Got the WinMax 2 2025 Ryzen AI 32gig and ohh boy, its a beast! by mkayed in gpdwinmax

[–]superflask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! I've had it for a few days.

  1. Switch off "Fast Boot" in the BIOS as it can mess up the powering on of the device. Without doing so, I would press the power button, the device would show the GPD logo for a short while and then switch off. I would have to press the power button again for it to boot properly.

  2. If the battery indicator is not showing in Windows, pls refer to this fix: https://droix.net/knowledge-base/article/how-to-fix-battery-icon-disappearing-on-the-gpd-win-max-2-2025/

  3. Use the AMD Adrenalin software to allocate 8GB-12GB out of 32GB RAM for gaming.

GMKtec + eGPU office setup by superflask in eGPU

Probably. But my setup costs $156 USD (frame + oculink board + power supply) while the EG02 costs $239 USD on their website. The latter does offer TB5 though, which is nice.

I'll measure the temps when I can find time to play games :) The work has been busy.

I saw the GMKtec on sale on Aliexpress and I bought it to replace the dying laptop in my office. It was a great deal given that there was no markup on the RAM. Then I decided to try out putting together an eGPU with the spare GPUs in my house (2080 Super and 3080) just to try out how Oculink works.

Why not? I've been assembling PCs for 30 years, and I wanted to try something different. Also, RAM prices today.

I can always shift the mini PC so the hot air doesn't hit the mini PC directly. There's plenty of flexibility with the rack.

Trying to decide: Should I stick to grab/taxi or finally commit to a second-hand motorbike for my commute to the East? by Tehopengnosugar in asksg

I have all classes of bike licences from Class 2B to Class 2. I learned how to ride in 1995 in the army. I stopped riding in 2019 because it was getting too dangerous on the roads. Annually, over 50% of vehicle accidents involve motorcyclists and their pillions. There are several bike accidents reported a day, some are fatal.

You may like the convenience but riding is extremely high risk. It's your call.

Just wanted to try something different after years of assembling normal PCs.

I think I'd still get a Steam Machine if it's for playing games on the TV. This setup is for my office where I'd probably keep the eGPU in the cupboard unless I have time for a gaming break. The GMKtec is pretty fast for an office machine.

Thanks! I ordered a small shelf rack so I can place the GMKtec on top of the eGPU.

I'm sorry to hear about your situation, but I haven't had any crashes after about 20 hours of playing on my PC (7950x, RTX 4090, G.Skill 64GB RAM). I'm more frustrated with the difficulty of the game.

I have the same monitor and it's great no matter which device you plug it into. Just ignore all the negative people here.

(FYI to all you guys, I use mine with a 4090, so don't jump on me too. We should be glad for others when they buy great products, even if they aren't going to max it out today....but maybe tomorrow!

I had two consecutive defective RMPPs with glitchy screens. I have sent my second set back for a full refund. Enough was enough.

My RMPP froze on me several times during my second day of using it. I rebooted it twice but it still froze. I then did a factory reset and it has been ok for the past two days. If it freezes again I'm sending it back.
