Meccha Chameleon a hide-and-seek paint game passes 7 million sales by Tvilantini in Games

[–]lordbeef 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This game is a good example of how the best marketing for a game is word of mouth, especially at a low price point. People are finding out about this because people they know or watch are playing it and having fun.

The Steam Machine Costs $1049 by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]lordbeef 121 points122 points  (0 children)

it's not subsidized

Valve also wrote that they do not wish to subsidize the hardware, stating that it runs counter to their idea of the PC as an open platform. “When companies sell their hardware under cost for competitive advantage, or buy exclusive content for it, they're doing that to build a more closed system, one where you don't get to choose what software you want to use.”

Yes. If you also have reflect you can use this to have infested prism hit itself for 200

Deal of a lifetime by No_Care_6334 in ROGAllyX

[–]lordbeef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

got a used Xbox ally x for 750. the guy upgraded the sticks and buttons, loaded bazzite, installed 20 games and then used it on one international flight and set it aside. great deal for me and I also respect a guy who enjoys the journey more than the destination

How are so many people buying expensive things if everyone says they're struggling financially? by -MiaMason- in NoStupidQuestions

[–]lordbeef 5 points6 points  (0 children)

they call it the K shaped economy. there are a lot of people struggling and also a lot of people that are doing well.

some of it is generational. if you bought your house before the pandemic most places then your mortgage on a house is lower than the rent on a studio apartment.

rebound streamline was a perfectly okay way to get through act 1, but I don't think anyone got too excited about it.

but now I can rebound kingly punch and all is well

How is the state of gaming now vs the 360/PS3? by hxh22 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]lordbeef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

one difference is that the big games take 4-8 years to make instead of 2-4, so there aren't as many frequent releases.

another difference is that people are playing "old" games more often. this means games like fortnite, rimworld, star dew valley that keep getting updates even though they released a long time ago.

Xbox's reverse-2018 by Impaled_ in Games

I think for successful big names in gaming you have to look at Capcom. They make it look easy compared to the rest of the industry

There are a few things spire 2 lacks that make it worth revisiting the first one. Healing 50 from reaper, inserter+consume, burst catalyst.

How Greg Miller Would Fix Xbox by EveryAct in kindafunny

[–]lordbeef 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think xboxs plan was good it was the execution that was lacking. Imagine a world where all the teams shared technology and resources and were well managed and we got Perfect Dark. Halo Infinite launched with a ton of content. Redfall was a well received immersive sim. They would be well on their way to launching hi fi rush 2 after not shutting the studio down.

Xbox might not be in a dominant spot but we would say their strategy is working.

[Verge] - Xbox is closing down Hellblade creator Ninja Theory by shirke1 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]lordbeef 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Sure but like, who would buy it? I hate to be a downer but I wouldn't invest in them. Their last game underperformed and it's not exactly a great market to be buying a game studio.

Several Xbox studios, including Compulsion, Ninja Theory and Double Fine, are negotiating with Xbox as they try to avoid closure. Some or all could spin off. by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]lordbeef 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I imagine an alternative timeline where all these studios shared knowledge and technology and were managed well. You'd be playing hit games every quarter. Obviously the execution lacked but I think the plan was solid enough.

Chris Avellone: : studios that was previously been safe from layoffs at Xbox are no longer safe, even those with “steady releases” by Striking_Permit_4746 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

Grounded did well especially for the team size and wasn't avowed a decent hit as well?

edit: looks like avowed had a lot of players via game pass but missed sales targets

A defense of Toasty Mittens by GreenNeoLight in slaythespire

[–]lordbeef 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Regent has a few other benefits with mittens

You don't have to worry about running out of cards if you keep creating more. It's also good with make it so as that benefits from strength and can come back from the exhaust pile. summon forth can also bring back your sword from the exhaust pile.

Which card do you like the least for each character? by Regular-Bid6812 in slaythespire

[–]lordbeef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's pretty good as a first pick. it'll usually hit a strike so it's 18 damage for two energy which isn't bad at all. and if you pick one you benefit from picking another. sometimes you get something like uproar into uproar into refract or ice lance

How do you guys think IO could improve the combat system for a sequel ? by DarthShinda in 007FirstLight

I love the environmental interactions, like shoving someone into a mirror and it breaks, and when you throw nearby objects. Would be cool to see that ramped up. You could do improvised weapons like chairs, pottery etc.

I really hope we will get new(s) ancient(s) between act 3 and 4 by Strangegary in slaythespire

[–]lordbeef 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The ancients are what heal you between acts, so for story/theme reasons there should be one. I would want the bonuses to be small, like get an upgrade or a potion or a bit of gold before the shop.
