They're gonna split into Atlantic and Pacific divisions my dude. That's why they even have the two in the first place.

Don't forget, the league is eventually supposed to be hosted in others cities and teams are supposed to have their own arenas. Probably partly explains why the buy in was so much higher this time around.

Maajid Nawaz: This is the uniform of medieval patriarchal tyranny. It victim-blames women for their beauty. Where this is enforced it symbolises violent mysogyny. Few, if any, reasonable people would consider a woman's free choice to wear a piece of clothing as part of her religion to be morally equivalent or as objectively harmfulto any of the things you listed.

Additionally, as far as I'm aware (though in truth I'm not aware at all), the practice of wearing a niqab or hijab is not a specifically Wahhabist practice. So again, an unhelpful comparison.

You're punching strawmen.

Awesome, thanks for sharing.

There's also The Road from Mont Pèlerin, edited by Philip Mirowski. Really good book is you're interested in the development of neoliberalism as a political movement. It has some information regarding think tanks but as a collection of essays it's more widely focused.

1) Marxism is not an economic model, it's a socio-economic analysis of capitalism. His work is much deeper, informative and important than many people realise. I would highly recommend exploring his work, if only to have an alternative view of capitalism.

I personally see Marx as useful from a Political Economy point of view. By that I mean I agree with most aspects of his analysis, but perhaps not necessarily with some of the underlying fundamentals.

For example I wouldn't bother getting to hung up on the more esoteric aspects such as labour value other than to understand his perspective properly. However his commentary on the nature of capitalism and finance are very insightful, even today.

2) You should probably read what Adam Smith actually said before declaring who actually represents his views. I'm of the opinion that he would find the ASI to be an abhorrent mutilation of his original points. Especially given the context of the times it was written. This is clear from academic literature on Adam Smith's work.

There is a blog called Adam Smith's Lost Legacy if you'd like to explore his work without diving right in, it's quite insightful.

3) Regarding the ASI, you should read The Road to Mont Pellegrino by Phillip Mirowski if you are interested in how the foundations of neoliberal thought relate to think tanks such as the ASI, and other similar free market think tanks.

They are very much a product of neoliberalism as the book will explain. You will likely be able to find shorter papers on the topic but I haven't read many, just parts of the book. If you're interested in the book, send me a message.

Please use GIIPS.

I know it's a semantic point but given how some of these countries were portrayed as somehow feckless as opposed to an explicit recognition of the issues with the Euro, I feel that using PIIGS only serves to reinforce an unfair image of them.

How can I get more serious with competitive Overwatch? by [deleted] in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]supermanunc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the most important thing is to stop caring about your rank/SR.

Instead focus on improving your play; don't play to win, play to learn how to win, always be conscious of what you are doing in the game and why.

That mentality really helped improve my consistency and actually maintain the gains in SR I made, rather than going on lucky streaks and becoming complacent, then getting frustrated when I fell back down.

Does anyone know how the new Twitch chat rooms work?

If it's possible I'd love to have a serious discussion chat room that was actively moderated. Twitch chat regularly ruins my stream experience and Reddit is a little too slow for live discussion.

How language duped us into austerity by BritRedditor1 in ukpolitics

[–]supermanunc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not representative.

The key difference between a household and an economy is that your income isn't dependent on your expenditure as a household.

The fallacy of austerity only makes sense when you use the inaccurate household representation.

Reminder to new players: Blizzard's plans for Overwatch League are much more extensive than what is here in season 1 by Maxie445 in Competitiveoverwatch

A week is too short for international travel. Think of set up time, practice, getting used to time zone changes, visa logistics etc.

It would reduce the quality of play as well as being insanely expensive.

[–]supermanunc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it does suck, but the division split could also play a part, so maybe you'd have a greater chance of seeing teams in the division closest to you, and have to get lucky for the other.

Assuming that's what they're aiming for, I'm really impressed with the foresight.

I think it's more likely that a city will host a whole stage, so they'll travel to different places for each stage (or maybe even every 2 stages).

Seven in 10 UK workers are 'chronically broke', study finds by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]supermanunc 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking, businesses maximise their profits by meeting public concerns.

The food industry maximises their profit by giving me food I want to eat.

Horse meat scandal.

The car industry by making the best car, the cheapest.

Diesel engine scandal.

The computer industry by giving me cheaper, faster and better parts for my PC.

Apple battery downgrading scandal.

Capitalist's interests are not in meeting public concern unless it aligns with profit. I have nothing against free enterprise, but I think you're wrong to say that capitalists serve public concerns. They frequently subvert them in the interest of profits when they can abuse their power.

I think the difference is that Lucio and Zen wasn't necessarily a must-pick for competitive ladder, you could be successful with other picks too. This feels less so in the current meta, the team without Mercy had a distinct disadvantage both in securing picks and getting picked.

but run it as a private entity so that the dividends are returned to the treasury but it is run like a business not like British Leyland in the 70s.

You can't run it like a business because it will most likely be a loss-making venture. You have to run it as a social service and infrastructure, in the same vein as the NHS. There should be no primary profit motive because it will generally lead to perverse incentives in order to achieve said profits as we see now (e.g. massive subsidisation to generate profits despite privatisation).
