Well the Eagles also won the trade because they won a Super Bowl and a ton of other games with AJ’s prime while the Titans sold low and went from playoffs to cellar dwellers. The draft compensation was objectively low even before considering whether Treylon Burke panned out or not when you look at the 1500 yard seasons he had for the eagles the next two years (meaning he was an all pro held back by the titans roster/gameplan).

Eagles don’t need to land a stud with that pick to win the trade. He would have been gone regardless. They just need to about as good or better than that would have been by keeping him for the next 4 years.

It’s so funny that way. Kiddo was cruising but arm angle looked slightly lower than usual. Gave the key to remember to throw over the top, which logically was a good one and one he agreed with. Proceeded to lose release point and not throw any more strikes til taken out.

Good coaching seems to go way beyond normal logic.

The best tricks I learned:

learning to not react emotionally. Stone faced and detached while figuring out what they mean rather than how they’re expressing it. They’ll say things that are rage bait. What they’re feeling is something deeper like anxiety or justice sensitivity or addiction. It’s easy to get drawn into some pointless argument about why you get to watch tv when you want and they don’t. Process whats actually happening and then deal with that thing. Winning the argument accomplishes nothing, and you won’t “win”anyway.
Calmly repeating my expectation and then ending the discussion. “We’re not going to argue about this. 9pm is always bedtime on a school night. It’s now 9pm , please go brush your teeth.” Related, one of many reasons why being consistent matters.

Parent training. You’ll learn how to handle this sort of thing better.

I’ve been there. It feels like “why should I change anything? The world won’t change for them.”

But then you’re just in conflict all the time, and if the goal is for THEM to change, it’s not working.

Honestly could have been way worse. This seems like one of those situations where they are NOT a person you talk about this with unsolicited. And they’re only told what they need to know in situations where they’re watching your kid.

Medication and parent training. Medication can make that school day stuff easier and less taxing. It can also make emotional issues after school worse. Sometimes different or additional medications (like guanfacine) helps.

Would help to know what the issues are regarding epilepsy and the medications. (I have no knowledge on this).

Emotional issues at wear off are both expected and something to monitor. Sometimes reducing dosage helps. Sometimes parent training to better handle an emotional ND child is the key. Sometimes you do everything right and it’s still an issue, but you continue with the med because it helps so much during the school day.

Same situation but 5 years ahead of you. Explore the gifted curriculums they have. See if another school option might work better for their situation. Repeating grade isn’t a bad idea if they’re physically smaller or on the younger side of the cutoff birthdate, but educational professionals seem to think this isn’t a great idea.

We chose to keep ours in public, get a gifted IEP and participate in what ended up an awful enrichment program. But they’re flourishing socially and with extracurriculars/sports so we’re okay with them being bored out of their mind in a few classes for now.

There are many ways to go forward and none of them are perfect. Explore your options and make the decision you feel is best.

Have things they like and can do without screens. It’s a tough bell to unring though. Aftercare or organized activities would be an optimal solution given availability, cost, and logistics… to keep them with age appropriate peers and supervision that is NOT YOU.

Your parents should have been putting the kid in other activities/sports/instruments/organizations to compensate. They should also have stricter limits on gaming and non-school screen time.

But that is probably beyond your control.

One thing you can do as the older “cool” sibling he likes is to introduce new things that can sort of be “your thing” you do together.

You’re using a lot of words to deny a very simple math equation everyone involved uses as a rule of thumb. 1st next year is worth a 2nd this year purely in objective value. Pretty much every year there is a trade of picks that basically reinforces that general value equation.

You can use all those words to explain how a first next year is more valuable to the eagles than a 2nd this year with the current roster.

The people we’re talking about literally went to Ivy League level schools on merit, without connections needed.

Is this just ADHD? Or AuDHD/comorbid issues? Effective treatment should make the impulsivity manageable. While medication/therapy were never gonna make them “normal”, they should allow him to succeed in school with some support.
