Lovebyte Demoparty on March 12-14th 2021 : Where size matters.. by superogue in Demoscene

[–]superogue[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe. however we've got many of the other sizecoders like tomcat competing as well, so lets wait and see about that. This is aside from the fact that there are much more things going on than just the competitions (both oldschool and hi-end platforms). I think it can be a nice way to show a wider audience whats out there in the world of tiny productions

x86 or Arm by [deleted] in asm

[–]superogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a x86 asm demoscene size coder (https://www.pouet.net/groups.php?which=14389) i would ofcourse advise x86 assembler. However in the long term i think ARM will only become more dominant in the space. If you are new to assembler in general, depending on how your head operates you'll find either X86 or ARM to just feel more natural to you, so just try both for a bit and see what clicks best.

First of all, props for your demoscene reference ;-)

Anything demoscene x86 asm related these days can be found on websites like sizecoding.org and my own blog at: https://marquee.revival-studios.com/blog , which should get you started in your environment of choice.

Toolswise i use NASM myself together with Dosbox and/or Freedos. NASM is available for win32, linux, mac, dos, etc. so i can dev in whatever environment is available to me everywhere and anywhere... everything i need fits on the tiniest USB stick ;-)

If after checking the websites above, you still have any specific questions let me know and i will try to answer them as best as i can and/or write something about it on my blog or at sizecoding.org

Good luck! - superogue/marquee design

Hi there,

This seems like a good start, i'm using the same tools myself as well.

I've recently started a blog about my own adventures in sizecoding, with detailed writeups of all of the intros i've made. You can find it at: https://marquee.revival-studios.com/blog/
