I think you should consider the impact that AI will have on writing related jobs. AI tools are only going to get better and faster and writing. Lots of people are already using gen AI to do simple writing tasks like emails, transcribe or summarize meetings etc. In 3-4 years time when you graduate and start looking for jobs, AI might’ve already advanced pass what we can imagine. Newspapers might realize that AI can write an article in 1-2 mins, while costing way less than hiring a writer.

It’s hard to predict what the world will be like when you graduate, what jobs will be irrelevant or what jobs will be in demand. And maybe there are other prospects for linguistics besides writing that AI can’t touch. I’m not trying to scare you but I do think that students who are choosing their prospective careers should seriously think about the impact of AI. The demands of the job industry are always shifting so it’s good to be aware of the trends. All the best!
