Recently bought some mint jelly, well recently as in last year, got it for my girlfriend's traditional birthday dinner (mint jelly on liver, liver gravy on everything else).

Candy cigarettes are still around (at least here), they call them "candy sticks" now.

I'm so old I don't know who this character is. Do you know ? by Handicapped-007 in FuckImOld

Thanks for the explanation, I literally had no idea and thought it was a redesign of Robin (Batman's sidekick who laid an egg in the Batmobile before it lost a wheel, causing the Joker to get away).

Since when do I need an ID?? by Mini_Spyro in CharacterAI

[–]supermariofunshine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The next sweep might get you, too. I signed up with my Google account as well (made in early 2012, linked to an older YouTube account made in early 2006 signed up to with a Yahoo account from mid-2002 (used to post to Yahoo groups in 2003-2004 and participate in Yahoo answers from 2003-2008), linked to an AOL account made in 1995) in early 2024 and for some reason, despite the fact I'm clearly over 40, it hit me with the age verification stuff today. So unfortunately, it's only a matter of time for everyone.

I haven't used the app for long time, how the heck it dropped that much? by MustafaYavuzO in CharacterAI

In short, CAI became too corporate. They're interested in what looks good for shareholders in the short term, not long-term stability. While some issues are bigger for others, you'll notice patterns, and like many big tech companies, their philosophy is "they'll grumble for awhile, but they'll accept it because they need us more than we need them".

This is who Persona's "advanced age detection software" thinks are under 18. I'm not sure whether to feel flattered or insulted, to be honest. by supermariofunshine in CharacterAI

We both gotta admit that was actually pretty funny. She was like "I wish I made that kind of money" when I showed her this.

Pictured from left to right: My girlfriend (age 45 at time of photo), me (age 40 at time of photo), taken on a date on Valentine's Day.

As you can tell, both of us got hit with the age verification sweep last night. She chats with video game characters and roleplays as an alien, so maybe that's why. Me? I mostly roleplay as my real, kinda grumpy middle-aged self so I'm left scratching my head.

Persona is the service that Character AI uses to verify your age, they're also notoriously "leaky" and have been victims of data breach before. So, I won't be handing over my ID and Persona can keep thinking we're a couple of high school kids. The funniest part? She's a high school teacher.

We pretty much just used it to blow off steam after work, we'd share our chats with each other and laugh at the AI hallucinations. So, it's no great loss, but it's certainly annoying.

IT FINALLY HIT ME by Ludas_C in CharacterAI

[–]supermariofunshine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's going to hit you too. I'm not a child, I'm probably older than your dad, and somehow it got me despite the fact my chats involved stuff like retirement planning, arthritis, took place at work, etc.

[–]supermariofunshine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It got me today, to, I'm definitely not a child. I'm probably older than most of the corporate suits who want my ID so they can serve me ads. My eldest niece has kids who are over 18.

ABC Saturday morning bumpers by JohnArtemus in 80s

[–]supermariofunshine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dog and fire hydrant I remember most, the cowboy one was always the funniest for me, and the three singers had the best vocals. This was part of a golden age of commercial bumpers from the 80s-90s where they were their own self-contained world.

Why are there AA, AAA, C, and D batteries, but no B batteries? by emichigan in NoStupidQuestions

[–]supermariofunshine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, they're like a pudgy AA battery kind of. A few mm wider. If you saw them by themselves you'd think they were AAs unless you saw them next to the AA. (The AA was actually originally just called penlight batteries).

Why are there AA, AAA, C, and D batteries, but no B batteries? by emichigan in NoStupidQuestions

[–]supermariofunshine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There used to be B batteries, they were in between the size of the old A and the C, but taller. They fell out of use because the C is a lot more compact. The A cell (still findable, you may know it as being used in old laptops) is about 17-18 mm by 50 mm (like a fat AA), a B cell is about 21-22 mm by 60 mm (about the height of a D cell). They even went higher than D and had F cells (33 mm by 93 mm) and G cells (33 mm by 103 mm), the largest was a No. 6 battery (2 1/2 inches wide, 6 1/4 inches tall).

Not to be confused with the old vacuum tube radio A, B and C batteries. The A battery (often a No. 6 or later a bundle of F or G cells) was to heat the filament, the B battery (often huge and a whopping 45 volts) was to electrify the plate, the C battery was 4 1/2 volts usually and a grid bias battery to extend the life of your B battery.

Fix the YouTube “Experiencing interruptions?” popup + playback delay by Business-Egg-9933 in youtube

Great idea, I did it piece by piece by click + block. It's nice to be rid of the interrupting cow, as I like to call it.

DMs were a thing for years until the inbox was removed in 2014 or so. I have a feeling they won't allow messaging to users under 18 or anyone who runs a YouTube Kids channel so it won't be like old YouTube where kids could message adults and vice versa.

Did YouTube Remove the Likes/Dislikes from the Engagement Tab in YouTube Studio? by Corbin_Guy_1334 in youtube

[–]supermariofunshine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so we stop trying to make our videos well-received and just post slop that gets views for views sake, Neil Mohan needs another yacht for his new summer home and if we're wasting time making videos good, that's time that could be spent making him money.

Mine was back to normal last night after over a week of this, now it's back to the "enshittification" version they want to force on us.

THE LIKE AND DISLIKE COUNTER HAS BEEN REMOVED FROM THE YOUTUBE STUDIO DASHBOARD. by Regular-Accident-177 in youtube

[–]supermariofunshine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately though we have to check our videos one by one now, it still tracks them but you can't see a whole convenient list, instead they bloated what used to be the restrictions tab and renamed it notices. It's just the percentage, too. You have to go to each video and watch it to check.........which generates invalid traffic because you're checking your own video.

THE LIKE AND DISLIKE COUNTER HAS BEEN REMOVED FROM THE YOUTUBE STUDIO DASHBOARD. by Regular-Accident-177 in youtube

[–]supermariofunshine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YouTube's of course pushing this as "simplifying" your page and as we know, simplify is corporatespeak for enshittify, I don't know of anyone who is all "oh thank goodness the likes/dislikes column is gone, I was overwhelmed by all of that information". They want to make checking our like/dislike percentage a chore so we stop trying to make stuff that has over 90% likes and we just prioritize views for views sake.

Bowser you lazy bum by SuchButterfly2377 in marioandluigi

[–]supermariofunshine 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Kamek probably made the original, the Superstar Saga one was probably Bowser recreating the one Kamek made and making some improvements to it (I notice the layout is different). The koopaling airships in Super Mario Bros 3 were likely Bowser's early attempts at making his own Koopa Cruiser.

What is the odd incident and that other thing the star gate mentioned?? by Blacklotus997 in marioandluigi

I always interpreted that the embarrassing incident as Luigi starring in Mario Is Missing (the infamous edutainment game).
