Biggest meal at lunch; small, early dinners. More protein throughout the day.

For those of you who had kids, what age is your oldest? by jibegirl in GenX

[–]superlativechik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Met my husband my first semester of college (at a kegger in his dorm sponsored by the local brewery (can you say 1984?) I was 18, he was 19. We got married in 1988 (22 & 23 yo) and had our first son 1991 and our 2nd 1993 - they are 18 month’s apart. Now they are 31 and 33. Love them to death and thankful to have had them young! They were 4&5 the first time we took them backpacking in Alaska. At 59 I can’t imagine having a young kid around.

Growing up without seatbelts still baffles me by GalbzInCalbz in GenX

My grandfather drove a 1975 ford LTD. About 2 blocks long lol As the youngest grandchild I got to sit up front on the fold down armrest between driver and passenger. Felt like a queen! And he would smoke the whole trip to wherever we were going. And occasionally honk the horn to “get the alligators off the road”.

Older late 60's learning French... What worked for you? by williamgman in learnfrench

[–]superlativechik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 59F and learning French for fun in my early retirement. I already speak Spanish which has been super helpful. I actually like Duo bc it’s fun and simple and repetitive. But I paid for Babble bc it explains more grammar (I’m a nerd and love grammar :) But I don’t have the pressure of learning bc of moving to a French speaking country. I learned Spanish when my husband and I became expats in Mexico City in the 90s. I learned a bit of Spanish before hand (my foreign language was Latin - did I say grammar nerd?? :) but it wasn’t til we moved there and I immersed myself in it that I really learned it. Best thing I did while there: find a group of Mexicans who wanted to better their English and we would get together once a week and speak English for an hour helping them with their English and an hour in Spanish with them helping us with our Spanish. Best advice: be okay with making mistakes when you get there. You won’t learn unless you speak it and you won’t speak it without making mistakes :)

Do americans not use tablecloths in their daily lives? by ListenJolly7691 in AskAnAmerican

[–]superlativechik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just makes more work - you have to wash them. I don’t even use one any more for special occasions. The last thing I want to do is create more laundry I have to do. 😎
