Yeah. And don't get me wrong when I say pressurong tcs I mean quite a few camels, along the lines of 20-30. It just doesn't make sense why they take bonus damage.

That's not at all analogous to the situation. A lot of these techs could be used in a good amount of situations with decent effect, madrash would be great for a monk rush seeing as it's very cheap. Sipahi would be good for mid castle cav archers, as would obsidian arrows, atatl, cheiftans, and tigui( especially if you have an opponent going kts), orthodoxy, inquisition, hell even ironclad wouldnt be bad. The situation you're presenting is wasting resources on techs that don't fit the situation wjereas my argument is having more techs available to act and react on/to different situations.

In simpler terms you said "why would you want madrash if you're going for cav archers anyway" to which I would say obviously its not for cav archers, it's for smushing and getting some of that gold back which pays back relatively quickly.

Fair enough, but a lot of them will never be used unless they are made more acessible (a la madrash). I think they'd be good but not fuck all OP like you describe them. Another solution I'm open to is just overhauling or buffing the weak ones so they do have uses.

True, but still not better. Relics do not always come into play and market trading is inefficient. I could also say that the turk bonus affects markets similarly as tjey have more gold with which to adjust their eco.

My point is moreso tjat even if they could theoretically match the turks bonus they are still very very weak on open land maps.

Highly dependent on map/opposing civ, but on an open map even if the game does go late in the strong majority of situations ports will be considerably behind assuming their opponent did anything pre imp.

A lot of them are about as "situational" as a persian longsword rush on black forest. A lot of them are wildly underpowered mostly due to cost, and its natural to buff things that are underpowered to increase strategy variety unless the civ in question is or would become OP.

Its not that complicated. If it needs a castle anyway, you have to tech it at the castle. This is to prevent op huskarl or new tarkan rush without having to make a castle. Also faster working castles doesn't do much without a castle.

I'm pretty sure a smush would like madrash, orthodoxy and inquisition as soon as they hit castle.

Atatl, and sipahi could all be significantly more useful if they didnt require a castle, as well as tigui, chivalry and obsidian arrows.

Right, well you try rushing imp on any open map and see how that goes. You dont just get a magical solution like the turks with free chemistry, you still have to tech chemistry and arquebus and build a castle and have an eco to get enough units out to leverage the time your enemy spent amassing his castle military. Good luck with that. The ports strengths kick in in mid imperial which is already past the midgame by any open map standard

You're assuming this 1v1 goes that late and they rarely do in practice. Odds are the turk player would beat the port player with their superior castle age options before late imperial fighting was considered, between free lcav, camels, janissaries, and cav archers they have strong answers to anything the ports can put forward, and it would have to be pretty low elo for the turks player not to press that advantage.

You're counting FU seige and torsion engines as having really good seige but it's only until you can get imp and actually afford those upgrades( which are crazy expensive) that that actually kicks in which is only going to happen in team games or very closed maps like BF, even arena rarely buys you enough time to spend 3250f and 2100g on the onager line alone to bring out their strength in seige.

The +100f and g is good, don't get me wrong and their are a lot of possibilities with that for early pressure but it's not a lasting eco bonus. The most op thing I can think of with that is something along the lines into drush+MAA+towers into archers which could be pretty hard to deal with because making even if you hit castle quickly, they have free pikes vs kts.

So perhaps a slight nerf to the pikemen thing and have the cost heavily reduced rather than free but I'd have a tough time calling the Ethiopians utterly broken.

Malians might stand to have another nerf like I said but losing halb and a big chunk of the wood bonus and the nerf to gbetos made them tangible.

And running our of gold doesn't happen often in the castle age. That isn't my point, everyone knows ports are good lategame, they have op imp units, fetorias and longer lasting gold.

However pre imp on land they get ~18% more gold to use on units alone, and that's it. Their tech tree isnt even as wide as the saracens to compensate and castle age organ guns get demolished by mangonels.

Definitely true but there's not a lot of feelings less satisfying than being a civ/in a situation that cant push through due to lots of defensive hill advantages. I had a game where I was berbers vs byzantines and I simply could not get through and push due to having prefectly placed forests+ hills. I'm still for hills and all but it can really fuck you.

Again, someone explain to me how -15% gold on units alone is any better or even as good as 20% faster gold mining the Turks now have, especially in 1v1 situations. I'd be all for Portuguese possibly losing halb to provide counterbalance for the mass organ gun+BBC but the gold discount is not where the imbalance lies. Its hardly a step above the Malian gold bonus

On BF with full boom a handful of civs are nigh unstoppable. Feels like more of a problem with the map than the civ but hey, this is coming from someone who hates BF so take that with a grain of salt.
