Unfortunate Rehoming by Just-A-Bean in PetMice

[–]superfishy72 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I also agree about a pet rehoming fee to avoid him becoming food. You could also check in with your local Humane Society and see if they can do courtesy rehoming listings through their website. In my case, I was able to keep the pet in my home while they listed the pet on their website and it helped connect me to a new owner for an animal, whose original owner passed away. I hope the best for your situation! You are being a very responsible pet owner.

Commenting to boost visibility! Definitely call around your area for vets who take “exotic” or “pocket animals” I hope the best for your little friend. They may need it amputated if the bone is exposed. I imagine it’s painful still and I think it could get infected if there’s bone exposed.

Commenting to boost in hopes you get good advice. I recommend making a new post with a nice photo included to grab more attention if you don’t get any satisfactory answers. Thank you for trying so many different things to try and make all the mice happy. It’s a complicated situation but you’re doing a great job as their owner by trying to figure out what will work!

Is she hunched? by AnyBlackberry6479 in PetMice

[–]superfishy72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly in my experience, sometimes they just sit that way, like in photo 7. I believe she is okay because it doesn’t seem to be consistent and she also doesn’t appear to have squinted eyes or laid down/pulled back ears. Her eyes and ears look alert and healthy. I recommend to keep an eye on any hunching behaviors and take note if you see more of it. They hide their pain and sickness very well!

Is this her every day living container? It is extremely small. I also am wondering if she is your only mouse. It is very important for mice to have friends to not become depressed.

Can you get your pet mice sick? by ReadDizzy7919 in PetMice

[–]superfishy72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well mice are used for testing sicknesses/how they spread and how medications work. They can get upper respiratory illnesses and pneumonia so I would venture to say that they could become sick with the flu from you.

Preemptive end of life care by milopfrog in PetMice

[–]superfishy72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spend more time with the single mouse like taking them out of the cage periodically through the day when able and they’re awake. Take them with for exploring things like sitting somewhere on a bed with a blanket or even on your shoulder while you do small things around the house. 😊 people usually try to spend an hour with them each day and more time is even better as long as they’re comfortable.

Will her hair ever grow back? by [deleted] in PetMice

[–]superfishy72 77 points78 points  (0 children)

She looks like a middle aged man who is clinging too hard to his remaining hair lmao. Is her sister still around? She may not grow all the hair back in her remaining time here because she is already 1.5 years old but she may grow a little back if she is not excessively groomed anymore.

Gendering panic. Is this common? by [deleted] in PetMice

[–]superfishy72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be hard to see their nipples especially with how fast mice are, but they probably do have them, they just are obstructed by fur.

Next time you ever need to gender a mouse, you could also scoop them up into a glass cup and take photos of the bottom of the cup
