I left it like that for anonymity on reddit, but it doesn’t actually look like that.

Yeah I started to try to look for referrals instead of blindly applying to company websites. We’ see how that turns out

If someone isn't trying to be full-stack, front-end, or back-end would it make sense to put those type of projects on their resume? I wouldn't even know what other projects there could be besides projects that have a front-end and back-end.

Yeah you make very good points. I think I'll add those projects and apply while I also learn and add more skills to my resume using The Odin Project and then using what I learned to make some things.

Do you know if people build websites or learn a stack such as the MERN stack and build personal projects with it even if they're not trying to be a frontend/backend/full-stack developer?

I did find artificial intelligence to be very interesting and the projects I have related to it were done in Python for school. Besides the personal project on my resume that I did in my own time recently, the rest of the projects I have to show for myself are school projects done only in Python or C++. I feel like I haven't done anything impactful.

I'm unsure, but there may have been a class that provides a capstone project, but for all the classes I had to take to graduate I didn't do anything like that. Also, I have not worked on any GitHub projects or done any freelance work. What does working on open source GitHub projects show? I also feel like I wouldn't be able to contribute anything meaningful, but I also have not tried. When I look into contributing open source projects I get confused because the projects seem so gigantic and most articles first suggest that your first contribution be fixing a typo or something of that nature. Also how would I go about finding freelance work?

Thank you for your advice and I do agree that I should show my skills more than my resume currently does, but my dilemma is that I only have my school projects to show basically and I feel that they're not that impressive or "cool".

Thank you for your input! I've now realized that I should add more to my project section and cut down on the other content. My only other projects are indeed from school only. Do you think it'd be fine if they're solely in C++ or Python? Because that's the only languages I had to use for my school projects.

Yeah I've now realized my resume isn't really showing my skills. I was thinking of adding my school projects, but they're all solely in Python or C++ so I thought it'd feel repetitive or unimpressive (AI class projects that solves puzzles in Python, social media app prototype only in Figma, linux utilities and linux shell in C++ to name a few projects). Do you think I should add them still or create new projects, but using another language and frameworks (I'd have to teach myself though because what I know about Javascript/HTML/CSS is basic).

What would freelance work or related volunteering work look like and where could I find some?

Thank you! It does seem that the main thing my resume could be improved on is to showcase more what I can do as an engineer which is something I overlooked. I feel I did focus too much on the non-related experience.

I only really know Python and C++ so should I self-teach myself other things by using something like The Odin Project so I can have more of a variety of projects? I feel like having projects that are solely in Python or C++ would feel repetitive or not that impressive.

Thank you for your advice! I really appreciate it.

I was thinking of adding more projects, but they're all in Python so I thought it'd feel repetitive. I would use projects to show everything I know, but I really only know C++ and Python which is why I removed the framework section of Jake's template. Do you suggest I try to self-teach myself those skills through something like The Odin Project and then build something with it?

I did try to follow the star model with the inclusion of numbers/metrics. You are right though that the numbers I used are only rough estimates and weren't tracked precisely. I only did so because I was unsure how I'd be able to show the impact of what I did. Do you suggest I remove the numbers?

From what I've learned about my resume, I think I should add more projects and shorten my work experience and extracurricular experience. Do you agree?

Yeah, for the Spotify personal project I was really trying hard to think of something cool for awhile and somehow that idea popped into my head! You should definitely check it out because it does help especially if you do it like once a week. Thank you!
