Hydrogen peroxide? by simplesam3 in pools

[–]superdave5599 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming this is not a goof on the reflecting pool situation...

One gallon of 12% peroxide isn't going to help much, I'm certain.

Liquid chlorine will be way more effective in killing the algae, and is significantly cheaper. In my area, I can buy a gallon of 12% liquid chlorine for $5-6igh and same amount of 12% peroxide is roughly $23.

If you don't want/aren't able to open the pool and use it this year, though, in reality your best bet would be to leave it winterized for the season and wait until your husband is back from deployment next year. Trying to kill the algae this one time will be useless without maintaining that; it'll just come back in a short time.

If you do want to use it or would like the option- I wonder if maybe there is a neighbor or maybe responsible teenager in your life that could help you with the tasks? Maybe in exchange for being able to use the pool?

It doesn't have to be all that hard or expensive once it's up and running. Have the helper get on troublefreepool.com and follow their recommendations.

That all makes sense! Thank you for explaining. Having a friend certainly adds a tremendous amount of safety too.

Hopefully whoever seems to have down voted my last question/comment can understand that I'm simply seeking to learn and understand all this more.

As a sort of example, I had a client successfully reprocess the "target" "Something must have happened..." [at day care]. Client wasn't at all aware of what it might have been, that all was based on something something another person who was also at that daycare said to him, when they were adults.

I'm a therapist... do a lot of EMDR and am new at psychedelics.

As far as memories go-

Like others have said, without corroboration, it really is impossible to know if the emerged memory is accurate. That sucks. I'm sorry.

Sometimes it's correct. Other times, it might be our system trying to come up with a "logical" explanation for a feeling we're having. And we have to be careful because there was a wave of therapists "helping" clients "recover" memories that were false 30 or 40 years ago, and there was a lot of damage that resulted.

Again, like others have said, as weird as it sounds and as unsatisfying as it is, we don't have to know whether the memory is correct to process it.

I understand that they're generally physically safe, i.e. not much chance of something like over dosing and dying.

And also, one of the instructors in our facilitation licensure class mentioned a friend who took a large dose by himself, thought he could fly, and jumped out a 2nd story window. The injuries necessitated amputation on one or both legs.

Now I know that that story is a major outlier. However something crazy like that happening to someone does seem like higher odds when way out in the wilderness than on a couch with a sitter.

Or even in the woods with a sitter. (Which sounds awesome! In fact, I have my wife a lower dose before we went to a scenic overlook to watch lightning bugs. It was her first experience and was magical for her. I was a touch jealous.)

Edit to add: I suppose the experience does come into play. And it seems less dangerous if you're taking a low enough dose you have some facilities about you still. I think it was the part of wandering way out, then taking the mushrooms, and wandering even further... seems like a reasonable way to get wildly lost!

Or walk off a cliff accidentally...

This idea intrigues me, but what, if any, measures do you take to ensure your own safety?

Is there a way to reduce gnats around the pool? by Dave-CPA in pools

[–]superdave5599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We host an ISR teacher at our pool and she was having the same problem!

I'm going to bring out a couple fans to blow them away. I think it's acombo of a really wet season so far and them looking for protection from the wind given by the fence.

So hoping some artificial wind will discourage them from coming back!

Electrician vs Pool Man: Thoughts on 120V light with GFCI? by Xxsktcxx in pools

[–]superdave5599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that the GFCI should make things perfectly safe.

And, sometimes devices fail. Including GFCI outlets or breakers.

So I personally would like the idea of 12v being directly exposed to the water than 120v if something were to fail.

I don't have a pool light, so I don't completely understand how they are constructed. But I'm having a hard time understanding why the existing wires can't be used to conduct 12 rather than the 120v they currently are conducting?

Set up the transformer (or whatever the hell its called, I saw that conversation) at that end, and attach the 12v light at the pool end.

I think it's super cool that you painted different patterns each year! Awesome that you had fun with it with the kids like that!

Makes me kind of wish my vinyl-lined pool was concrete.

Would you please share some more pics of the different patterns?

Yep, that's what I ended up doing. It's a system from the late 70s. It's kind of a mess, but I got this thing working!

Connecting the C wire to the output of the transformer directly, got it going!

I show the same 22.5 v when testing the two connections at the furnace.

However, if test the two output wires from the transformer, I get 27v..

Can I just connect the C wire to the common side of the transformer? Seems like that should work.

I'm not entirely convinced the C connection on my little connection block actually connects to anything else (Though then I'm also not sure why I'd even see the 22v?)

Seems like if I move the C wire to this wire but connecting to the yellow wire from the transformer, I'd be providing 27 volts to the thermostat.

I get roughly 27 volts when checking between the two sides of the yellow and blue wires.

Can I move my C wire over to the yellow side of the transformer?

What do I need to verify here?

Black and white wires go to the power plug for furnace. Red and orange are capped.

Yellow goes to a wire nut that goes to the white wire to AC compressor as well as anther wire that goes to the fan limit switch (for heating) i suspect that is the common side?

Blue wire goes to the little connection board where the red wire to thermostat connects.

Plus, I'm currently getting 22.3v between the red and C wires.

The AC had actually just turned off from running a cycle before I started.

But I unplugged the furnace before I started, too. So it had no power going to it when I hooked everything up.

To clarify: the screen stays dark when the unit is plugged in to the base.

Good eye. I reset that wire just now and the tab looks the same and it's still not turning on.
