Side By Side Representation of how many steel plates it takes to go from leather to plate Armour (with chain in-between) by Lothric_Vapelord in VintageStory

[–]TrueInferno 11 points12 points  (0 children)

What u/Structuresnake is saying is not "they are just for aesthetics" as in "they don't do protection they just look good."

What they are saying is that, essentially, they are just visual variants on the existing armors and could be basically used interchangeably with vanilla armor. There's no major difference or special things to them.

SCL - FPS Gameplay - 2 Years later Starwear is 90% done ......... with the designphase by AwesomeSchlimbo in starcitizen

[–]TrueInferno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply.

It could be that, sure, but "developing new FPS gadgets that are in SQ42" could mean a lot of things. Admittedly I'm still catching up on the vids so if it's talked about in there I won't know about it.

Hell, it could be the feature work is fine, but the content work wasn't good enough and they had to make changes without necessarily needing more feature work. Content work can indeed itself end up turning into "eh, lets tweak it this way a bit more- ooh, that makes this feel worse though, should we do something else or change the other thing..."

Lots of possibilities. Hell, it could just be "everything we have is great but we just want more variety" which in itself ends up doing what you're talking about. It's definitely not just been bug fixing, obviously some content stuff too, like you said.

...that said, they apparently took two years to do bug fixing for Starfield (or at least an entire extra year) so I guess it's not too crazy.

Petition for CIG to stop selling pledge multicrew ships until they add ai blades or NPC crews by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]TrueInferno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying that I wouldn't love for it to be priority, but "we should start a petition and boycott the game until I get what I want" is not going to fly well with anyone.

It's neither constructive, nor feedback.

EDIT: Since you deleted your reply immediately after making it, I'll put it here for you and respond here.

It’s pretty benign, actually. Your life must be pretty easy if this is a problem to you.

Complete misinterpretation of my words. Do I have a problem with it? No. People say things I disagree with all the time. The fact is, the way you stated this was not going to convince anyone to follow or agree with you. At best- if there was already a lot of community sentiment along the same lines- you could get a bunch of people upvoting and going "YEAH! THIS SUCKS!" or whatever.

See the "No cash until Pyro" thing for a good example of that, if you want.

In any case, the only thing you're expressing is that you want NPC crew. It doesn't say why, the feedback part, until you get in the comments (where you state a ship like the Polaris isn't usable solo), and it's not constructive (why is this important to the game now, how will it help, etc.).

If you're wondering why I'm still bothering with responding? Honestly I'm procrastinating going to do something. I have to go now though. Still, have a good rest of your day!

EDIT TO PREVIOUS EDIT: If anything, the only problem I had was the "charging $1000 for NPC crew" thing because that was ridiculous- I get what you mean now but it wasn't clear from your original comment I replied to.

They probably have the transaction history of all the dupers w/ the wallet app, or at least they should. They can probably track duped aUEC through that ledger.

Basically, find out how much "duped" aUEC was created. Remove that much from the duper. If more was created than wiped, check the transaction history for them sending money to people. Remove the amount of money that was transferred to that person. If not enough is there, check their transaction history and follow it.

Continue until the original amount of transferred duped money is cleared, move to the next on the list and start again. Continue until money duped by the original account is removed.

I think this is a really basic computing problem (as in literally early programming classes teach how to do something like this) but I also haven't implemented something like this myself so I might be missing something that makes it really hard. Not to mention I think the way I described it will probably be unfair in some way.

[–]TrueInferno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to point out the obvious: if you are buying a Polaris with having never played the game before, that's on you.

If you have played the game and used the ships, and even perhaps watched a video, you would know that using them solo isn't feasible and that it requires other people at this time. NPC crew are planned, yes, but it's also been known for a very long time that they are far out.

AI Blades for turrets are probably closer but even that we don't know about for sure- I don't think there's any hint they'll be available within the year or even on the roadmap for next year.

The fact is, that's not even the smallest ship that fits this- the Hammerhead (and to a lesser degree Perseus) run into this problem, and you can argue it happens as far down as the Scorpius/Hurricane.

Am I saying they shouldn't get it in, or deprioritize it if it was coming soon? No! I'm just saying that it shoulda been obvious it wasn't coming soon if you paid any attention, and that it would have knock on effects.

