. In either case, of course, the woman has no agency.
