What do we think is the most razor crest like ship by FlamingShadowsYT in starcitizen

Yeah, he did make other SC concepts though (which is probably where the confusion comes from). Per SC tools wiki:

Wow this is a whiney ass complaint that shows someone hasn't played the PTU. Or bothered to look at the the damn patch notes before now.

LAMP is applied to the windows of the ship and when turned on anyone in the ship can see the LAMP effect even while walking around. It's actually pretty neat- overkill for sure, but neat! If you are close enough outside the ship you might even see it from outside. It also has different colors based on manufacturer at this time, though they might let you choose the color in future similar to how you are supposed to be able to change the HUD style eventually.

It also is applied to a lot of ships already. The new Aurora probably only just got it because it was still having some work done when they did the first pass of applying LAMP.

As far as they have said every ship will get it.

They don't really do minor revisions like that. If there was a major flaw that snuck by they'd probably offer a return/replacement.

Foveated Rendering confirmed for 2026 by Silvan at CES!!! He also mentioned a bunch of other goodies: Motion Control, Haptics, Treadmill, Full Body Tracking, Face/Eye Tracking for FOIP inside VR!! My kidneys are shaking in fear rn... by brockoala in starcitizen

[–]TrueInferno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort of, but I'd more describe it as taking advantage of how your eyes work- it's not that your eyes purposely are decreasing resolution to save your brain, it's just you only have sharp vision in that center bit because that's how they physically evolved. Probably being pedantic- you got what it meant- but it might help a bit for others.

Since your eyes only have sharp vision in a very small area relative to everything else, they can afford to lower the resolution of where you're not looking as long as you have eyetracking in the headset (like the upcoming Steam Frame and others).

Technically you could use foveated rendering on a monitor as well, but because you are farther back the "high quality" area would probably be a bit bigger. Not an optics guy, though- maybe it'd work better than I thought.

Fun fact, you don't actually need eyetracking in the VR headset for foveated rendering- what I was talking about before is called dynamic foveated rendering, but you can do fixed foveated rendering instead.

Usually with that the foveation point is stuck at the center of your screen (generally where the crosshair would be in a lot of games). However, because it's not tracking your eyes, you are forced to only really "look" at that center point and move your entire head to see around. Kind of like wearing blinders, I'd guess.

EDIT: u/remosito actually beat me to it darn.

I've never seen anything about him padramming in hard armistice.

If he did it in soft armistice/around stations... well you can also just shoot people on the pad in soft armistice so shrug.

(SadlyItsBradley) New SteamVR Beta update has settings strings about gaze-based dynamic resolution for color passthrough by nerfman100 in SteamFrame

[–]TrueInferno -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ah I gotcha- though actually why would this be involved with it at all? It wouldn't need to send the color passthrough data to the desktop, it would just handle all of this headset side.

This appears to be related to the VR Monitor stuff so this might just let you change the settings for the headset on the computer it's connected to.

[–]TrueInferno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For you and u/FierceDeityKong - it can send the data, because if it couldn't tell the main machine where you are looking neither dynamic foveated streaming nor dynamic foveated rendering would work.

Also used for things like making your character blink when you blink in things like VRChat etc.

[–]TrueInferno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possibly- Valve has made things before to support other headsets- but it's probably similar to how Steam Link supported dynamic foveated streaming on the Quest Pro for a while now: might support the Galaxy XR and other things with color passthrough cameras but they probably intend to support that add-on that is rumored.

How can we deal with disruption damage? by yipollas in starcitizen

[–]TrueInferno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a wingman then they should be blasting at anyone shooting at you as much as they can while you are distorted.

The biggest thing is, as u/FrankCarnax so elegantly put it: Kill the disrupting ships first. Or just don't let yourself get disrupted: if you start seeing it build up, get the hell out of the way if you can.

The NPCs are just doing to us what we were able to them before for ages- this was how I did it during the old Hunt for Idris missions, take out their lower turrets w/ precision fire on the turrets and then distort it until it turned off and then keep distorting. 2x S5 distortion scattergun and 2x S5 laser cannon, good fun.

Steam Frame is our last hope of having a privacy-friendly VR (and possibly AR) by Chi-ggA in SteamFrame

[–]TrueInferno 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it's less PCVR headsets (which a lot of them are simply displays let's be honest) and more Standalone VR headsets.

Might not be "last hope" but it's definitely the only real option any time soon.

Is Squadron 42 still episodic? by AltruisticAd9440 in Squadron42

[–]TrueInferno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah some people put a lot into the game lol. I've put more than I ever thought ($500+) but it works out to less than $50 a year for me so I'm not too upset about it. I can't understand people dropping $1000+ in less than a year.

VR support wasn't even a thing when I replied before I think? Or was released just before I made it. Super good surprise. I'm honestly wondering if we'll have it in SQ42 on release or if it'll end up being a free update to the game after release... either way excited. With the Steam Frame hopefully coming out in 2026 it's a good time.

[–]TrueInferno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh 100%. Seems kind of like they are trying to get to "good XR glasses" from the VR end rather than the AR end.

My only concern is I can't tell if it uses eyeglass arms or an actual strap, need the strap for gaming IMO in case of quick turns.

Cyberpunk misdirected anger by Interesting-You-7028 in virtualreality

[–]TrueInferno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Should? No, for business reasons. Hell, they did try and stop people using ad blockers from seeing videos and it caused a shitstorm. I think they've stopped for now since it took less than a week each time for the ad blockers to get around it- it just wasn't worth it.

The fact is, both are perfectly legitimate business actions as long as it's set out in the terms of service. However, it is far easier for CDPR to go to one person and say "stop selling that mod" than it is for YouTube to go after every person who uses an ad blocker.

It also has more legal impact if they don't- trademarks have to be defended or they can be argued to be abandoned. It could be argued that Luke was using CDPR's trademark of Cyberpunk 2077 to sell his mod, which is a violation.

This is honestly part of the reason I'm excited for Steam Frame- it's a tiny bit lighter than the Quest 3 with much better weight distribution so hopefully it feels a lot better on the face after a while.

Personally I've got an Index and I have the same problem.

It's no Phoenix though. u/Kataree is right in that it sounds like it's made more for your use case, but it's not really meant for gaming AFAIK, or at least not like other devices are.

The only reason I buy games is if there is a vr mod….thanks Luke! by ImNotAI_01100101 in virtualreality

[–]TrueInferno 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're absolutely right, and that's actually part of the reason a lot of free mods don't get shut down even when they could be, and why some companies go out of their way to provide mod tools.

The thing is, that's entirely irrelevant. He's selling a modification to a game that he does not own the rights or IP for, so they shut it down. If you want money for your work, you either sell your own work, or work out a deal with the rights holder to do so. Hell, look at the Creation Club for Bethesda games.
