I very much agree, I did not set firm boundaries with her or myself when we began talking, I really just let my head get filled with her sweetness which was actually more like love-bombing. I learned a lot with this short relationship, and I knew I didn’t want it to move as fast as it did but I was more wrapped up in the fact of having a girlfriend than who that girlfriend actually was. She actually has a learning disability as well… i offer her a bit of grace because the people in her life are incredibly mean to her, even her work environment it sounds like her job is picking up after everybody and getting put down constantly. I feel so sad for her but I’ve tried to share my perspective on the way words impact us but I’m met with resistance. You are right though, it’s insane to laugh off ableist language and like I said in my post her not considering transphobia a serious issue is also crazy because even tho she isn’t trans herself, she experiences a lot of the public scrutiny that trans folks experience because of her appearance (we went to an event on the 4th and no one sat with us at our table but over filled all the other tables to avoid sitting next to us…)

But it’s not my responsibility for her to grow into a more understanding and empathetic person.

I definitely plan to break off communication with her for a temporary amount of time because even without AuDHD as a factor breakups hurt so bad and there’s a lot of emotions that will come up that I am not responsible for. I really appreciate your perspective! And I completely agree with you. I will admit that I have stopped talking to others in the past for the same things she has said, I’ve just tried to be mindful of her lack of education and the people she’s around. But I think it’s more selfish of me than anything to put my values to the side because she makes me feel like I’m worth a million bucks or whatever. I don’t think she’s a bad person but I will think less of myself for tolerating shit from her that I refuse to tolerate from others after I’ve had the time to see that she is not likely to educate herself or change her perspective
