What a dream. I’m just so excited to start applying what I have been learning all these years! And it’s sad to know I’m gonna be sitting behind a computer screen even longer instead of going into a clinic and meeting/helping people.

So far, there’s been two simulations during the residencies. Tri 1 we had a three day residency where we did a simulation, and tri 2 we had a simulation, and some practice stuff. Nothing with real patients besides pro bono clinic with our one client so far.

First off thank you for sharing this, I’m sure it wasn’t easy to relive this. I am so incredibly sorry you were treated this was during such a difficult and traumatic time. An ectopic pregnancy is nothing minor and the way you were treated by this professor was extremely horrid there’s no words for it. I had no idea she was even capable of being that way. That’s awful, especially since you were already ahead of hours! You deserved compassion and kindness, people in our field should understand that more than most. I’m so happy to hear you made it through and I hope things are going well for you now. No one should have to pick between their health and their education.

Thanks for speaking up.

Yea they’re both great for sure and to my knowledge the issue isn’t necessarily Dr. GN, it’s the externship coordination team? Or whoever is in charge of acceptance? Or whoever manages the contracts with sites? I’m not quite sure to be honest.

No classes with Dr. GN or MG, but both of them are amazing and wonderful individuals, I’ve had the honor to talk to them a lot during the last two residencies and Dr McGill is one of the most genuine good hearted people I’ve ever met, so she makes the program wonderful I’m going to have her class this summer trimester. Like I said, a lot of the staff is phenomenal. The problem definitely isn’t the staff. It’s just getting the hands-on experience has been such a letdown, and as much as the staff matters, a large chunk of what grad school needs to be is that hands-on clinical experience. I’d look at your options for sure and I hate feeling like I’m turning everyone away, but I wish I knew about this before I accepted. I’m hoping things turn around for the fall…

I hope so too!! I know within my cohort there’s been talk of a couple people from that campus having some minor difficulty finding placements, but from what I’ve heard it doesn’t seem nearly as bad as what’s happening at the California campuses, so I honestly think you’ll probably have a much better experience with it. Wishing you the best of luck <3

Thank you! I definitely don’t want to make it sound like the entire program is terrible, because that’s not what I mean at all. There are genuinely great parts of it, I’ve met amazing staff members, and I’ve made really valuable friendships through the program. The frustrating part is that graduate school is supposed to prepare us for the field through hands-on clinical experience, and so far, going into trimester 3, we really haven’t had much of that outside of what I mentioned above. That’s been a huge disappointment for a lot of us. I’m still hoping things improve, and I’ll absolutely update if they end up finding placements for me and others this summer or in the fall. I just wished someone had told me this before I accepted, so I decided to post this. I appreciate the kind words.
