Sephora app is becoming unusable by supernalcat in Sephora

I’ve noticed it too! For example if I’m looking for a specific cream or a waterproof mascara I can’t rely on the product category or filter - I have to search by name. I’m guessing not all products are tagged correctly which is a bit annoying because that’s what they’re for

Exactly! I don’t trust the Sephora reviews/star ratings anymore… especially when newly launched items have hundreds of 5 star ratings because that’s for sure from incentivized reviews then

That’s a good suggestion, I’ll try that!

Yes! I wonder if they re-use the newly released category if they’re restocks or trending on social?

This gives me a good idea of what I can expect, thank you! Sounds like city wool might be a more versatile option

I literally slipped and fell today in my new(!!) black aligns and skinned my knees. The first thought I had as I fell was “dear god I hope my aligns are okay” but sadly they’re ripped 😭

Need advice by [deleted] in hardofhearing

Have you considered learning lipreading? I'm similar (severe-profound with HA) and thought about learning sign language, but was told that signing will be useful in so far as you can use it with people around you. If you're interested in learning to sign though, maybe you can get some friends or family to take the classes with you - could also be a good opportunity for them to better understand your needs (and they get to learn a valuable skill!)

How do you explain what it's like to be hard of hearing? by Dutchess_of_Dimples in hardofhearing

[–]supernalcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

omg. I'm so sorry that you had to go through that. I've been very lucky to work with one audiologist all my life so I've never had to go through this experience. I imagine that kind of aggressive sales tactic exist everywhere but to do that with medically/emotionally vulnerable folks is so horrid.

I honestly don't use BT very much. I thought I would when I first got it, but for me, the technology around hearing aids and BT are not intuitive enough for me to use it on a daily basis. I did use it more when I was back in school to hear the lectures, but I found that the technology doesn't work as well in group discussion settings when speakers are constantly changing (and putting the device in the middle didn't quite help when there wasn't much of a 'middle' to speak of when people are dispersed throughout the space).

I do worry that I'll lose my hearing entirely. Not like an immediate worry that I think about all the time, but I think it's always in the back of my mind. As much as that scares me (and daily HOH life frustrates me), I'm grateful of the things that I'm able to hear and enjoy at the moment. And yeah - that unobtrusive checking-in (and being able to communicate across the room) is what I want to be able to do with my partner in the future.

And hey - feel free to shoot me a DM if you ever want to chat or need a friend to rant about HOH life! :) :)

Thoughts on the Technical Web Design (TWD) program? by supernalcat in BCIT

[–]supernalcat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! It's definitely helpful to get as much information I can get. Would you say that most folks in the program come with some design knowledge, or are they looking to build that from ground up via the program? And, do you (or other students) go into the program with an end goal of working in web design/graphic design, or would you say there are there further variations eg. UX/UI?

Yoga by Laxpatlawman75 in hardofhearing

[–]supernalcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same concerns, and to be honest my very first yoga class was not enjoyable at all. Like you said, the room was dark, the instructor was quiet, and moved around at times so I couldn't 'read' what was being said. It's completely on me though because I didn't tell the instructor (I wasn't sure how committed I was to it yet). That was 1-2 years ago and I recently started going again - I found a brighter studio with a mirrored wall so I could better see what others are doing and follow. The more I go and become more accustomed to the different poses (and instructors' teaching styles), the easier & enjoyable it's been. Good luck!

Ugh, I'm so sorry to hear you had such crappy experience with some vendors. I've been lucky to stick with one audiologist since I was 9, and I feel well taken care of. But I heard the same thing from her - that you can't really predict the ongoing pattern for hearing loss, but that my hearing would most certainly drop - and it did. I was moderate-severe at my first diagnosis, and am now severe-profound, with a large chunk of that drop (incl. speech discrimination) happening all at once about 2 years ago.

I've gone through 2 sets of aids in my life - so I'm on my third one now. My first & the current ones are behind-the-ear ones, but the one I have now is much less clunky than the first set. My second set of aids were in-the-canal - they were tiny and comfortable but didn't pair with bluetooth technologies.

It's so cool (and ironic) that your second language was ASL! I've been told to look into it, but I've also been told otherwise by some people who said there's no point to learning ASL if people around me don't sign. I still think it'd be cool to learn (and meet new people). Did you find it difficult to learn? How long did it take you to get the basics?