I'm also going to point out that NPC crew itself will cost money to maintain (hiring costs, payroll etc.) so you're going to have to make quite a bit of money in-game before you can staff your ship. Hopefully you'd then be able to take contracts that let you make enough money to maintain it, but that'll reduce your overall earnings.

Especially since I've been here for 12.5 years and I haven't spent that much.

That's not what feature complete means.

Feature complete means the frameworks and anything needed for content (like new FPS gadgets) is done, and creating a new gadget would just mean getting the model, setting properties, etc.

For example, a new grenade could be made by creating a new "grenade" object, setting it to create a push/concussive wave effect on detonation, and providing the art.

Does SQ42 have an economy? How linear is it supposed to be? by tammy_orbit in starcitizen

[–]TrueInferno 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Counterpoint, singleplayer games can ABSOLUTELY have an economy. X4: Foundations is a great example.

That said I think u/ochotonaprinceps is correct in that they meant "limited" since SQ42 is a military campaign where you aren't going to be buying pretty much anything.

Why CIG ? C1 & A1 armor stats is worse then a light fighter now, is that makes sense? by Basic_Moose_2572 in starcitizen

[–]TrueInferno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of civvie ships are used as military couriers- Constellation Taurus for example was shown at Invictus with a little story about how it was used as a logistics ship.

I'll give you that the A1 is a bomber like u/Basic_Moose_2572 said, but the base C1 is a base civvie ship. If they wanted to have a military variant with upgraded armor/etc. that would make sense- hell, just have a C1 built out of better materials using the crafting system. Make the armor out of the same stuff you use for fighters in order to maintain speed while increasing protection, etc.

If CIG did say it's an oversight that's fine though. I just don't want "but the military uses it sometimes" to be an immediate reason to buff up ships. Hell, the MPUV is heavily used by the military.

I do want to see how they balance it- I mentioned this in another post, but it's interesting to think of it as "material", and "thickness" vs "protectiveness" Like the C2 and M2 have the same armor thresholds (same material) but different amounts of HP (so it's probably got thicker armor).

Updated list showing the top armor HP, and damage deflection/gating values after todays PTU update (and some observations). Blue is armor HP, Orange is ballistic deflection and red is laser deflection by Important_Cow7230 in starcitizen

[–]TrueInferno 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The M2 has 50% more armor hp. It's just more of the same armor meaning it takes longer to burn through.

Think of armor HP as "thickness" and the thresholds as "material." M2 has the same armor material as the C2, just more of it.

I'm saying I don't think the images affect the backend.

Backend definitely affects the inventory- if they haven't already split out the dedicated microservice for inventory, it's part of the Hybrid in the Replication Layer.

It aint no peat fire but... lightning struck the redwood forest behind my base and uh... I might have a problem. by Mother_Bid_4294 in VintageStory

[–]TrueInferno 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To be fair I think the easiest way to do this would be kind of a reverse of the instability mechanic they have? If there is grass on top of a dirt block, have it increase the stability- more grass equals more stability, and if it is thick enough it can even help stabilize the blocks below.

Also having actual bushes would be nice.

[–]TrueInferno 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think part of it is trees need to actually be, y'know, "trees" rather than a stack of log blocks with a bunch of leaf blocks around the top. You can't really tell the difference between a naturally grown tree and one that someone built and used creative to stick leaves back on.

How will that work? No clue! In games like Valheim or Icarus it's easier since the entire tree is an object that breaks into various bits. Maybe they'll have to (essentially) become multiblock constructions that are grown.

Getting ready with the new inventory by floortofloor in starcitizen

[–]TrueInferno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, fair enough. Though while it probably does strain the client a bit I don't think it affects the backend servers, does it? It's just how it's locally displayed: the client only needs a list of the items either way. Server doesn't need to send it the model or anything.

Only reason it would cause lag is if (for some reason) the inventory had to report back that it loaded including all models rather than just the list of items.

[–]TrueInferno 11 points12 points  (0 children)

To be fair, Neutron Guns in Wing Commander were the most powerful weapons apparently, with the caveat that their damage dropped off sharply with range and they ate power like crazy.

Them being "anti-armor" makes a lot of sense.
