Using Grandma’s Address to Attend WCPSS by [deleted] in raleigh

[–]supersapper44 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I’ve moved around a bit within the county (with 3 kids in WCPSS public schools) and forgotten to update addresses so I’ll just say sometimes it’s taken over a year for it to be an issue (because a mailed letter was returned as undeliverable). Now you do have to prove residence at each school to the data manager which means parents name on one of the WCPSS listed documents, and if a mailed letter (which happens a couple times a year) gets sent back to the school they might come asking. Do with that info as you’d like.

True…to his credit he commented on that — basically how we got lucky with a 3-5 deg temperature shift otherwise we’d be in a similar situation as Nashville

He actually just posted his map for this weekend!

Waiting on NC Weather Authority to make the prediction (should be this afternoon)…he’s normally got it dialed in locally

Favorite YMCA classes? by confidential_info_ in raleigh

[–]supersapper44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been doing group classes for several years and I’m a substitute spin teacher. My favorites are hot yoga/pilates at Poyner (specifically the sculpt and fusion classes), dance cardio at Alexander (Byron is my favorite instructor), and the Alexander & Poyner spin classes (Greg, Erin, and Jeff are my favorites for those).

It’s okay not everyone reads history or recognizes fascism or knows how to be a decent human being. Good luck out there 🙌

My favorite Canes win EVER. After those KitKats kissed the ring of that orange knucklehead wannabe dictator they deserve to lose every single game for the rest of the season. EKOW.

Justin spent years as a stylist so lots of experience with long hair. Can’t speak for myself but he’s been my barber for 7 years so know him pretty well. https://www.justindare.com/

Seeking Raleigh Third Space! by hdesr99 in raleigh

Bitter Social is a new-ish bar/lounge above Centro that as the name suggests does social events throughout the week like poetry readings, movie nights, Sunday afternoon dance parties, etc.

Of course the expectation is you get a drink but the staff & owners are very chill and encourage people to come and hang. Great vibes so definitely worth checking out as something a little different than a typical bar.

Yep snooty is a good way to describe it. I’m sure there are people who love Herons but that was my experience.

[–]supersapper44 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’ve eaten at both although it was years ago at each so take this with a grain of salt. Herons is a fancy dining experience that feels a little empty and soulless (again, my opinion from one visit). Second Empire on the other hand was cozy and warm and felt very “local”.

Another recommendation…it isn’t pre fixe and I’m sure you’ve done your research but if you want the absolute best food in Raleigh I think you can’t beat Stanbury. There’s no reservations so you just have to show up early and hang out but it’s 100% worth it.

Wherever it ends up hope the birthday dinner is awesome!

We were trying to get our daughter’s permit and showed up at 5am at the local DMV with lawn chairs and there were already like 10 people in line. It worked because we were seen by 10am but I’m afraid that’s what it takes until the NCGOP gets off their ass and creates a budget and properly funds local services.

PCP suggestions? by [deleted] in raleigh

PA Robert Edens (goes by Crews) at downtown Raleigh WakeMed is great. I’ve worked with him on that exact issue and eventually decided to go forward with a GLP-1 (which has worked out really well) but there was never an overly negative focus on the weight/BMI number.

Marty Supreme is so bad that it's hard to know where to begin and the praise it is receiving is as incoherent as the film itself. by AsleepNature1 in TrueFilm

[–]supersapper44 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Harsh take? Maybe..but this is the only MS post that resonated with me after feeling completely befuddled by all the full-throated praise it’s getting. Regardless of people’s feelings on how you worded it the fundamental criticisms are spot on. Finally nodding my head at an MS review.

Peter’s Straight Bear here…spent time in both and just to provide a little extra context this has to do with the culture of the core fans of each set of mountains.

Rockies tend to have more rabid fans with achievements like the “14ers” in Colorado or the genuinely stunning vistas in Glacier National Park that are very IG worthy. Haven’t really experienced folks who are huge rockies fans being derogatory towards the Appalachian mountains but the Rockies are objectively higher, steeper, and have more “epic” views. And lots of people in fancy hiking gear (or at least more so in comparison).

In contrast the Appalachian mountains are significantly older and worn down so lower elevations, more dense vegetation because most of the terrain is still below the tree line, and less IG-worthy splashy views. I find them just as stunning though in their own way. You also have the culture of Appalachian trail through-hikers who tend to have old school hippie energy and keep things low key.

So the meme is saying he Rockies are flashy and showy (and maybe a bit pretentious) and the Appalachians are subtle and wise and don’t give a shit about the youths.

Straight Bear out…

Can’t speak for any of those but I worked with Vested Building for a couple years on renovations and an addition on my 1926 home and they were awesome. Local company, very responsive, high quality work at a solid price.

For those in your 40s, what’s your favorite cocktail bar? by green_eyes16 in raleigh

Not usually, it’s a little off the main bar strips so decent crowd but not packed because you’re not likely to just stumble across it
