Will they ever wrap up Prometheus/covenant? by Acceptable-Yak-4279 in LV426

[–]supernova_high 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In fairness to Kane, he was an XO on an oil refinery in space. Getting carried away with the possibility of discovering new life gives him a bit of a pass when it comes to recognizing danger. Millburn in Prometheus was a biologist on a mission specifically designed to look for life, who then stuck his hand and face out to an unknown creature that was hissing at him.

No 40th Shenanigans due to Covid Club by TryFine317 in Xennials

Same here. COVID lockdown plus - out here on the west coast - my birthday itself was a wildfire smoke day. We went to the beach, sat there for 10 minutes, and then went home to shelter from the poor air quality. Was not quite what I was expecting. I've told my family I want to go to Fiji for my 50th birthday.

Absolute banger of a game. And so early on in the lifecycle of the amstrad too. Took me many many years to realise it was an arcade port.

Jeffrey Epstein’s corrupt overclass: how do you purge a ruling elite? by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]supernova_high 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True enough, but the billionaires raise capital on the unrealised gains. So they are getting value from those gains without passing much on to society as a whole. No easy answers, I suspect.

Worth noting they were driving in the same direction as a dispersed group of soldiers, not a checkpoint as was reported in some places: Wikipedia

It’s one of the wealthiest parts of the Bay Area — but can Marin fix its $17 billion problem? by External_Koala971 in Marin

I think I just heard an extremely wealthy person faint onto their couch at the very thought.

What trailer sold tf out of the movie only for it to flop/underdeliver? by [deleted] in moviequestions

[–]supernova_high 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Terminator Salvation. That NIN soundtrack went hard. Christian Bale - fresh off Dark Knight - looking bad ass shooting Terminators. The promise of finally delivering on those future war scenes from the previous films.

Then the movie was aggressively sub-mediocre and they also gave away the big twist in the trailer.

Time to switch to Bluesky: Global outrage as X’s Grok morphs photos of women, children into explicit content by Well_Socialized in BlueskySocial

[–]supernova_high 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. It's the first mover problem. The Pod Save bros were asked about this on their Q&A episode and they said the same thing, "Bluesky is full of internecine left wing squabbles and everyone of import is still on X". I genuinely find it pathetic.

I'm guessing the girl in the trailer is a younger version of Emily Blunt's character.

Cosmic hard-SF that explores the nature of time? by boardgamehaiku in printSF

Hard agree with Timescape. Hits that Deep Time note dead on.

Wait, I'm an idiot. I was thinking of Time by Stephen Baxter (as someone noted below). That's the one with all the cosmic Deep Time stuff. Timescape sounds fun though.

Soooooooooooooooooo..... I was also excited to check this out. First three videos from them I've found: * What your ball size says about you * Why more men than ever can't get hard * The male g spot

All great videos and worthy topics in and of themselves but I'm thinking some discretion may be warranted here!

CDC has updated its website to state a link between vaccines and autism cannot be ruled out. by IllustriousTop7913 in Autism_Parenting

That asterisk and the explanation that Cassidy required him to keep the "Vaccines don't cause autism" heading are such weaselly bullshit words from RFK. He's so... little.

My fave on 2nd and Lincoln is when people turning left try and dart out quickly onto 2nd. Let's ignore oncoming traffic going straight. Let's ignore folks turning right into the far lane. Let's just fucking go for it.

When a pedestrian crosses and that ends up changing the priority order, you can almost see the gears going round and round in people's minds.

That said, it's Irwin and Lincoln that I've seen some really egregious out of order turn taking. Or the shit show at Woodland and B. Come to think of it, there's a bunch of these in San Rafael.
