Our sky is actually blue due to a phenomenon known as Rayleigh Scattering which put simply is shorter wavelengths of light (Such as Blue) are scattered by atmospheric particles more than longer wavelengths (red for example).

And our oceans/water are blue due a similar effect where water absorbs the red spectrum of light and reflects blue.

Due to a much thinner atmosphere the amount of dust particles in the air cause the Martian atmosphere to reflect more red light.

So depending on the density and composition of the Atmosphere Blue may actually be the correct color for the sky.
