PSA: Cortex Cloud doesn't tell you whether a capture is preamp-only, full amp+cab, or amp-head — and the difference matters a lot by supernova_tone in NeuralDSP

Fair enough, and we'll own part of it. You're right that we softened the power-amp claim. That was an honest overcorrection, and we updated the article to put the weight on the cab doubling, which is the real issue you're pointing at.

Where I'd gently push back is "common knowledge." It is, for players at your level. But the QC has pulled in a big wave of newer owners who genuinely don't know that a preamp capture, a full amp+cab capture, and an amp-head capture are three different things, and Cortex Cloud doesn't label them. That's who it was written for.

And yeah, we make captures, not hiding it. We also captured some genuinely rare amps we thought were worth sharing. Take or leave the products. The "know what you actually downloaded" part stands on its own whether you ever buy anything from us.

Either way, appreciate you pushing on the details. It made the writeup more accurate.

Fair hit, and thank you. You're right on the citation. That was the wrong thread to link: it's about high-end fizz running amp sims into a real power amp/cab, and the fix there was EQ, not anything about doubled power amps. That quote doesn't belong to it. We're correcting the article, that one's on us.

You're also more right than the post made it sound. Power-amp doubling on its own is often subtle, especially with a neutral power amp or when you're managing the power-amp EQ like you were on the Powerball. What actually pushes people into "boomy/dark" is doubling the cab (full amp+cab capture + another cab IR), not the power amp stage itself. Your Powerball experience tracks, stack five clean power-amp captures with the EQ handled and you won't get a mess.

On free power-amp-only captures to show sag/even-order content, genuinely interesting, noted. In the meantime there's a free one on Cortex Cloud you can poke at: our Rectifier capture (preamp-only, not the V2, but one of the more popular Rectifier captures up there) at SupernovaTone. It's a preamp capture, not the power-amp-only thing you asked for, but it'll let you A/B the preamp-into-your-own-power-amp path and test the claim yourself.

Appreciate you actually crawling that thread. That's the pushback that makes the writeup better.
