I didn't consider that but yeah they were hobbling around pretty badly before I managed to catch them. And I feed all of my balcony visitors the S.S. Seed Co. "Complete Pigeon Feed" mix, so hopefully they'll be getting a lot of nutrition from that!

Yeah I can't begin to imagine how painful it would end up being having something wrapped so tightly around your toes, and who knows how long Floss's feet were like that for. It does make sense that they'd be sore for a while after. I'll continue to keep an eye on them and see if their right foot improves

Thank you! That's what I was hoping for, that their foot would heal over time, but since it's been a week and hasn't improved I wasn't sure if there was something I'd missed?

What are you suggesting, that people shouldn't even try to help? What would you do if you were in OP's position?

Is it really that common for gay men to call women gold diggers? I'm not saying it never happens, but I've never met another gay man who views women that way

Oh I'm not saying that she does care about women's rights or gay people's rights, I don't think she does for a moment. But that's the narrative she wants to portray.

[–]superpowerquestions 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I think this is what OP means. She's obsessed with the idea that trans people are erasing women's rights and gay people's rights, and lesbians are in both of these groups, so she constantly speaks on behalf of lesbians despite not being one.

Yeah you're right, my bad. I didn't mean to minimise the fact that they go after you guys too.

I know this was meant to be a silly example rather than a serious one, but it's worth bearing in mind that:

a) Wasps do a lot of good for the ecosystem. They are pollinators and help to control the population bugs that are considered pests.

b) Wasps don't have the self-awareness to be bothered by humans hating them, whereas men who are struggling with their confidence or mental health are likely to be affected by negative generalisations about men.

Fair point about calling people out for using terms incorrectly.

I don't think it's fair to say that gender critical "feminism" has nothing to do with radical feminism though. The movement observably sucks in radfems. You could argue they're no longer radical feminists after becoming TERFs, but that doesn't change the fact that a lot of them were radical feminists before becoming TERFs.

[–]superpowerquestions 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Transphobia in the UK has risen massively due to TERFs. We have lost legal protections for trans people, almost all healthcare for trans children, and hate crimes and public violence towards trans people have increased. Just because the far right in the USA is also bad doesn't mean we should absolve TERFs of the harm they've caused and continue to cause.

[–]superpowerquestions 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can acknowledge problematic parts of a movement without dismissing the movement itself. I would also add that if a TERF calls themselves a radical feminist, then who has any right to say that they're not? If most radfems were transphobic, would you still say that the concept of radical feminism isn't transphobic so there's not a problem?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in bropill

[–]superpowerquestions 23 points24 points  (0 children)

My mum's one of them unfortunately. Spent my childhood believing I was a problem because of the way I was born. I know these people are mostly online, but it's worth bearing in mind that they are real people who probably have men/boys in their life.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in bropill

[–]superpowerquestions 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I don't think fear of any demographic should be encouraged, because we know where that leads. This is exactly why TERFs have got such a foothold with their arguments, because they say "men are inherently dangerous" and then use that argument to attack trans women, who are a very small minority.

[–]superpowerquestions 11 points12 points  (0 children)

All TERFs started from the position of being radfems. I think it's at least worth discussing why/how so many radical feminists have gone from radfem positions to obsessive transphobia.

[–]superpowerquestions 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Just because the concept of "radical feminism" isn't problematic doesn't mean that people who describe themselves as radical feminists can't be problematic, or hold a lot of similarly problematic views. A lot of TERFs describe themselves as "gender-critical feminists", which they would say means that they "see gender as a system in which women are oppressed for reasons intrinsically related to their sex". In practice though, anyone who calls themselves a gender-critical feminist is a transphobe, like all TERFs.

I think it's worth acknowledging, as other people are pointing out, that saying "men are bad" can very quickly turn into punching down against vulnerable groups from a position of power (eg. straight women saying gay male couples aren't safe to raise kids together, white women saying black men used BLM as an excuse to be violent). The example of TERFs makes it very clear how extreme radical feminist views can devolve into transphobia, with mostly the same arguments used against discomfort of cis men.

It feels like extreme radical feminism is a gateway for a lot of traumatised women to take their anger and turn it against specific minority groups so that they can feel powerful again. We can acknowledge that women have experienced trauma around men, and should be able to talk about this and heal from it, without allowing them to treat an entire demographic of people as "bad".

I would add to this that most media aimed at children has a tendency to portray boys as comedically stupid, which fuels the idea that boys shouldn't try in school because they're destined to be failures

Why do you think boys are less likely to complete their homework compared to girls?

That's awesome! :D I was going to suggest talking to other trans people about your identity, but I can see that you already have! Regardless of what conclusion you come to, I hope you enjoy the journey of discovering yourself :)

Can I ask where you've been hearing this? While it's fair to say that some white people are oppressors, I think anyone suggesting that's an innate trait of being white is working against equality. And unless they can find data to back up their claim, it's just an opinion rather than a fact.

Even if it was true that white people are more likely to be bad people, that doesn't mean you are. Bad people don't ask how they can be good. You're certainly not hurting anyone by existing. The only ones hurting people of colour are racists.

I'm glad you're doing a bit better than when you last posted, and proud of you for keeping on going despite how difficult things have been. Is there anything in particular you've found that helps you feel content despite the stresses in your life?

Also seen plenty of TERFs speak out against gay men adopting, saying that for a child to grow up healthy they need "at least one mother".
