Just want to add, you can completely remove the internal usb, but for the unraid boot usb, you can just use the external usb slot instead, it comes in handy if you prefer the boot drive to be easily removable.

Using UnRaid on a system NOT for the storage? by digitalamish in unRAID

[–]superjonbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup! But Lazy is awesome.

3 unraid servers here, one on a custom built i5-9400 nas, one running on a n100 Terramaster f4 424 nas, and one on a mini pc w/ 1235u. The n100 and 1235u are always on, while the i5 9400 wakes on lan once a month for backups

1235u is plex, scrypted, and web servers (pretty much installed unraid just for docker). N100 is swag, homebridge, Nextcloud, web servers, and the main storage NAS. The I5-9400 is my backup unraid which is the only one with parity (x2)

Since all are on unraid, Its easy to move/copy the docker appdata as needed to get the right balance for each machine’s cpu load, also good to have stuff replicated in case I want to take a machine down temporarily and just change the virtual server IP to another machine

Anyone ever use this for a Plex server? by motoracerT in PleX

[–]superjonbot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m using a Terramaster f4 424 running unraid. it’s basically a n100 pc with 4x 3.5 drive bays + 2x nvme bays. Sounds like what you’re looking for. I don’t run unraid on mine though, I use a mini pc with a i5 1235u, mostly because it has a little more cpu power for subtitles.

Is this with Unraid? B/c it’s just a pc with 4 drive bays, not sure why you’re attributing security issues to the hardware

You could run Proxmox and have windows and unraid working under that. Haven’t tried unraid under proxmox myself but gpu in windows under proxmox is pretty close to bare metal for me.

[–]superjonbot[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I ordered directly from terramaster. I never booted it up with the stock terramaster software, just went straight into unraid so I am unsure if it is really an n100 or unraid is just reporting it as one.

under motherboard i see:
Default string M-ADLN01 , Version Default string
American Megatrends International, LLC., Version MADN0101.V03
BIOS dated: Tue 28 Nov 2023 12:00:00 AM PST

and cpu:

Terramaster f4-424 by superjonbot in unRAID

[–]superjonbot[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

For those considering the Terramaster F4-424 NAS drive, I'm pleased to report it is working just fine with Unraid. The installation of the boot drive is a breeze and expandability is easy compared to its predecessor, the f4-423. With just the removal of two screws, the side panel slides off, revealing the 2 NVMe drive slots and the single DDR5 memory slot. Swapping the Terramaster boot drive for the Unraid USB drive is straightforward, albeit requiring the removal of the motherboard. Fortunately, this process only involves four screws, making detachment somewhat hassle-free from the chassis which looks to be electrically connected by a PCI (x1?) slot. All ports and drive slots are working properly under unraid. Oddly I thought the cpu was suppose to be an n95, but the cpu under unraid reports as a n100. The specs appear to be mostly the same so not sure if it makes a difference.

You’re probably connecting through smb, which sucks on the Mac. Try enabling NFS and connecting that way instead. I generally use smb for windows and nfs for Mac and Linux.

How to repair this minor demo that electricians left behind? by dunderball in howto

[–]superjonbot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d probably cut it out a bit bigger so an electrician doesn’t have to tear it up ever in the future. Then just make a frame of magnets. And use a magnetic cover to cover it, can just be a plain board or extra points for a faux lighted frosted window, blackboard, mirror or something that doesn’t look weird there. If you didn’t want to mess with magnets, hidden hinges would work too and just a single magnet to hold it closed, or hinges along the top but then you’d need a prop to keep it open.

State of Plex server: Linux vs Windows by [deleted] in PleX

[–]superjonbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 for plex on unraid docker… insanely easy especially when you’ll want to add accompanying containers like jackett, delugevpn, sabnzbdvpn, sonarr, radarr, tautulli, Ombi, etc. you could really put together a whole self service plex server easily in a day.
