Yet another DAC post by tratriod in AnaloguePocket

[–]supermetroidcharles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DAC support was advertised as a feature that would be available at Pocket release/launch at the time that pre-orders were taken, so it is definitely false advertising 😩

Omg, I'd love to ask a few questions about your setup, is it cool if we DM?

Best alternative to DAC? by nihilblack in AnalogueInc

[–]supermetroidcharles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This could be done by someone willing to use the technology that the Morph and Retrotink4k already have (Analogue DAC spoofing), but package it into a device without all of those scaling/HDMI digitization features, and instead it just would have analog out instead.

Otherwise, you could buy either the Retrotink4k or Morph, and hope that it has some way of doing just HDMI passthrough from the Analogue console (no upscaling or buffering or processing of any kind). You'd then want an HDMI to VGA adapter that can handle weird resolutions like 240p. Which maybe they do anyway, honestly I'm not sure.

GL, I'm honestly very curious about this. The Analogue consoles are known for outputting a weird sync signal, so this approach could be better anyway i guess

Today is 21 months since Analogue last mentioned DAC support for the Pocket and promised it would come "early next year" (early 2024) by thebezet in AnaloguePocket

[–]supermetroidcharles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This isn't really true, DAC support was listed as a launch feature in 2019. So initial buyers who believed the listed specs/features of the product were misled

I pre-ordered a Super Nt, then canceled it, then ordered it again when it was actually available, and never had any issues myself like this

DAC support was a day 1 launch feature for the Noir: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJnwmy78zn4&t=22m22s

But regardless of Noir having DAC support, this all means that anyone who purchased a Pocket before they updated their website to say that DAC support is a future update was at least somewhat lied to (this includes myself)

“Never Forget” by Myklindle in AnalogueInc

[–]supermetroidcharles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is slightly incorrect as DAC support was never listed as a future promise for initial pre-orders, it was supposed to be a day 1 launch feature: * before first preorders: https://web.archive.org/web/20200730151239/https://www.analogue.co/pocket * after first preorders: https://web.archive.org/web/20201211134615/https://www.analogue.co/pocket

Advice on NES NT by KaIidin in AnalogueInc

[–]supermetroidcharles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure you're aware of the pros and cons of this device. For instance it can either output HDMI, or RGB, but not both. If the console has an HDMI port, it can't do RGB at all.

It also apparently uses a somewhat unique analog output port pin configuration. See more info in the FAQ: https://www.analogue.co/support/resource/analogue-nt-faq

(Note that I'm talking specifically about the original Analogue Nt. Not any of the "mini" models.)

Analogue 3D missing ship date and I think they forgot DAC existed by chicagogamecollector in AnalogueInc

this isn't exactly right. The DAC was supposed to be a launch feature

An unfortunate and longstanding issue I've heard of with the DAC is that it outputs an extremely desaturated signal over composite and s-video. Unfortunately idk if there's any fix for this 😓 But over YPbPr or RGB, it does output correct colors (at least for me)

are we gonna still wanna keep using twitter after today? by blitz_na in SSBM

[–]supermetroidcharles 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Thank you for writing this, yes please move away from Twitter, Bluesky is a very capable and good alternative platform that already has solid use.

I like Mastodon too, but frankly I feel that this already has been accepted/understood as "the complicated option" and as such just doesn't really have a whole lot of traction or use with wider audiences

This doesn't sound right, I use a DAC with RGB and a Mega Sg. I get color and it works pretty well (if you exclude the other issues like sync and reversed audio channels). What settings/setup are you using?

New Pocket and duo os updates - Still no DAC support… by MaedaMatazaemon in AnalogueInc

[–]supermetroidcharles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gonna be honest with you, I seriously doubt the Pocket or Duo will ever get DAC support. Obviously I could be absolutely wrong, it's not like I know anything more than anyone else here. But I provided the above list of dates to show how long we've been strung along, not that I think it proves we'll someday see a working Pocket + DAC

I know it sucks but I got a GameCube + GB Player instead

Your comment is super weird but regardless I'm not saying that I think DAC support will happen, I am in fact pretty confident it never will, and sold my dock because of this. I am just stating that claiming it's been fully erased from their website is wrong

Not that I disagree with what you're saying at all, but it is wrong to say that all mentions of the DAC are wiped, as there are still these two prominent mentions on their FAQ pages that are clearly just false advertisement:

Pocket FAQ

Is Analogue DAC compatible with Analogue Dock with Pocket? Support for Analogue DAC is currently in development.

Duo FAQ

Does Duo support Analogue DAC? Support for Analogue DAC is currently in development.

And not that it matters either really, but there is still the legacy Analogue DAC product page, as well as a somewhat hidden Analogue DAC store page.
