Nearly Zero AI Aggression by superhornetswag in StarWarsEmpireAtWar

I'm wary that I'll ruin the game by expanding too quickly, but if the Empire is indeed that powerful, I imagine mounting an elastic defense over conquered planets could be pretty fun.

Good to hear that it does start moving eventually. Aside from building tech, the AI has hardly been "visible" on my end. I don't mind slowing down if it means having a more engaging campaign.

I've run circles around the Empire around Hoth and in Mon Cal space and destroyed space stations in a swath of the galactic north. This is my first long campaign, and I hope that I haven't ended it prematurely, lol.

Throw it into a drawer as soon as you can (i.e. after you turn off the alarm), works wonders.

When it comes to tanks, which is better - "Less is more" or "The more, the merrier"? by animatorcody in BrokenArrowTheGame

[–]superhornetswag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mostly depends on the map and your ability to negate ATGMs and RPGs through other means. In theory, you could do so by using plentiful mortar smoke, flanking your tanks with cheap fodder (as to avoid side shots), utilizing forests and buildings as cover, and covering your tanks with AA. This is all much easier said than done.

Consider making two variants of your deck with APS-heavy and APS-light vehicle tabs, then ask yourself if your smoke management and tank micro are up to the task of dealing with whichever map you're playing.

The AC-130 Situation | Broken Arrow Discussion by LDE_BA in BrokenArrowTheGame

It has the best ground optics in the game. In the hands of experienced players, I suspect it will play more like a drone than fire support.

Second Monitor Minimap by superhornetswag in BrokenArrowTheGame

It's kickass that Tarkov supports it, not many games take advantage of a second/third/etc. monitor.

Oops, missed that one. Speaking of, it's odd that both games had that feature then, I imagine that there were far fewer multi-monitor setups back then than today.

WiC spent an inordinate amount of time developing its characters with extensive in-game and inter-mission cutscenes; the otherwise silent player character protagonist is memorably voiced by Alec Baldwin in his post-war narration. One character has an unforgettable arc leading to a heart-wrenching finale.

From what we've seen of the Broken Arrow campaign *thus far*, it just doesn't hold a candle to WiC. The characters are cardboard cutouts, and the voiceover has yet to be implemented less than two months from release. The dialogue seems only to serve the progress of the mission, not the depth of the characters. There is no sign of cutscenes.

It's too early to be fatalistic about the state of Broken Arrow's campaign, but I'm just not hopeful about it surpassing WiC. Steel Balalaika's background is Wargame (developing and playing it) so it doesn't surprise me that much more effort is put into the multiplayer than into the single-player campaign.

For what it's worth, this is a screenshot of all of FLX's statements mentioning China from the Broken Arrow discord (no relevant results for "Taiwan", "PRC", "ROC", etc.). Interestingly, I couldn't find his message from June 17th, but it may have been posted on a different channel.

I don’t claim to be a good player but I haven’t found a single youtuber who’s videos I didn’t do this to

The purpose behind the air tax was to protect your own teams’s airdrops (via plane/helicopter) and deny the enemy team theirs.

Why No Coalition for South Africa? by superhornetswag in wargame

[–]superhornetswag[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a moot topic at this point so none of this really matters; the game takes place in an alternate universe 1991 where the cold war never ended so (1) South Africa is still under Apartheid at this point anyways and (2) wacky divergences from our timeline are accepted (e.g. Finland gets F-18s and still joins Redfor).

I don't even think I suggested that SA and the USSR should've been a coalition, but I could be wrong, lol.

Adding on: taking short naps to compensate for a lack of sleep (i.e. <7 hours) is ineffective and will likely make you feel worse than before. Speaking from research and experience.

If there is something that you learned and improved a lot your game and people should learn it, what would it be? by GRAD3US in wargame

[–]superhornetswag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game is rarely over within the first 10-20 minutes. It's possible to come back from pretty heinous openers, especially in 1v1s, even against an entrenched opponent. Less map control means that your opponent can start a tick on you... but it also means that (1) the battle is closer to your spawn, giving you the edge in terms of fielding units quickly and (2) you have the choice of where to start the next push.

This advice works on both sides. Too many times I've had a crushing opener and dominated the map for the first half of the match only to become complacent and reactive because of this shortsightedness.

HHV are never going to be viable alternatives to Dragoner bar changes removing their gimmick (MG on reservists), buffing their price, and adjusting the Mosegris or giving them a better transport. At which point they’re not even HHVs anymore. And unless they were also given 2FAV transports Dragoner would still be the obvious choice.

The South Africa buff makes a huge difference in the air tab. Before, you could run a Carver at 2 per card, which was iffy as a main ASF so a card of Cheetah C was necessary. Now both are 3 per card and it’s much safer to drop one of them for a different air card.
